  • Is that a quadruple expansion uniflow steam engine? In the engine diagram there are 4 circles. I thought these were triple expansion. If the EPA gets its way Lake Michigan Carferry will be forced to install ash bunkers to stop ash dumping in Lake Michigan, or have the expense of having to re engine with EMD locomotive diesels & electric motors. Too bad, it's the only coal fired passenger boat on the lakes. Stupid EPA!!!

  • engine room could do with a clean

  • @smishshipyards its a coal burner

  • They sure got a lot of "cranky-turnee thingees" in the engine room!

  • @caldragon7 You have no idea!

  • It's summer-only service now, but the hull of the Badger was designed (and used) for icebreaking.

  • The Badger is laid up at the dock in Ludington for the Winter usually

  • Where does Badger go in the winter?
