Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
Bert is a cool guy and great demonstrator, but I have seen that he does more or less the routine every time. Anyway, it's all good (; Thanks for uploading!
Nice features but I think the Yamaha EX5 sounds were MUCH better. Especially the deep biting analog sounds and the Trombone Tuba sounds, which are unmatched by any other synth. A virus may have a more biting gritty sound....but the Yamaha has a depth, richness and lusciousness I'm still searching for since I sold my EX5 and have been regretting it ever since.
blah, i have a motif xs8, good stuff, it's easy to get started, has a good learning curve, and the elements NEVER end..... over 2000 voice, think of the combos, and the mixes.... JESUS.
Regardless of brand (Roland, Korg, Yamaha)...all demo guys make it look sooooo easy. You know how it goes: "This feature is cool...all I do is press blah blah blah, go to the blah blah and there you have...it's that's easy..."
@Lorbeer321 , and what did you expect? A demo is a selling presentation from a company. They make a keyboard and try to sell it by showing it's strongest points. No demo will tell you 'this keyboard is great, but it's polyphony it's crap' or whatever.
Besides, 'the demo guy make it look soooooo easy' because he can really play
Yes, and because Elton John is gay that means he is not talented because we all know that gay people are worthless. Get a life dude, Elton John has more talent in his gay little pinky finger than you will ever have.
Lol, simmer down bro. I love Elton John's music. He's one of my biggest influences. I was just joking. While it's not my way, I really don't care what he does in his own time. He's a master of the highest order. Seems to me you're taking it a bit personal.
LOL hell yea I take it personally I'm a homo myself and i don't like to see handsome dudes like you being biggots so I'm glad to see you aren't one. :)
Ok guys so I need some help on this new decision I have been blessed to make. My band is getting a new board for me and they gave me the choice of the Roland Fantom G series or the Yamaha Motif X series. Any Suggestions or do any of yall have either boards.... con/pros?? lol anything would help
haven't test them out yet, but I know that cases for a Motif XS is much easier to find then for a Fantom G. The Fantom is one big motherf*cker, it's even bigger then the oasys!!!
lol! i think he is on steroids or drugs or somethin'! lol.he couldn't stay still on his chair for one second! that's why he's so quick keyboard player
hip hop and trance dance, I dont think this would be best for someone looking for hyper rhythm styles presets to many soap opera sounds on it maby the guiding light folks might buy one or all my children but not keyboard geeks I like synths loaded with 1000's of preset dance floor ready styles you can work with and then play some George Jones.
That "super articulation button" ..or whatever its called :P ... ANybody has any info about using that on the upcoming XS rack?... can it be used via midi CC:s ?
colossus, hahaha software crap...wait till you hear cpu overload (aka clicks, cracks, pops)...even with a great interface, adjusting buffer rate, tweaking windows, you will still hear the dreaded software crap. HARDWARE ALL THE WAY BABY...and japan means quality (yamaha/korg/roland), you can't go wrong!
Nope No computer needed, allthough I would recomend one to finalize your mixes before recording to adat or whatever format youll be using for your final product. Or if your just into it for the hobby of making music, just plug into a tape player and record your song to tape when done
Of course. When I said tape I meant as a quick general media low end format. I have no idea how serious of a mucisian you are. Users with little other equipment can just make a song on the keyboard and play it back while recording then take it with them in their car and listen to it 10 min later.
Hi, I haven't been dealing with pro audio for about 8 years. I need a versatile keyboard/sampler for live work as a stand alone sound source. When I say versatile I mean from MOR to contemporary dance/pop.
Motif XS does look like it's got all the right stuff, I am just not sure whether its sounds are up to par, I always thought Korg's sounds are more phat and Yamaha's are a tad thinish, not enough body. Not mentioning Kurzweil (different price range).
The 8 layers on the sounds make them sound so nice and bold, I just picked up the xs8 and I would never go back to my Korg allthough we did have great times together
Hi! I used to have a Korg once too, the Triton Classic, but sold because I needed the money back then. Now I want to get the xs 7/8. How does one afford something worth $3500? Did you have to get a loan?
You should definitely get the new korg m3. The Motifs are nice, which I have one but I also just got the korg m3 and it has 6300 sounds but you can change and make up to 73,000. (some crazy number like that) it can do soooooo many things as well, I just got it but so I'm still learning.
The M3 is ugly! The radias is okay, the XS is king. The only possible improvement they could make to the XS would be a touchview screen, but thats very trivial!
does anyone know if you need to have the motif hooked up to a computer/laptop with pro tools or some kind of recording program to makes songs or can you store sequences in the keyboard itself?
No to sound like an ass, but you really don't know this? It's a workstation. So no you do not need anything else to sequence or to store sequences. You store it right in the board. Same with the fantom, m3, triton etc etc. You can export your sequences either in wav or midi to further do arrangements and mixing.
I've seen him at a demonstration of the new Yamaha Motif XS-Synthesizer at the german music-shop "MUSIK PRODUKTIV". I've to say.. hes's really great! he know, how to handle 2 different yamaha-synthesizer at one and he do this in a funny, but interestig way. It was great to see him. hope next year he'll also be there.
I had an original Motif at my job for three years. It took me about a year to really learn how to record in patterns and make songs. I had to read manuals and use the forum, but it was worth it. I have a Motif ES and LOVE it. I can write a song in 30 seconds.
I just rented a Motif ES 6 for the month I have it home hooked up and I can't do nothing with it LOLOLOLOL what good is that ? If a keyboard player can't bring and instrument home and play it without manuals and Video's I consider it too complicated.
The NAMN show is off the hook! The whole convention center-every floor is packed FULL of music (all kinds of instruments A-Z), software, sound, lights vendors! -Music heaven!!! The whole 3rd floor was given to all grand piano vendors-all name brands. It was awesome! An. CA 'Every first of the year! It's meant for salesmen but check with ur music stores for a possible extra ticket to buy from them. Different music stars walk through all the time!
when is the rack gonna come out. them guitars and basses are no joke ! i have " real guitar " by music lab, and those spanish sounding ones, sounded better
the xs isn't that different from the es the xs has a color screen its more computer friendly more sliders and knobs better acoustics but personally I think the xs has alot of unessasary stuff and if anyone is planning on buying the xs if your not gonna use the sampling vocorder or all that computer shit get the es or the Mo trust me you wont be dissappointed
Thanx Bert,its so cool

I must say that I'm pretty disapointed with Yamaha the past few years. Another ROMpler workstation? *yawn*
From what I've read they've killed off the PLG expansions, too.
They're sitting on far too much great synth tech and it's depressing. I was at least hoping for a new VA.

Virtual analogue. Their AN1x/AN200/PLG150-AN was/is a great VA but an "AN2x" version with minor updates, cleaner filters, whatever would be cool.
