  • Hell yeah!

  • great version....back from when they would play LIVE and not use a backing track...lol...thanks for sharing!

  • sounds like "Mary" by the supergrass.

  • i was a member of their fan club in japan

    very thanks

  • hugh mcdowell is insane XD...LOL he jumps around with his cello...love ELO.

  • i love bev. he's my favorite drummer XD

and do I need to say anything about 10538... hahaha, I'M 10538!!!!!!!!!

yeah, you heard me. I'm 10538. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

did you catch her face, was it 10538?

    love that song forever.

    ESCAPE!!!!

  • That Les Paul./... it gave him Back problems.. weighed as much as your sister..

  • bev was one of the best. and a hard-working promo man, too!

  • @sweetbrowneyedlady--I do agree, this man really has the"mmmm-factor " and there is no mistaking that!!!!!

  • @sweetbrowneyedlady--I really understand!!!!!!!

  • I love Kelly's vocals here. And he still had that strong voice as he got older. What a loss. At least watching him at 0:01-0:20 will always make me smile.

In our hearts forever, RIP Kelly.

  • Kelly was a great person, and he really tried to entertain his fans. He was an amazing man, and is missed for very much.

  • This is a really cool version. This is the only one I've ever seen/heard where Kelly Groucutt sings the lead. Very good. I like how they segue into Do Ya, too. Guess Jeff didn't decide to add cellos to it till much later. This sounds a lot like the Move version.

  • Sorry, Jeff. Stick to playing guitar and singing. Bev's the only true drummer in ELO.

  • Sorry, Jeff. Your drumming never compares to Bev's.

  • Kelly Groucutt, just great and became amazing with age. best bassist in the world,

as ELO is the best band in the world

  • Loving Melvyn and Bev in this clip !

  • Bev was spot on in this performance as was the rest of the band.. One of the best live clips I've seen!

  • hahaha Hugh is crazy...nothing shy 3:31

  • The two Cellists bring lots of fun to the band!!

    I admire their good mood

I play violin,so Mik Kaminski is an especial idol for me

But I think that Hugh becomes the biggest star of the stage! He has a strong presence.

I usually watch Roll over Beethoven from the DVD Out of the blue everyday and have fun with Mel and Hugh

  • My frinds gave this album fo my birthday. I think I was 16 at the time. Great stuff ELO was classic and the w the best. Bettrthanthe Beatles. And I grew up with the Beatles.

  • Weller ripped this off

  • I own this album and 10 other ELO albums

  • The cellos MAKE ELO!! I LOVE them!

  • 10538 made me take these guys seriously, as it were, and John himself called them the "son of the Beatles", which is some kind of praise, no matter how faint.

  • This was the song that caught my interest when they came out. It's pure Beatles, (as John mentioned once in passing), but it's still jolly good fun, yes?

  • @chiefashley56 ... a lot of people have said the beatles would have sounded a lot like ELO had they stayed together ...who knows really .... but I would put Jeff Lynne just a notch below John and Paul for greatest singer / songwriters ever ... and we know that George loved Jeff Lynne

  • sounds like changeman by paul weller..

  • @marcus8768 that's because paul weller sampled it for that song.

  • Will be 49 next week.

This is one of the best live Vid's I have ever seen.

And yes, it was special back in the day,,,,,,,,,,

  • who is that guy singing lead on 10538 ...

  • @sweetfly66 kelly groucut

  • If you don't believe in fate, listen to Jeff and Kelly trading off on vocals. They were meant to be in a band together and we are the better for it!

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce -absolutely right.

  • DEf LEPPARD do a NICE version of this tune-THIS REALLY ROCK'S!! GO BOSTON RED SOX

  • @dodsie9 .... red sox nation is a cult .... fucking pink hats ...rem dog .... sweet caroline .... etc etc etc ..... i live outside boston , was a lifelong fan UNTIL they won their second World Series .... thats when red sox nation , via WEEI , got nutty and lost me . Although I admit I still follow the Red Sox soap opera , the difference being now I want them to lose , not win .

