I attended a John Powell discus camp back in the 1970s at San Jose State. During our final day at camp, we went into one of the office / workout rooms at Ernie Bullard field to study videos of the different throwers techniques- After watching Ben throw, John claimed that a few years before while they were at a practice, Ben let loose on a throw that went at least 260 + ft. Also, John claimed that Ben could easily squat over 1,000 lb. I never met him- I hear he was a kind person. R.I.P Ben.
Thank God he didn't waste that body and athleticism on football.
