Really nice stuff. I like the on the fly biz, along with the loops.
I've been making a lot of music with this pup since fall 2010. I don't have much posted but would love it if you checked out my channel for past works and upcoming stuff.
I bought one and love it! I really love playing my guitar, but for sheer mindless entertainment and experimentation, it's a lot of fun. I bought mine at Swing City Music in Collinsville.
Some tips with a Kaossilator: Holding down Scale and pressing Loop quickly returns you to the program selector from any menu.
Also, if you set to program d.84 and tap anywhere along the top, and wait, you get a rising feedback. To stop it just tap anywhere else or change the program.
well, lets talk about the Kaossillator shall we.This wee synth is pretty cool and does take some mastering.I got one and it makes a very cool sequencer for mixing and at a very affordable price (unless you're a street beggar of course)
I learned piano and was able to compose a song with 4 strings and drumset on Finale Songwriter. Yah I fleshed out some of the phrases on a piano, but the medium shouldn't matter.
Real musicians used to be dudes beating two sticks, then a skin-stretched drum, strings, ringing metal, whistling on bits of wood, then blowing raspberries in metal tubes. Long as you can make a sound you like, nobody can corner the market on a 'real musician.' The trick is getting others to hear what's inside you.
I'm mostly a bassist, however, I'm not close-minded like you. That's not "being a hippie," it's
knowing that sometimes you have to go out of the box to get that perfect sound.
And the "at least three note chord" is bogus.
That's like saying maracas are not an instrument. Sure they might produce a certain pitch, but you can't be like.. "Hmm, I'm going to play an Am15 with this." So is it a fake now?
If you want to jam so in jazz seriously dude I see a jazz bass in my band and he jams with the drums and him alone after class everyday it seems like he gets into it
@Prof3ssrBrando Yeah it's not true. What exactly is a "real musician" anyway? Just because a type of instrument is new doesn't mean it isn't a "real instrument".
you keep call me names like you're 12. I'll let it slide cuz you're just one of thou's guys that duz'nt post any videos and just runs his mouth. I'll buy you one of these thing if you call me narrow minded to my face. it would be the last time you'd put your foot in your mouth. you must have little to lose.
Um, no, I'm not twelve. Your spelling suggests that you are indeed the one of little age, especially since you now threaten me. As for all of your classes, that has NOTHING to do with music. We've been talking about music and how you're being judgmental about instruments, placing your own rules and not allowing experimentation. Honestly, if you have actually taken anything science related, you'll know experiments are a necessity in new discoveries. Stop placing walls on music.
Plus I teach an astrology class to 6th. graders. a masters in quantum mechanics and am in my 2nd year of med school. I must be the bawdiest narrow minded person in the world.
And dude, there are PLENTY of musicians who would willing knock you into place because of your "Synthesizer" not an instrument statement. Have you any idea how many incredible pianists play synthesizers? That statement alone makes your opinion pointless in this conversation. Music is meant to be expanded up, broken, reformed, and changed constantly to express the players emotions just like any form of art... Sometimes the smartest people fail to grasp the simplest concept.
Let's agree to disagree. when a cop pulls you over and asks " is there any weapons in the car" its a trick question, anything can be used as a weapon, but is a cigarette lighter really a weapon? no its a cigarette lighter. people are entitled to there own opinions.
What, did you get your "Masters" from ITT tech? Did some homeless guy on the street hand you your diploma? I find it very difficult to believe that a person with the credentials you claim would take themself seriously enough to troll the shit out of a youtube comments section. And why the hell would you brag about teaching astrology/mythology? It sounds like an easy bullshit class.
Exactly, there is no proof to judge so why would you even try to claim to be tight? Your online persona doesn't match it so all you are doing is calling your credibility further into question. Second, "closed lips"? You've been vomiting on this comment section more than any one other person.
Yes this is definitely awesome. But don't be sad about your microKORG. I have one of those as well, and although it's not all fancy and touch screen, it still can make some pretty awesome sound.
This kaossilator is awesome though. Very awesome.

No Matt Uses A Korg Kaoss Pad Kp2 It's A Little Different, I Mean It Can Make The Percussion And What Not, It's In His Guitar You Know. Look It Up, It's A Little Different Than This, His Is All Under The Top Of this Guitar, He Had It All Built In For Him And The Touch Screen Is What He Uses For The Sounds Of The Strings And The Scratchy Noises.
I am going to buy the Kaossilator, and I have question: does Mini KP can be used as synthesizer too? I mean, do Mini KP has got the functions of Kaossilator.
Kaossilator is fun and easy to use, but the track pad is small which makes it difficult to create musical lines with repeatable accuracy. It's good for creating ambient noise on a track, but if you're the type of producer that wants to play specific lines that are somewhat complicated, this is not your instrument. In fact, I would say it's not the main tool of a professional, more like a cool accessory. Best bet is to go to a music store and test one out with headphones before buying.
you could totally get a decent phrase , and record it and loop it- def have to agree that creating somthing repeatable would be difficult with this alone though..still nifty and id smile if i got one as a gift .
You can't eliminate a specific layer of the loop on the kaossilator itself (except for the most recent sound recorded). The only way to do that would be to make each beat it's own track on whatever program you're using on your computer to record with, and then arranging/deleting them in that program. I like to do that anyway so that I can use it in conjunction with other things
can you save a song into it? or after rebooting you loose your composition? and also, can you save a new /modified sound preset? thx for your answers.
no. i just got mine and you can't save any of your tracks or upload any other sounds. when you reboot everything is reset, scale, bpm, key, all of it. but its really fun to play around with. definetly not professional tho
cuz they are only so useful, and more aimed at people who like to do live performance or build tracks via live takes.. for certain producers they can be petty restrictive/not very useful
I'm thinking of buying one of these. I understand you can record different synth and effects and loop them. But .. can you save any songs or beats that create using the Kaossilator. Or do you need a program
As far as I know you cant save anything on it, it wud be mainly used for remixing or producing on the fly. To save what you create you'd have to record your whole sequence through Garageband/Pro-Tools etc and then edit it down to the bits you like and maybe create loops from that. Its a shame cos its a brilliant piece of equipment..still gonna buy one anyway. Never ever be bored again if owned one of these!

@karlwashere123
What? You didn't really answer my question..
Synthesizers are a legit instrument and to say
otherwise is pretty dumb. A lot of awesome keyboardists use synths... A LOT.
And this here.. IS an instrument.
And instrument can be a $5 piano for little kids
that makes that "ping" sound when you hit the tiny key.
THAT is an instrument, I've seen Sigur Ros use one during there song to make a melody line.
Anything that potentially creates a good tone is an instrument...

A spoon?
I didn't say everything was meant to be a solo
instrument, did I? No, I didn't. Instead I said
everything has the potential of being an instrument.
Actually, you can use a spoon.
I think I've seen people use them to
create percussive sounds. I think it
was incorporated in a tap dance.
You are just narrow-minded, honestly.

I would really like to get this little instrument.
I know a lot of people claim it's not for "real musicians" but I have a feeling such isn't the case.
I play strings and keys (mostly bass and guitar)
and know a decent amount of theory, but
I feel with the Kaossilator I could really take
a break from pure theory and really just jam
out without thought.
Not that I'm bashing the work needed to go
into electronic music, just that I feel I won't
have to process as much with the Kaossilator.
