There are anumber of players who can kick from 50m, which is bloody far anyway, and besides there is far more to the game/a rugby team than being able to kick penalties. Sure they may decide the occasional game but all and all I'd much rather have a first-five who can read/control the game and kick from 50m eg Dan Carter

@Stagpalmy Thats true, when i was 15 i kicked a few from my own 10 metre line, my biggest kick (which did not go over )was from 62 metres i had a slight wind behind me it missed the right hand post by about half a foot and was 3 metres above the goalposts (which were admittedly not full size) i tried kicking with my friend at the pitches 7 years after i quit rugby and at age 27 i can barely make it from the 22 now

i reckon the IRB should move the goal posts back to the dead ball line, and the dead ball line should be a standard 10 metres behind the try line. they already did this in american football.

at least that way there wouldnt be a kick at goal every time there is a penalty around the halfway line.

or, they could look at the weight of the ball, and the type of kicking tee used.

Firstly, the officials don't raise their flags for "good effort". Secondly, the fact that the stadium is at sea level means the ball would travel less. Balls fly farther at high altitudes as the air pressure is lower. He's by no means the best player in the world but a pretty handy weapon with which to punish opposition mistakes from almost anywhere.

Penalty kicks, yes. If other teams arent good enough to counter attack then thats their problem. SA does score tries, it's just the other teams give them so many gaps they take advantage of them by punishing with penalties, the way a rugby team should do. People are just upset cause their team loses, by penalties or tries, they always have an excuse.