  • What concert is this taken from? brilliant video, exceptional band!

  • TER NA VIDA UMA BANDA COMO A ELO É TUDO DE BOM NA VIDA!!!!

    FANTÁSTICO!!!! MARAVILHOSO!!!

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!! WOW! THANK YOU!!

  • elo in the morning, elo midday , and elo before going to bea with my hubby lol. gina

  • Wow finally a great live clip with excellent Sound !!!

Hugh is really doing a great job , what a cello rockstar ! And perfect vocals from the late Kelly !

  • Totally tubular to the max!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • guess what? this concert is finally available on DVD! :)

  • @ELONut

Don't tease me - where? I SAW this tour!!!

  • RIP Kelly.

  • Que show en vivo mas especial e interesante.ELO demostro al mundo que se podia hacer shows en vivo con instrumentos clasicos. Esto se llama innovacion y ser visionarios en lineas musicales.

  • If only Roy had stayed, what a band they would have been!

    (pretty good without him though,lol)

  • @ivanthecuddly - Roy is good in his own right, but I think his departure is what helped make ELO what it became - a stellar pop-rock band. The first album was just weird, and disjointed. Their songs got much better when Lynne had the reins by himself.

  • anyone have a rare vinyl called, An Evening With, or In the Evening.

Cover art was a really cool painting on them on stage

  • Jeff Lynne couldn't even sing his original part on 10538? And the Move version of Do Ya was always the best. Don't know why Roy let Jeff have ELO. Wizzard was great and real classical Rock n Roll.

  • @Shooby52 - I think Jeff was just sharing the duties. He does sing part of each of the verses, and his notes are the same as Kelly's. It's not that he couldn't do it. I like how they trade off with each other.

  • No other band could rock this hard on a cello

  • Oh happy days... miss you Kelly xx

  • Great song and great performance. Where and when was this concert?

  • Great vid of 2 great ELO songs! Bev Bevan's drumming is brill. Thanks dl1027!

  • Did Paul Weller credit ELO for using this riff in Changing Man?

  • Did Paul Weller credit ELO for using this riff in Changing Man?

  • There was only one drummer in ELO. Sorry Jeff, you simply are not in the same class as Bev.

  • Thats what the zoom era lacked! the excitement of the Rocking string section, this is exactly what ELO were all about!

  • Bev and his Slingerlands!

  • This song would not have been out of place on one of the Beatles latter albums.

  • Well Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne said this song was the birth of ELO and was meant to pick up where I Am The Walrus left off!

  • where is this footage from? Victoria Palace London 73/4 LFJ

  • Sorry to hear of Kelly's passing. RIP from Bolton - UK.

  • is it me ,ive just watched them twins on x factor, whats happened to the music industry, elo, slade etc oozed class, now any talentless act can make a fortune from, rubbish songs, sad

  • @mickydoyle48 mickey me lad, it isn't just you. class is now a rare beast, a shy beast which is seldom seen in the music industry today. the good news is that it's still there, and if we nurture it, we just might save it. Jeff is still around.

  • well this is the main reason I hate polish music in general (I'm a Pole), 'cos the only thing we get, apart from some older bands, is a big pile of stinky shit.

  • Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

First, R.I.P. Kelly, you truly are missed!

    Alrighty then.... OUTSTANDING!

    Love, love love love this!

    Be blessed

  • This is fantastic! Bev Bevan sounds Keith Moonish here!

  • Kind of funny how the seemingly more attractive guys are on the more classical instruments! Chicks dig oboes.

  • Love the Cellos and violins great to hear the over everything else!!

  • kelly died, oh gosh, RIP kelly

  • Great! Thank you.

  • in the first two seconds of the song i thought he was playing sweet home alabama. lol

  • Huh??

  • Kelly Groucutt, who died on 19 February, 2009, aged 63, was a British musician best known for being the bass player with the Electric Light Orchestra.

