You think all the others love you but its beacause you are confused and cant be bothered and you have never met Jesus, but Jesus is the only one that loves you. All the others are trick to decieve you, their love is no love but hatred and they will take you straight into hell fire
You are missing the point of this video. We both agree that all the others are nonexistent mythical beings. Thus, they don't exist to love anyone in the first place. The point of this video is to illustrate how I perceive the oft repeated statement "Jesus loves you;" namely, that it is simply yet another claim about yet another alleged deity and, as such, holds little weight with me.
Wow, that's pretty cool, except that the Torah has actually had prophecies come true. No other books can claim that. And you can say that it was written after the fact, and I can say that if someone changed a word of it they would be tortured and killed, as was the custom of the day. And you could say "but still," and I could say "Naw dude" then I could point out that the Torah actually maps out the past 2000 years or so of the Jews ahead of time, then our argument would become circular.
Lord Jesus Christ is above all and He is the only One in control, He is the Judge because He is the Creator also. Clay cannot ask the master if it falls and breaks itself, "why are you throwing me in the fire?" But you still have a chance to not to be thrown away, repent of your sins and He will forgive you because He is a true and Holy God and we all have fallen. Read Mark 1:15 and Luke 15:7
Well, what is your reason for not beleive in Jesus as God anyway? What gives you doubt? (I'm looking for a serious answer, not sarcasm. Cmon, be honest. You don't have anything to be afraid of) I mean, have you even done any research to see if there is proof of Jesus and his existence? Have you ever gone to see if the people who clain to work miracles are actually successfull? If not, why not? What could it hurt?
But the most tragic thing is that these "gods" will not be judging you on the last day but Lord Jesus Christ will. And before Him no sinner can stand unless he accepts Him in this life as his Lord and Saviour. To your surprise these "gods" will be standing before Him (if they are real) including all unbelievers and atheists, begging for mercy but it'll be too late. Once one knows the Bible he'll know that He loves you because He is the Redeemer. But for an atheist it'll be like chewing iron.
Why would you do that to Jesus? He loved u enough to die for u on the cross, so u could have salvation, and he is the only GOD. I know that and u could never convince me that it isnt so. That is probably the most immature thing I have seen yet on youtube.
Also, why are you only attacking Jesus? Do you realize that if you treat Him worse than any other, you're just being a hypocrit? You're trying to say that there are so many "gods" who are better than him, even though (in your eyes) they should all be equal?
Can you put light and darkness in the same bowl and mix them up? Are you thinking I'm speaking nonsense? Why yes I am. Just like a sinner before the Most Holy is a nonsense. And the sinner that's not before the Most Holy is in the darkness. Wonder if you'll get my parable. It only takes half open heart.
Stubborn psychopaths like you need a lifetime, eternity and even more to turn from your evil ways. But too bad, He has only given u this one chance and if u keep on writing this u'll regret it big time.
The video responds to the common Christian assertion that "Jesus loves you" when aimed at atheists by illustrating how he is perceived by an atheist. If you think I need to know every deity on the list, you are missing the point. The list as a whole is only a tool used to show that Jesus is just one god in a sea of gods, and helps to convey that Jesus is nothing special to them.
This, in turn, shows how ineffective the phrase is when used in the fashion in question. There is also an element of sarcasm that you seem to have missed as well.
"But this is pretty shabby work on just about every level."
It is not shabby at all. I am not responsible for your failure at getting the message.
Fine, maybe I missed it. And believe me, I'm not trying to defend the WWJD freaks.
But I expected something a little more cutting from an "astronomer".
Lastly, it is the first fallacy of atheism to focus soley upon the followers instead of attacking the real meat. Probably because there is no real substance to atheism, only angst & misanthropy.
I am not attacking anyone or anything here. I'm just point out that "Jesus loves you" aimed at someone that doesn't believe in the current actuality of Jesus, is ineffectual.
As for atheism, since I define it a lack of belief in a "god," I agree that is it has no substance to it by its very definition. Letting people know you are an atheist just tells them one thing that you're not, i.e not much.
p.s. I apologize if I came off as being short with you in my second response. It is sometimes difficult to know the tone someone is using when you only see their words in text. I am also sorry that my video was a disappointment to you. (and I'm really not trying any guilt-trip bs either -- I mean it) All I can say is that, although I am biased by being its creator, I think this video is pretty well done.
The fundamental confusion on your part is to equate all "gods" on equal terms.
