  • Great onboard footage! We're broadcasting Rocket launches live for a new game from Intel and Dick Smith called turboboost touchdown. We're using 5 cameras + 2 onboard cameras and 9 different C,D and E sized fully decal'd rockets.

  • great Onboard footage!

  • "Houston, I can see my house from up here and its getting bigger all the time".

  • houston, we've got a problem!

  • haha-- its kinda weird to... fly away with such a speed´.. ive always wondered how cool it must be to be on such a firework rocket.. flying really fast.. you just need a parachute.. q;

  • and you need a really big firework rocket xD

  • true dat

  • Well houston, it's a nice day. Looks like everything is going grea...oh, oh God....we lost an engine...

  • err.. houston we have a problem doh!!! epic totally

  • Solid estes rocket fuel?

  • Yep, 2 Estes Ds ... see earlier comments for more details.

  • Houston we have lost the Starboard engine, I say again we have lost the starboard engine... put the kettle on...

  • 'put the kettle on... ' Nice touch, don't think anyone is gonna make it back for tea though.

  • Houston, we have a problem..kkrsschh (Radio silence)

  • Houston, heaven's nice.

  • kickass!!

  • ................wow

  • nice

  • HOUSTON,WE HAVE A PROBLEM

  • looks like the parachute caught on fire.

  • lol at the end its like houston we have expolded

  • That's cool!

  • very nice

  • lol looks like the space shuttle returning to atmosphere =P

  • what ever it did it kept going on one engine befor boom number two

  • Ummm. It EXPLODED?!?!?!

  • OH THE HUMANITY!!

  • OMG is that what it was ment to do, or did it blow up halfway?

  • Hey, that's really cool! Do you need anything special to ingite two engines at the same time?

  • Same igniters that come with Estes engines, just wire them in parallel, definitely not series. Just look up those definitions online. AND, check they're not broken or frayed. To make sure that there is enough power, I used a car battery and some jumper cables. It lit right away. You can use less power though, and I have cables for a 6 volt lantern battery that I use for most of my launches now. That gives reliable power for bigger engines, clusters, rocket races and single engine launches.

  • Thanks

  • really awsome :D

  • really awsome :D

  • Really cool slomo footage. Well worth the effort, IMHO.

  • So what would you recommend for use now. BTW - I'm not planning on a dual-clustered rocket at this point 8-)

    Thanks, Dave

  • Most digital cameras have a movie mode, you have to find one cheap, small and light. I'm working on a rocket with a small, no zoom fixed focus camera, again donated . You can get a wireless pinhole security cameras for $80, but you need a recorder. They're small and light and if the rocket gets lost, you still get the video. Live video will impress the crowd. A local computer store has them for 50 bucks, my next rocket will be flying one. For motors, it'll need at least 1 D or an E for a camera.

  • Not a bad burn at all, but looks like you had some issues towards the end.

Not bad at all. I have something to work towards it seems.

  • Wow!

    Nice burn!

That aint no estes. I love the spark motors.

  • that would be the parachutes deploying. also for the maker, what engines did you use. and are the estes engines?

  • The engines were 2 Estes D, one with 3 second delay, the other with 6. With the failure of the first 'chute, the second deployed right about impact time. Originally it was designed for Estes E engines, and the Ds didn't give enough room for safe recovery unless everything worked perfectly.

  • nice! but where that explosions on board?? 0:41

  • no it wuz the parachute deployer

  • ow ok. but why it deployed with fire?

  • cause they use a charge for it aswell..

  • wow that went high...

  • huston we have a problem! hihihih

  • I love the use of the term "donated".

  • Wew, that was awsome until the rocket burned to pieces. I have my video too, just type in gocolago33 then find rocket launch.

  • for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction newtons third law

  • haha oh god that was great you guys did a great job. send me the plans?

  • I'll get on that, with some mods. There were a few obvious problems, like exhaust heating the tail support. Also the intended engines, Estes E, were unavailable in Cananda, so it was underpowered. Probably not a problem now with smaller, lighter digital cameras. There is an eyeRocketII, which is substantially different, perhaps there will be more eyeRocket Ib's in the future.

  • ouch sorrrry about that model rocket was burn out

  • That was cool. I flew rockets back in the day - 1970's to be exact, and I always wanted to put a camera on one. Of course the cameras were the size of buicks back then.

I think it's time to get back into it now.

  • Good plan. I always wanted to build and fly, but it was October Sky and a birthday present that started this. You can get a tv transmitter and watch live now too.

  • yo was that a model rocket?

  • Thanks for all the great comments on our video. Glad to see people have enjoyed our miss-adventure. I've added two views of a the real Apollo 11 Saturn V launch to my favourites for every one to see. View them on the DavidianAndFriends.

  • What was that big ball of fire that came off? The engines coming out? Where can I get one of those cameras? That was FREAKING AWESOME though!

  • The big ball of fire is the lines that should have held the parachutes on. Note to myself - make sure they aren't flammable next time. The parachutes landed fine, the rocket...

The camera is a mini dv camera, one that had some serious problems - cause you don't normally shoot a good $1600 cameras 90 yards up.

    Glad you enjoyed it.

  • So what camera were you using?

    Thanks, Dave

  • It's a Canon MiniDV video camera. At the time they were about 1000 bucks, but this one had some issues, and didn't belong to me! Now they're a lot cheaper, but there are lighter and smaller cameras for the same job.

  • First stage separation succesfull

  • ENGINE FIRE FTW!!!

  • ooo we got a flame onboard!

  • Looks similar to the Saturn V, but without the sparks

  • Almost reminds me of Appollo....but your rocket probley reached the center of the full size rocket.

  • It just looks good. I'ld be lucky if it got to the top of the fins on a Saturn V. But yeah, it was a lotta fun flying it.

  • Whoa! Way cool! I hope the astronauts were OK! ;)

  • OMG that is sweet

  • Looks like you achieved the incredible altitude of oh, maybe 60 feet.

  • slowing it down made it more dramatic and made it seem like it shot furhter... lol
