Ah yes much better than the GN vid I just came from. It's more of a stocking filler than a masterpiece but I do sympathize with this 'grudge' type genre of ..... (industrial?) music which GN now seems to embrace so much .... it's so now.
you really think he's not using the guitar? you deaf? electric guitar can do various sounds, it's not always Judas Priest solos.. then again the synthetizers do the most job in industrial music :P that's why I love it!
I think it's fantastic that Mr Numan didn't just inspire a generation, but he actually took inspiration from the same people he fed. This is how music should work
not just that but its pretty much his 70's and early 80's sound with a dark feel to it really, hes doing what most modern artists are afraid to do with their genres they are in, moving forward. Numan has always tried moving forward, even when the music was crappy he chose to push on, but having a few bad apples in your catalog is the sign of a good artist imo, shows they are willing to branch out, sure you might lose and gain a few fans but hey you make music for you not other ppl
Why does he have a G-tar, it is for looks. Hwn most ppl think of a front man of Rock ( industrial) they think of a singer the can play a guitar, wear black , and maybe a lil eye make up. Kinda like Trent Reznor :P
Killer track - Numan paved the way for so many styles of music, (from electro styles to industrial metal) his early works were decades ahead of his time - his experimental sounds are always pioneering & unique. The Godfather of Synth.
Gary Numan is awesome! You'd be surprised at how many Goth and Industrial musicians and bands this guy has inspired. NIN, Ministry, Marilyn Manson just to name a few.
Immense tune, but would be nice if he actually bothered to play that guitar instead of throwing it about him and mindlessly strumming at well...nothing.
i like this particular song, but he used to be soooo much better..when i remember like stuff from TA then it's pretty sad. Everything he did in the 80s was just genious.

Seriously I play this full blast, I listen to a lot of metal and industrial and this is the track that makes me mosh like I don't give a fuck.
He's also a really nice and funny guy, his "interview" (/ chat among mates) with Noel Fielding was really funny.

LOL, 2008 Gary Numan sounds like NIN and 1990 NIN sounds like 1978 Gary Numan.

@uclajd This video came out in 2000, not 2008.
campoobutt 1 year ago
@campoobutt Actually it was made in 2002.
'Strictly speaking' Rip was not a single off the Pure album. Gary had a compilation in 2002 which the single is actually taken off.
