the thing I don't like about female vocalists is that they always try to pop-ify everything. they turn every song into some sort of American Idol performance regardless of genre. it wasn't that evident here but just a hint of it. and the dude playing guitar could probably cover frusciante's vocals pretty well

Too much vibrato, and pitches going all over the place, like they're trying to show off the range of the voice rather than just sing? Maybe I haven't described it right, but I know what you mean haha. Similar terrible singing style is prevalent in teenage girls too - "indie singing" I call it.

Agree with guy being able to do Frusciante's backing reasonably well :) Obviously not at John's amazing standard though ;)