Clearly, to any rational individual, even one who rejects religion, there exists a value ranking of the historical "gods."
FYI, the greeks distinguished among a hierarchy of "dieties". Thus the majority of those you list don't qualify as gods in the sense that Christans claim Jesus was god (son of).
But regardless, its obvious that Jesus is not equivalent to Ah Puch. That's judgement failure on your part.
I didn't mean that every deity ever asserted to actually exist is equal in every sense of the word. I only meant that I disbelieve in them all equally, i.e. they all hold an equal amount of weight in my eyes: none. As far as I am concerned, they all are equally nonexistent. Of course I could be wrong about any one of them, (I'm agnostic as well) it's just that I don't actively believe in any of them.
I guess to me your statement doesn't make sense for the following reason: clearly, Zeus never lived. We know that. He was a figment of imagination. But we know that Jesus lived. So how can you not believe in either of them equally?
Whether or not there was an influential historical figure by the name of Jesus of Nazareth is one thing -- whether or not he was the son of the creator of the universe (and simultaneously "god in the flesh") is quite another. I do not believe that Jesus is a deity and I do not believe Zeus is a deity. My belief regarding the "god aspect" of them both is zero.
At first, when I said that this video was stupidity, it was a casual comment, mostly a joke.
Your subsequent comments have only cemented my initial sacrastic perception into firm judgment.
Pathetic. You are like the worm in Plato's cave. The only encouragment I can give you is that at least you are unsatisfied with the shadows on the wall.
Hmm... The conversation was going so well and now, all of a sudden, you are doing a 180. You said why you thought it a poor video, and I addressed all your points. Now, after several days of silence, you come back making the same accusation. (here we go again) Now please tell me what you thought was poor about the video (...again) and I'll address it. Thanks physphys.
I think you may be right, in a sense, but different names in different cultures. Pretty much like Jesus, krishna and Mithras being practically the same "Son of God", but different names in different cultures.
Well, not exactly. I meant, are they not the same as in, Jesus and Christ?
I mean, if you want to take it that far, then they're all divinities and all the same and one, so you put one name in the list (deus) and that's it. Of course, that wasn't what I was talking about. Nor what the video is about, I guess.

Yes, I understand. I am aware of the similarities and the influences, and in fact I was specifically arguing that Dionysus and Bacchus are not cases as such, that is, not different names in different cultures (and modifications thereof) but different names in the same culture, as I said. It's not important anyway, I said that just as a curiosity.
By the way, I got these from a list of deities I found and there was no way for me to research them all prior to posting, so I apologies if there are any mistakes.
Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean to imply you weren't careful, of course it's minor and irrelevant. I noted that as a curiosity and, you know, as in the spirit of: these gods might be very jealous with one another. For us it might be a distraction or a detail, but not for them ... :)
Well, personally, I see how you can develop such strong beliefs being a scientist and thinking analytically. As a high school student planning to go into mathematics or physics, I find myself thinking
the same way sometimes, but then i think to myself, "what if im wrong?". Look at the statastics. 33% of the world is christian, and 21% of the world is muslem and a very small percent is jewish. so thats more than half of the population that believe in the same god. Now what if your wrong? Would it hurt to believe in this god and worship him? If 50% percent of the
population believe in it then there must be some reason it spread so quickly. If your wrong and the god that 50 % of the population worships is real, then according to the text, you are doomed to a lake of fire, hypothetically of course. Would it hurt to believe in this religion during your life just in case? These are just a few questions that i ask myself. Good luck Astronomer, choose wisely.
The risk is you either become as depraved as them or you may be eaten by them. What kind of choice is that? Maybe a better choice would be for you to believe what suits you, leave others to believe what suits them and leave each to face their own consequences for the choices they make. Who among us is qualified to decide?
I understand the point you have made. Here is your basic christian response: demons/the devil (which atheists don't believe exist, just like Jesus)have created the idea and beliefs of all of these other gods because if you believe in them than you aren't believing in the true God. furthermore if they don't exist than neither can Jesus (which is what you believe.) they hate you and are glad you don't love Jesus. Jesus loves you.
I noticed you left out the Flying Spaghetti Monster...at first I was offended, then I realized why...you were listing all of the FALSE gods and everyone knows FSM is REAL! Ramen.
If loving someone meant they had to love me back, I'd go fall in love with the hottest, richest, smartest, most famous and talented chick I could possibly find. In my experience however, no one loves me just because I love them first. That's not how it works. If it did work that way, everything would probably be a complete disaster. Love is completely voluntary. Nobody should be guilt-tripped into love (which is impossible anyways).
