I love a few scenes later when Mav and Goose explain how the hell they witnessed a MiG28 do this negative 4G dive by flying inverted and flipping its pilot the bird and took a picture of the pilot's look in disbelief with 1.5 meters between them! Ice (Val Kilmer) coughed while saying "Bullshit" and the physcist Charlie (Kelly McGillis) was just in disbelief at the two smiling arrogant son of a bitches who proved they did it in the first scene. That was hilarious!
Are they F-20's? I can't really tell due to low quality (and the small amount of time the video actually shows the Mig) but it looks a fair amount like an L39 as well.
Not as gay however as discussing jets on a top gun youtube video, "Ohhhh and its got radar and it's really fast", "Oooooh thats really interesting TheGroundedAviator will you fuck my ass now please" <--- read in voice of big gay al
@TecDiver05 wrong not F-20s but F-5 tigers F-20 has 1 engine and only. this are F-5s if you look at them they are pretty much the same but u can see that the basic difference is that f-5 has 2 engines n f-20 has 1 basic engine ! and a lot of inside n electrionic upgrades .
With the coming introduction of the F-35, the navy will begin to start phasing out the F/A-18 hornets. They will keep the F/A-18 Super Hornets in the fleet as they are just going through their mid-life upgrades now (Boeing).
@Irafos1 The F-35 is shit. Low payload capacity (Unless you mount weapons on underwing hard-points, which would defeat the point of having a stealth aircraft), WAY to expensive, and it only has a range of 1400 nmi (For the F-35C). This is more than the Super Hornet, but dosn't touch the 1600 nmi range of the Tomcat. But, nobody gives a shit about the good-old big fighter anymore..... even though it can outfight just about anything.
@FutureMarine1775USA Only modest speed and radar as well, ok it's nimble but not able to get where it may be needed in time. Sides how many fighter pilots are going too fly a fighter that makes them almost inviceable? I know the US military is all 'beat-em up' but some guys find the idea of killing others without them being able too fight back as even more reprehensable and discusting, not that war and killing already is.
@HaloReachMcfarlane F-15s are on the way out. They're not retired yet, but mostly fly ground support missions. If you want a plane used for dogfighting you'll have far better prospects with the F-22 or the F-35.

@HaloReachMcfarlane small problem, the F-14 was retired a few years ago. There's still the F/A-18 Hornet, or you might get to fly an F-22 or F-35. Look up a video I saw a year or two back, an F-35 does its vertical take-off, but then the fan lifting the nose cuts out. The pilot uses the F-35's thrust vectoring to do a mid-air sommersault just a few feet above the ground, then lights the afterburner and shoots off as soon as the plane has the ideal angle of attack.
I love that scene. The tactic is horribly unorthodox, but it gets the message across; "You are not a welcome guest here. Now scram before we blow you to smithereens!"
What the navy really needs are more cowboys like "Maverick" & "Goose" in the fleet. Wars would be over faster because the enemy will see that our pilots are crazy & they won't have the guts to even go near a plane.
I have strong intentions to join as a mechanic. My Uncle, a WWII veteren who was also in the Air Force, inspired me to do so. He was a fighter pilot, but I don't think I can fly, not with glasses anyway :(
@HaloReachMcfarlane Actually these pilots are in the Navy. I hope you become a fighter pilot. The U.S. needs pilots with your enthusiasm, whether it is Navy or Air Force.

I don't think a lot of people realize that those Mig-28's are actually F-20 Tigersharks.

@HaloReachMcfarlane Sorry but the F-14 has been officially retired from the fleet. It's the F-18 that you would fly.