He joined the band in 1974 and was considered part of the 'classic line-up' which enjoyed chart success for the remainder of the decade and into the '80s.

  • Cool as hell...Awesome!!!

  • This is not my favorite band but my two favorite ELO songs on one video? Priceless!

  • Absolutely phenomonal !!! The closest version yet to my beloved "Long Beach" version on the B-side of the American United Artists "Evil Woman" single!!!!!

  • I absolutely love this video. Anyone know why Bev Bevan was wearing that glove? My guess is that he hasn't used that stick grip since Eldorado and the glove makes it more comfortable.

  • bev said 10538 is about a space case that walks around with numbers on his forehead drawn in lipstick.

  • Story I've heard, a few times, is that it was the serial number on a new tape reel in the recording studio.

  • In his ELO biog Bev said taht sometimes his hands would be bleeding by the end of a set...

  • Thats true he was a bleeder, the grip he uses in this is not his usual so he must have been in pain,Bevs a heavy hitter like Bonam,it takes it's toll on your hands.I think in his book he said he would just tape his hands and get on with it.Outstanding.

  • Kell is singing in heaven now. RIP

  • YEAH! to everyones comments - no matter what music I listen to, it pales in comparison to ELO and Jeff Lynne!

This is one of my favorite clips because of the great transition - love em!!

  • Great SongJeff Lynne.. hip/ hop rap has ..no place w/ me..Rap suck.s.artist not- with standing..yet..everyone has their..say.Free'ly..Rap is a Dead End.. I Despise Rap Crap.

  • what a great clip! both songs are great...and Bev rocks on those drums! I love the transition between the two songs

  • ELO... one of my all-time fave bands. stellar pop/rock. special shout out to the cellists <3 ahh, Melvyn @ 1:47 etc....

  • the cellists were awesome...they made some great sounds. ELO rocks.

  • "The guy" is Kelly Groucutt you ignorant. He used to play with EO part II and The Orchestra after Lynne left the band. He died few months ago.

  • these guys sounded great in concert. nice.

  • Spectacular!.. but why the cellos doesn't play from the begining of Do Ya!!!!!

  • Never Have I Seen Men Try So Hard To Make The Cello Sexy... And Succeed!

    Christ, What Moustaches!

  • @Dipthefal

... Not to diminish this comment, but I would suggest you see Apocalyptica doing Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King," too. Both are great performances.

  • Rock on the 10538...

This mid -Seventies clip STILL sounds just as great - and yes FABULOUS drumming...fill-tastic!!

  • WHAT A KILLER TRANSITION! ELO was one of the first bands to get me started on music at 3 years old back in 1980! They've been such a huge part of my musical upbringing. I wish I could've expierenced them live around this time. They just don't make 'em like they used to, and THAT-IS-A-FACT!

  • Fantastic stuff. It hits you like a brick- wall of sound! Thx for posting. :)

  • best ELO live clip i ¨ve seen, thanks for sharing, is this whole show available?

  • the whole show is available on video, its called fusion.you might find it on ebay

  • Rest In Peace Kelly Groucutt. Jeff Lynne was the leader but in concert Kelly would sing a lot of Jeff's parts because Jeff was sort of shy!.

  • No way. Groucutt was new to the band here and Lynne was giving him some air time.

  • This reminds me of the first time I ever saw ELO. On TV somewhere, all I remember from that is the fabulous wall of sound, and the violins and cellos all over the stage, and wild, deep sounds. I am pretty sure it was 10538, but no way of knowing for sure.

It was an epiphany in music for me.

  • If anyone wants a reminder why Bevan is one of rocks best drummers and why Lynne is not, watch this video.

  • Because Jeff Lynne isn't a drummer by trade? Same reason Bev isn't a guitar legend.

  • but Lynne is not playing the drums and have never heard or seen him play them either !

  • This appears to be from the A New World Record tour. And somehow Jeff refuses to release any tapes from their live shows (Zoom doesn't count).

