  • She was sick and her left arm lost movement and she still perform thats shows what type of woman she is only three people I know work hard even when they are sick, Minnie Riperton, Micheal Jackson, and Micheal jordan okay what do all these people have in common dedication and commented to what they love and two people on my list die doing what they love and thats the way I want to go out.

  • @kenrickeason it's a crime to leave Tammi Terrell out your list so i had to shout her out.She had a brain tumor during her entire short carrer and died in her twenties.

  • Rihanna needs to take some damm notes real singing real instruments no computer generated trash.

  • @LBMAAS STOP IT!

This is not the place to use Minnie as a reason to tear down someone totally unrelated to THIS VIDEO.

    How disrespectful.

  • @DaBigMotor So glad you appreciated my opinion of how musicians and singers of today are really computer generated props and acts like Minnie are timeless.

  • I have so much love, respect and sorrow for this woman. Amazing voice, gone too soon and this performance just proved why she is in Heaven with all the other angels now... she was too good for Earth, God is damn lucky.

  • I wish the five people who disliked this video would die a horrible death. Like get their faces sheared offed in a car accident.

  • Makes me cry each time, My God-- when she said " I don't want to go, Save Me." I played it for my Hubby one day and was explaining the pain and that she was dying and asking God to save her, it almost brought him to tears. I had to turn it off. After watching unsung, I felt like I would have liked to have known this beautiful woman.

  • she did this with her arm in pain, knowing she was living on borrowed time. I wish I would have seen her live

  • This song is why I now play the drums, kinda weird

  • What was her action at 1:25. Was she hurt?

  • I tear up everytime I hear her music because she was so young, beautiful, talented, and had such a sweet spirit about her. When I get to heaven, I hope to meet her. RIP Minnie

  • This takes me "Back down Memory Lane".

  • Minnie is never far away, a true songbird, a true Angel, Spiritually, lovingly speaking of Minnie Riperton.

  • This song and Minnie Riperton holds a very special place in my heart. See our (my brothers and I) mother were battling cancer and died later that same year at 40 yrs old. We miss our mother and Minnie also. agrant of ga.

  • That just totally made me cry. Knowing she'd be dead a month later and watching her sing this song with words like "save me, " and "I don't want to go,". You'd have to be a cold hearted motherfucker to not feel sadness.

  • @altf4likeohmygawd I cry every time i watch this video. Especially after watching her special on Unsung

  • 4 dislikes....??????????

  • The bravery and talent of this woman is very touching and inspiring.

  • Minnie performed this song in June 1979 and she died July 12, 1979. In this song she sings, "I just don't wanna go, but I'm slipping fast."

  • I love this so much when I was a li girl I would I would sing this song day in and day out as if was Minnie Riperton

  • She was a true talent *-* btw Mariah Carey used to rehearse this song over and over to improve her whistling skills haha Minnie is such an inspiration :)

  • @BabyLamb01 thats so cute, i didn't know that....

  • @pinkpostergirl it really is... she told this whole thing in Korea while being interviewed about her range and influences to the whistle register :*

  • this makes me want to cryyyyyyyy....i loveeee herrrrrrr....beautiful soul!

  • There arent artists anymore who can sound the same live as they do on their albums. Her voice was so beautiful. She is such a fighter. Love <3<3<3

  • @me2u84 Yes she sure did huh? They may have said her music wasn't much (the Moguls) but in the end she got the last laugh.

  • She was more than something special. That voice is amazing.

  • Jesus what a voice !

  • She was, is, and will always be the best. RIP Minnie

  • Minnie was amazing!!!

  • Minnie is THE most vocally gifted singer ever! RIP

  • I was 18 when God called you home to sing with the Angels. I am sure the Angels were listening to you, shaking their heads and saying OMG!

    I LOVE YOU MINNIE.

  • she would have made mariah stop turn and walk off stage

  • wow... 4 dislikes... should i say anything?

  • i never cryed so hard in my life RIP MINNIE

  • A cancerous tumor paralyzed her right arm in early 1979. In her final singing appearances on television, her right arm would remain in a fixed position during her performances.

  • Even lip synching she was phenomenal... She is truly missed.

  • i love this song shes a wonderful singer

  • love her so much <3

  • At time it's hard for me to listen to this song because my mother passed over from cancer. But I can't help it . I LOVE THIS SONG.

