OMFG Thank you so much for posting this. My parents have been paranoid of me traveling alone to China for days now and didn't know how the procedure was going to be like.
Only the Immigration department in China can tell you what will happen. However, based on my experience seen in the video, and what I read in the papers there, only passengers in rows near a person with a fever are subject to quarantine. For example, if someone in the second level of a 747 had a fever, it's not likely that Economy passengers in the rear of the aircraft were exposed. The two cabin areas are well separated.
So is it a thermal imaging gun that takes a quick scan of the amount of infared radiation (which directly correlates to body temperature) emmiting from your head?
hey, i am leaving for china may 28th and landing in pudong on the 29th. i am wondering is the government quarantining like everybody from america? thanks
I returned to the USA yesterday May 23. Here's what I read in English language papers there: 1) China may require a 7-day itinerary for all visitors, this helps tracking you down if you have been exposed on the plane. 2) A Hong Kong resident caught the virus on a plane from a someone passing through Beijing to Australia.
Expect your temperature to be taken at each border crossing. I saw staff with IR cameras checked people as they arrived in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau by train and ferry, for example.
Get a surgical mask to wear on the plane. Yes, it looks stupid. Yes, it's hot (at first). A mask is not fool proof -- you take it off to eat, for example. But it reduces your chance of exposure/infection. You may still be quarantined if someone nearby is infected -- that decision is entirely up to immigration officials, based on how close you are to someone with a fever/symptoms.
Surgical masks were much more prevalent in Hong Kong than in Macau, Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen during my trip. Nearly every public service worker wore a mask. I noticed that every Hong Kong Burger King worker had a mask on.
thank you so much! that really helped, cause my family is like going nuts about the 7 day quaratine period cause we are only going home for 22 days, so 7 days wasted is alot. so, if anyone on the plane got the virus, everyone on the plane will be quaratined, even if we don't show any symptoms and our temperatures are fine?

At minimum, have your hotel address and phone number handy for the health form.

For the return trip, stores in the Hong Kong airport were selling masks for HK$5 (US$0.75) each, or three for HK$10 (US$1.50)
