@MrGilles1990 The NHS isnt the best that i will admit, but worst i disagree, ive never had any problems whilst at hospital. I know many foreign people who have never had problems, they have had problems in France and Spain tho. The fact is this video is about the fact that we have a health service and not worry about insurance unlike the Americans. "How much money we put in and how much we get back", what do you want a xmas card and a mince pie. We pay tax for everyone not just ourselves.

We;re 18th in the WHOLE world USA is 36th France is 1st but after a little research.... only if the semi-privrate idea effects the improvment of waitting times and Cancer treatment. and Thatcher overrated? 98%^ of people hate her infact the ONLY person who i know who liked her is my dad, because of the council house buying shceme. (Because to be a doctor it takes 7 years... and the Unis that would be best for Doctors are now charge 9k a year...which makes it 63k over the time + Living costs for the 7 years. this will put off possible doctors for the future. therefore the standards will get worse..... you can't rely on forigners to help us as much as they already are... their countries need doctors too.

I'd sooner stuggle to pay of my debts than see the NHS destroyed! It is an amazing institution, and I'm seriously worried that this government will try and privatise it.

You see, it's a matter of principle. As a government body, you and I own the NHS, but as a private sector industry, it's owned by someone trying to make a profit. And Healthcare should NEVER be about money.

@MrGilles1990 Not to defend the super-rich, but they do pay a huge amount of tax - don't take my word for it, but I think those that earn over £100,000 a year pay a 50% tax rate. It's not that I don't think that the super-rich should be taxed (I'm all in favour of taxing those bloody w/bankers), but I think that it's wrong to tax people on healthcare.

I just think it kind of defeats the whole idea of a universal healthcare system...

Everyone has a right to live and healthcare is a basic human right. If the wealthy paid their fair share through taxes then we could use those taxes for free healthcare, free education, benefits, welfare and so on so that the poor could take themselves out of the gutter and that would increase their purchasing power and in the long run be better for the rich, themselves and the economy. I'd tax the rich to the hilt if I could.

@MrGilles1990 the Golden Age(50's-70's) was the time when the West prospered, and during that time the top marginal tax rate for the richest Americans was around 90-94%. We built the welfare state, we had industry and exports, we had semi-Fair Trade, we had a unionized workforce, the government spent money in times of crisis to get the economy going and large public works programs were started to get people employed -> they consume and pay taxes -> economy rolls on. That's social democracy.

I'm in favour of a regulated, mixed economy like that of the Postwar-period(Golden Age) - I'd like to go much further but that's a step in the right direction. Political, social and economical democracy is what I want to see - that is Socialism.
