You know, people like her and Donnie Hathaway, another Unsung subject, make their mark with more than just their music. And ironically they both passed away in 1979. It's as if they are allowed to exist within a certain period of time and then taken away. Fortunately for their fans we are left with their creations.
Just finished watching Minnie Ripperton's unsung and I learned of her struggle with her cancer battle and how through it all she still made music and perform to keep her fans happy she truly is and was an inspiration,her music really needs to be worldwide cause I grew up thinking she only had one song but I learned of so much more,and I never knew the actress from saturday night live was her daughter and since i've seen this I see how much her daughter is like her.
This is a beautiful song. I've always loved it, now years later I can truly relate to the song, and the emotions involved after falling in love. Years later to have those emotions stirred up.

This song is so sad to me it brings tears to my eyes since i know it was towards the end of her life. There is almost no talent like her's in today's new artist. I watched her on Unsung and damn near broke down cause she left earth at such an early age. We miss you Minnie!!!

I love Minnie so much and miss her. This song is the hardest one for me to listen to because she left us just weeks after this album's release. I look at this video and wonder how she did it - being in unbelieveable pain with no use of her left arm. Yet that Songbird kept on doin it until she couldn't anymore. We were so blessed to have her, even for a little while.

I so cried when they played this on UnSung. In combination with her home movies...damn, I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about it. Minnie was definitely one of the greatest vocal talents ever put on Earth.

Minnie Julia Riperton (11/8/1947 - 7/12/1979), gone but never forgotten. I believe this same clip from The Mike Douglas Show was used on the Soul Train show paying tribute to Minnie in the fall of 1979.

She entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on July 10. On Thursday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m., while lying in her husband's arms, Riperton died while listening to a recording Stevie Wonder had made for her.

I think this was her last performance before she died, a month later. Her right hand was paralyzed at that time, which is why she doesn't move it throughout the song.

minnie was the best to ever do it, patti took her place after she passed away, she was so young, her daughter mya was on snl for a long time, i remember she sang to her live a few times, i seen the clips,i was only 2 1/2 when she passed i got to know who she was when i was like 12 or 13 i am 36 makin 37 soon, she is legengdary i tell u her son & daughter had such a great mom i say.

I loved Minnie Riperton. I was about 8 or 9 when she passed remember not understanding how someone who was so wonderful had to leave so soon. So many ave tried to imitate but they just don't cut the mark!!

You know, people like her and Donnie Hathaway, another Unsung subject, make their mark with more than just their music. And ironically they both passed away in 1979. It's as if they are allowed to exist within a certain period of time and then taken away. Fortunately for their fans we are left with their creations.

Just finished watching Minnie Ripperton's unsung and I learned of her struggle with her cancer battle and how through it all she still made music and perform to keep her fans happy she truly is and was an inspiration,her music really needs to be worldwide cause I grew up thinking she only had one song but I learned of so much more,and I never knew the actress from saturday night live was her daughter and since i've seen this I see how much her daughter is like her.