  • It was the 'Face the Music' tour

  • Actually Don Arden owns the rights to this and the Wembley Out Of The Blue concert video.

  • oh come on! stop talking out of your ass!

this fucking rocks! would you rather they sat down and wore a white wig?

  • It's a bumer that Kelly Groucutt passed away. Now The Orchestra (ELO Part II) has lost it's only singer from the original ELO.

  • It saddens all of to hear of Kelly Groucutts passing. His voice and bass playing helped make Jeff's longtime dream ELO a reality.

  • Kelly, rest in peace. A great bassist. Now there won't be an ELO reunion of the four core members from the great years.

  • Sad news today to hear about Kelly Groucutt's passing. He was a huge part of ELO's success in the 70s and early 80s. This video showcases his talent as a singer in his own right. RIP Kelly...

  • This is the first live video I've seen where Bevan shines and plays brilliantly

  • Richard Tandy really knows his keyboards! To me ELO peaked on the A NEW WORLD RECORD ALBUM and perhaps OUT OF THE BLUE. DISCOVERY and TIME were great but you can tell the band was starting to take a different direction. The orchestra instruments were taking more of a progressively back seat which I didn't like. Still everything they did from the 1st album through TIME was excellent.

  • ElO uplifts your soul, love it!

  • very nice clip

    i luv this band still

  • Comment removed

  • am going 2 c them in may

  • People shouldn't equate the lack of another songwriter in ELO with the fact that none of them could write. In fact, Lynne did all the producing and songwriting because he wouldn't allow others to contribute. So, years later, when he complained that he did "everything" in ELO, that was because he insisted it be that way. So now he can't complain about it. The fact remains that ELO was once a formidible touring band, and has only played perhaps 4 gigs in the U.S. since 1981. Hardly alot...

  • @ 1:48 nice!

  • and @ 3:07 !

  • Bevan is very cool and talented just like every ELO musician, but the driving creative force was Lynne. Bevan never even wrote one song for ELO, or produced one, or edited one, or decided what instruments would be best to use. Those were Lynne's ideas. And Lynne wrote great pop-rock music from the beginning to the present of his career.

  • Bevan is an awesome drummer. Too bad that during ELO's last 6 years of existence his drumming style (not to mention drum machines) became very basic to record pop songs.

  • This is the style of ELO I really like. A bit like Yes and ELP.

  • LOVE the cellos. Hugh and Melvyn... ooh, la, la!

  • in what year did they make this? is a complete recital or just those songs? I only have the concert Out of the Blue and Zoom Tour and I want to get more material live of ELO...

  • 1976, Fusion, Live in London it was available on VHS in the early 90s, never on DVD though. I have been hunting for a copy too

  • Thank you very much, Mr. Nut

  • This is sooooo awesome. The cellos sound like a classic Beatles George Martin number, even BETTER!

  • A great live clip. And we sit waiting patiently for the release of ELO's Greatest Hits Live.

  • There's a DVD out now, Live at wembley! Bloody brill! mate

  • I always thought that French Horn part sounded better on Moog Synthesizer.

  • Duelling cellos??

  • Thanks for putting this up.

I agree, this is a very best live vid of ELO

    And yes, Bev had a great inluence on the muppet animal (-;

  • Very good stage performance! First time I saw Groucutt singing lead voice. It would have better for ELOs success if not Jeff was so much in the center of stage and attention. But "It's over!". They won't ever come back in that formation we see here. Jeff get's along well with Tandy. But with the rest of the group,

I don't think so. But IF they do, it would not be like the Beatles in 1994/1995.

ELO would need a really excellent comeback single in the music style from today. Then I

    would say ok.

  • I want to be at this concert so much! I love Hugh McDowell! And Jeff is so cool.xx

  • In the music world Jeff Lynne is the equivalent of a mad scientist..BRILLIANT!!!

  • Jeff is a Legend :) <3

  • god,i wish they'd get together again...even now, panties would be flying on stage!!!