SecularA. made a statement with his video about JC at the end he said sorry, since I completely agree with him I asked him why than he says sorry. From my point of view there was no JC as there was never a Zeus or allah Because there is no proof. Therefore I consider his video right. OK?
Apollo really loves you, he is gay you know, ask Hyacinthus. Jesus was a slut with the 12 disciples, Apollo has real honor!! I love Greek mythology. Take care!
I would love to remember all of those names in alphabetical order and recite them the next time I get into a religious discussion. Thanks for posting this.
Why would you think Mars the God of War loves you? That seems pretty unlikely unless you have much more fighting prowess than I am guessing that you do. If you read a little about any of those supposed Gods you would see how different they are from the Jesus told about in the gospel accounts.
*sigh* I guess I have to spell it out for you: I understand the word eternity and I understand symbols that represent eternity. Now can you please tell me what you mean by this? Please use sentences this time. Ok? Use your words.
There we go. You used a sentence fragment and a question. Now we're getting somewhere.
One cannot properly answer the question, "Do you believe eternity is true," unless you supply said person with the proper context. What connotation of the word 'eternity' are you asking if I believe in?
I'm sorry, but I don't think it possible for me to carry on a conversation with someone as underdeveloped in social/communication skills as you are. Until you grasp how basic dialogue works, I think any further conversation will be pointless. It seems you disagree with something pertaining to the truth value of "eternity", but you just aren't capable of articulating what you mean.
Well, if you ever do finally articulate it in an intelligible manor, I'd be happy to listen and respond.
That's a pretty inconsequential observation of yours since if you read about any of those supposed gods you would see how different they are from any other of those supposed gods. But really, if you know your mythology then you know there's a list of man-gods with many similarities, and Jesus is on it. As are Apollonius of Tyana, Mithras, Heracles, Krishna, and Horus-Dionysus. So no, Jesus is not really so different after all.
You think all the others love you but its beacause you are confused and cant be bothered and you have never met Jesus, but Jesus is the only one that loves you. All the others are trick to decieve you, their love is no love but hatred and they will take you straight into hell fire

Um... ok... Interesting reply, swim. I just hope you understand what I'm saying now.
SecularAstronomer 4 years ago
You and I will never agree unless 1 of us admits we are wrong.Don't say there is no right or wrong.
swim888 4 years ago
I'm confused. What is there to disagree with?
QuantumWorker 4 years ago
Swim, you exhibited a misunderstanding of what I said and I clarified... What's the problem now?
SecularAstronomer 4 years ago
Eternity.
swim888 4 years ago
You're not being very clear. What do you mean by, "Eternity." (perhaps you should use sentences this time)
SecularAstronomer 4 years ago
O-----------> Maybe you understand pictures.
swim888 4 years ago
*sigh* I guess I have to spell it out for you: I understand the word eternity and I understand symbols that represent eternity. Now can you please tell me what you mean by this? Please use sentences this time. Ok? Use your words.
SecularAstronomer 4 years ago
If you don't believe eternity is true. What are asking me to put into words?
swim888 4 years ago
There we go. You used a sentence fragment and a question. Now we're getting somewhere.
One cannot properly answer the question, "Do you believe eternity is true," unless you supply said person with the proper context. What connotation of the word 'eternity' are you asking if I believe in?
SecularAstronomer 4 years ago
It really doesn't matter it is too late anyway.
swim888 4 years ago
You really should work on your social skills. (Specifically: your communication skills) I suppose I must still hold your hand here:
Now, what is too late and why? Use words like 'because'. Ok?
Ex: x makes it too late to y because of z.
SecularAstronomer 4 years ago
And you are Z.
swim888 4 years ago
I'm sorry, but I don't think it possible for me to carry on a conversation with someone as underdeveloped in social/communication skills as you are. Until you grasp how basic dialogue works, I think any further conversation will be pointless. It seems you disagree with something pertaining to the truth value of "eternity", but you just aren't capable of articulating what you mean.
Well, if you ever do finally articulate it in an intelligible manor, I'd be happy to listen and respond.

My comment post is broken.

Jesus will not make you Love Him.
swim888 4 years ago
Neither will any of the other gods on the list.
iconoclastic23 4 years ago
He already loves the other gods.
swim888 4 years ago
Set doesn't love you, and further, he hates to be referred to as Seti. Only his mother calls him that.
We're friends, I asked.