  • when she was saying save me.... it made me cry. so tragic, so little time to share your gift Minnie...Thank You

  • when she was saying save me....with her outcry...it made me cry. she was an angel sent to blow a trumpet...

  • She told all the things she was going through in this song

  • Beautiful I still jam her music and I'm grilled others still love it. I'll never forget her or the music. I recall as a kid when she transitioned on, I spent summers with my Dad in and refused to that year because I was in mourning for Minnie yeah probably weird but when a legend leaves it hits hard especially when she was so vocally gifted.

  • Who's this Mariah Carey?? :^)

  • My favorite song by her..

  • Happy belated Birthday Minnie!, Sunrise 11.08.1947-Sunset 07.12.1979, she would have been 63 today

  • Her hubby is so handsome

  • I COULD LISTEN TO HER FOR DAYS & DAYS!!! LOVE HER MUSIC......

  • i think she knew she was going to die

  • @kkgirl300 No shit. She knew her cancer was terminal. It's no surprise or secret - she had been seeing a Dr. It's sad. She looks in pain in this recording.

  • @ThereseAline ..............

  • Maya Rudolph looks so much like her mother with lighter skin. :)

  • @me57487 Yes Maya looks just like her

  • wow very beautiful heavenly song its like a angel is singing this.this is mariah singing before mariah sihging today.check out minnie range,YES!

  • my girl from Chicago i was 15 when this came out and at that time i did n;t know what she was really says but know the girl just wanted more time on this earth gone to soon such a beautiful voice hey no one can touch her truly one of a kind and I'm glade i was able to enjoy her music

  • What an angel. Every time I hear her voice, it makes me happy to be alive.

  • This gives me chills! You really don't have singers like this anymore.

  • How sad a star was gone with so little time to shine. I'm sure the two people who clearly must have missed the like button would agree. Minnie was simply ahead of her time. What a loss.

  • She really left us a great gift. Life is too short to just not go and smell the flowers so to speak or just take every moment we have here on this earth and appreciate every moment with the one we love. And let them know that you love them. Because we never know when our time will come.

  • I love "Memory Lane", but I get that pang in my heart when I hear it...

  • This women was dying, had lost the use of her right arm...and still loved music so much she sang anyway. It was told to me that hittin that high note really hurt her throat, but it became her signature and it was natural for her to hit that note.

Then you have these artist who complain about silly stuff...and at their best they couldn't hold a handle to Mrs. Riperton.

  • Amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing!!!

  • this is when her cancer had spread enough to paralyze her right arm. and she still put on an amazing performance. wow. amazing. truly amazing

  • This song almost makes you cry, when you think about shortly after the airing of that show how she lost her battle to cancer. You will be sadly missed. Marlon

  • OMG!!!!!!!VOICE OF AN ANGEL!!!!!!! RIP

  • tru rhythm and blues...she is gorgeous!!!!! and REAL!!!

  • Mariah Carey only wishes she could sing like this ... range and control of her voice is unbelievable!!!

  • I WILL A;WAYS LOVE HER AND HER MUSIC.R.I.P.M.R.

  • This song is so sad to me it brings tears to my eyes since i know it was towards the end of her life. There is almost no talent like her's in today's new artist. I watched her on Unsung and damn near broke down cause she left earth at such an early age. We miss you Minnie!!!

  • @coast0385 =( yes that was hard for me to watch as well so sad

  • In life you may well never here a voice like that again cause minnie was a gift to the world from god better known as n (Angel).. may your memory live on in all of are hearts god sweet angel!!!!(tears)

  • I miss Minnie. Thanks for sharing.

  • A cancerous tumor paralyzed her right arm in early 1979. In her final singing appearances on television (most notably on the Mike Douglas Show), her right arm would remain in a fixed position during her performances.

  • no one can cry like her. period not even today

  • I love Minnie so much and miss her. This song is the hardest one for me to listen to because she left us just weeks after this album's release. I look at this video and wonder how she did it - being in unbelieveable pain with no use of her left arm. Yet that Songbird kept on doin it until she couldn't anymore. We were so blessed to have her, even for a little while.

  • I so cried when they played this on UnSung. In combination with her home movies...damn, I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about it. Minnie was definitely one of the greatest vocal talents ever put on Earth.