  • LOL

  • A very formidible live band at one time. Too bad that Jeff Lynne has played maybe 4 shows in the United States since their last US tour ended in 1981. I was fortunate to see them on that tour. If the Time Tour would have been properly advertised as the group's swan song (as it was), they would have filled all the arenas instead of relying on Hall and Oates to do some of that (who had a top 10 album at the time with Private Eyes). Missed opportunities all around for this band.

  • YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! For fuck sake JEFF! get on the phone and get the guys back together! Now That would Be Headline news

  • Nope Sir,

even after 40 years I've seen nothing like you.

    Do ya.

  • Not being a huge ELO fan I assumed it was simply Jeff Lynne and a buncha backing musicians(at least that the way I perceived HE wanted it to be). Seeing this I can see that like Tull from 68-80,this was a BAND,a GREAT BAND.

  • Now... THAT'S ELO!

And YES, if they could re-form (transl.: get past whatever bitterness they developed over the years), they'd make a PILE!

(and if they need an extra guy on keys, I'm available!)

  • after this look for paul wellers chaingingman and listen lol

  • Am I the only one who is thinking...if they reformed, they would make a HUGE pile of cash?I'd give my fucking right arm...

  • I have to admit, I always called it the 'ten fifty-three eight overture myself.

  • Good to see the ELO actually playing live.

  • they always did play live!

  • Keep in mind this is the same ELO lineup that had the chance to headline Knebworth in 1979, but Jeff Lynne turned it down. Led Zep got the shot instead. A major blunder in my opinion.

  • What does the serial # have to do with some dude runnin through the streets?

  • I heard that the song was about a prisoner of war with the number 10538 tattooed on his head. I don't know if this is true but it sort of makes sense of the lyrics and makes quite a sad tale.

  • According to the inside record cover of the album the 10538 Overture came in, the serial number was of Leonardo da Vinci's model of his flying machine, a crude precursor of a gyrocopter.

  • Because it was the serial number on the mixing desk!

This gig is amazing! Cant wait for someone to clean it up and release it on DVD!!

  • The question is..WHY...is it called...10538 Overture ??

  • Fantastic!

I've been an ELO fan since '75 :)

This really needs to be released on DVD!

  • Bev Bevan rules!!ELO was Frackin awesome!!!!!!

  • listen to this and then listen to paul wellers the chaingingman lol

  • actually this brings tears due to the reality of musicians playing real music with real feeling w/o all of the"stuff" that whats called music nowadays is filled with.

it seems that if you can play 2-3 chords and can scream you can call yourself a musician, what a load of crap..

  • Yeah, that stuff's a bunch of crap...so let's stick with some good ol' ELO and some good ol' rock!!!

Love Jeff's guitar and Richard's keyboard playing in this...when will Jeff rejoin ELO???

  • Yeah, I've listened to a lot of the music these days that my kids are into. God help them. This was the real deal.

  • Now this is music. All you hip hop kids! Listen up, and watch this. People playing instruments. Amazing, isn't it? :)

  • Jr Its great to know some one feels the same way do.These guys are like Led Zep,Deep Purple,ETC..You'll never hear rock and roll Gods like these again....Theres no voilence or gun talk..Just real rock and roll,Oh yeah,RAP SUX,and should be banned!!!

  • That was an awesome vid!!!!

  • Blue violins! Flying cellos! Full heads of hair! The classic line-up! Those were the (ELO) days, my friends!

  • What kind of music! So fine So nice So wonderful. This is real music from a genius!

  • Freeking awesome! OMG...look at Richard's small keyboard...how much they advanced later.

  • WOW !!!

  • man i love art rock. elo is the best.

  • Best ELO song ever. From the same time (and reminiscent of) the Barclay James Harvest.

  • DoYa was originally recorded by the Move, I think. On the Harvest Label.

  • wow the celloists are really rockin' out!!

    amazing band!

    amazing songs!
