The Italian original is a masterpiece...this dubbed and cut version is painful to witness. You get only a blurry and dim idea. The voice over they've used to bridge over the cuts and try to explain the story is just awful. They've cut and rearranged things making it more of an "action" film and less lyrical and fantastic. The superb quality of the original b&w cinematography, the lighting and the art direction are muddied. Massimo Girotti went on to star as Gino in Visconti's "Ossessione".
