Look at Defensor, he was intelligent. And, while limited in vocabulary, Devastator had a rather distinct personality and wasn't dumb.

Basically, what you saw in G1 is what you got. Now if you want to go make some fanfic and rewrite the show up to flesh out characters, then be my guest.

I miss Omega Supreme...back in the good ole days when things were simple even the toys were easy to keep track of. Now there are so many generations with the same names it must be confusing for kids these days. The 80's ...sigh
So how come the Autobots can't handle the Stunticons, but the Aerialbots can? The Autobots have been cars a lot longer than the Stunticons. They should be kicking their tailpipes.
@jonthom11702 Probably because the Stunticons have been designed with new technologies that the Autobots didn't have at this point. It's an arms race basically, one side gets an edge only to be countered later on.
This is shown with gestalt technology in this clip. The Decepticons got it first but the Autobots eventually stole it or discovered it themselves.
