There are no words for a masterpiece like this. How can anyone prefer, or even just enjoy pop music, once you've heard a piece like this! I still can't understand that. Bach = one of the reasons to be alive.
Bach has left us so many gifts to enjoy. Bach will most likey be remembered for a very long time to come. His memory legacy will continue to be with us, and live on for many future generations.
@poopingeneral Well, you got me there! lol. Poor choice of words on my part at my first try, but I do think that Marcel Dupre was the best organist alive of the first half of the 20th Century. Yes, J.S. Bach was the best organist of his time and is still today. Dupre would not play his Fantasia if this was not so. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you as well.
@Nguli34689 Dupre, Widor, Guilmant, Bach, there all exceptional composers, especially Bach. Only Bach could of conjure up such a divinely moving organ piece like this. ;-)
@poopingeneral True, I remember listening to this very piece during one of life's heavy ordeals. The sound was able to still my mind arouse inner peace. What Bach heard in his inner mind and transmitted it into the future to us via ink and paper will continue to have an effect on humans. In my case, I have a sizable record collection dating as far as 80 years. I was listening to Dupre at St. Sulspice. I hope to find another organist and I think I will. Thank you for writing. Happy New Years 2U.
@Nguli34689 Dupre was an interesting organist, kind of like our Virgil Fox here in America. Dupre has a very unique style of his own, just as Fox did. I would argue Dupre's best performances are when he was a much older man, especially the recording of Crucifixion from Symphonie-Passion, and believe it or not he was 79 years old when he made this recording!!!
Thank you for your kind thoughts, and may you have a Happy New Year yourself! :-D
@poopingeneral I like the way both this artist and Dupre have made the bass grow richer in color during the second movement of this piece. The third movement of this Fantasia is like listening to the voice of the wind (an in a way, it is). I also like artists who are capable of setting the imagination aflame. It's a shame I haven't had time to make a contrast with Virgil Fox, but I will. Many thanks for the suggestion here. It is always appreciated. Good health to you and yours for New Year.
@toxiconegro yes ? I always thought that he wrote the Bwv in the number"s Order. Its very Amazing. I cant tell which are early and later written Music, everything is SO Perfect.
he wrote the passacaille and fugue at the age of 22 or 23, it is so unbelievable that when I was practicing it at the same age and it dawed to me, I started shaking all over and could never finish playing, how can one compose perfection????
@ewokmusic NO!.. i have give this "nick"name .. at this composition. When i listen this music.. I imagine .."The ascension" of Jesus Christ.. I IMAGINE!
OMG - 1:30 hits you like a BRICK when you first hear this... but not painfully, just shockingly GORGEOUS.
Bach is the master of harmony!