  • @PhireMadeFlesh Yes, indeed. I watched her Unsung story this afternoon, and I broke down in tears.

  • I CANT WATCH THIS WITHOUT CRYING BY ME STUDYING HER LIFE KNOWING Y SHE WROTE THIS. PPL THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG. IT'S A CRY OUT FOR HELP BCUZ SHE WAS DYING FAST!!

  • She left us way too soon.

  • you are amazing Minnie - your music keeps you alive in our hearts

  • the world was truely robbed of this beautiful voice when she died

  • EXCELLENCE!!!!!!

  • Wow

  • Super talent. Such a beautiful and wonderful soul. Love her!!!

  • Minnie Julia Riperton (11/8/1947 - 7/12/1979), gone but never forgotten. I believe this same clip from The Mike Douglas Show was used on the Soul Train show paying tribute to Minnie in the fall of 1979.

  • One of the best friends and one of the best Singers in the world I could've asked for. If you noticed her arm is in one location throughout that WHOLE song, but noneoftheless RIP Minnie, I'm going to miss you.

  • man this was what music was all about great emotion

minnie riperton looka there looka ther

    woo hoo

    i luva this

  • I think this was her last performance.

  • @32nikral A cancerous tumor paralyzed her right arm in early 1979. In her final singing appearances on television (most notably on the Mike Douglas Show), her right arm would remain in a fixed position during her performances.[1] By June, she was confined to a bed. She entered Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on July 10. On Thursday, July 12 at 10:00 a.m., while lying in her husband's arms, Riperton died while listening to a recording Stevie Wonder had made for her.

  • too bad i didnt get to know her, my respect..R.I.P.

  • Awsome!

  • I LOVE HER !!!

  • So sad that Minnie passed away just a few weeks after this performance, what a talent!

  • r.i.p.

  • used to love this song as a kid but didn't really understand it... as an adult it blows my mind

  • The beautiful voice of the late Minnie Riperton.. Her voice is so angelic. RIP Minnie

  • I think this was her last performance before she died, a month later. Her right hand was paralyzed at that time, which is why she doesn't move it throughout the song.

  • ice cube sampled this for his bomb ass song "Growing up"

  • minnie was the best to ever do it, patti took her place after she passed away, she was so young, her daughter mya was on snl for a long time, i remember she sang to her live a few times, i seen the clips,i was only 2 1/2 when she passed i got to know who she was when i was like 12 or 13 i am 36 makin 37 soon, she is legengdary i tell u her son & daughter had such a great mom i say.

  • I loved Minnie Riperton. I was about 8 or 9 when she passed remember not understanding how someone who was so wonderful had to leave so soon. So many ave tried to imitate but they just don't cut the mark!!

  • I like This video! She is my favorite singer Ever! I did a Dedication to her on Youtube called (Where would I be if it was'nt for you!) My name Shawn Holloway!

  • beautiful

  • voice of an angel, i belive this was her last tv appearance, n her right arm was paralyzed, that is why u dont c her using it...R.I.P, so young n so talented wish we had more of u...

  • @iwashim Well I watched her episode on Unsung and her husband said that her right arm was in so much pain and that's the reason she didn't want to move it.

  • Such feeling. Voice touched by God.

  • the strength that this woman shows during her performance while she's sick and paralyzed moves and saddens me. she's truly an inspiration. her voice is haunting.

  • Ditto on watching her episode of Unsung. Wow.

You know, people like her and Donnie Hathaway, another Unsung subject, make their mark with more than just their music. And ironically they both passed away in 1979. It's as if they are allowed to exist within a certain period of time and then taken away. Fortunately for their fans we are left with their creations.

  • Just finished watching Minnie Ripperton's unsung and I learned of her struggle with her cancer battle and how through it all she still made music and perform to keep her fans happy she truly is and was an inspiration, her music really needs to be worldwide cause I grew up thinking she only had one song but I learned of so much more, and I never knew the actress from saturday night live was her daughter and since i've seen this I see how much her daughter is like her.

  • her voice is beautiful!

  • MC FALL BACK

  • This is a beautiful song. I've always loved it, now years later I can truly relate to the song, and the emotions involved after falling in love. Years later to have those emotions stirred up.

  • What an amazing singer and so brave to continue to share her gifts with the world in this performance, despite her battle with cancer. Love, respect and admiration is what I have for Minnie Ripperton.
