You are right Sean. We in Britain did only see the one side to it, which was the IRA bombing innocent civilians in Northern Ireland and on the mainland. As a result, the IRA became public enemy number one and were reviled. As a case in point, the record number of complaints on Top of the Pops was when one of the Manic Street Preachers appeared on the show wearing a military uniform and a balaclava. That was how strong people felt. Murders by Loyalists went pretty much unreported.
Again, that was a terrible incident Sean and should not have happened. The IRA had executed some members of the army in the lead up to it and soldiers (wrongly) took their revenge out on innocent people at Croke Park. As for Loyalist paramilitaries, some of the things they did were horrific and were the actions of criminals who used their "cause" as an excuse to carry out acts that they would have probably been doing anyway. I guess all sides involved did some truly terrible things.

It seems unlikely that all their nail bombs were exactly the same. There are conflicting stories about this but he was an IRA member so he wasn't a civilian. An IRA member carrying nail bombs seems more likely than british soldiers planting nail bombs on him.

Again, that was a terrible incident Sean and should not have happened. The IRA had executed some members of the army in the lead up to it and soldiers (wrongly) took their revenge out on innocent people at Croke Park. As for Loyalist paramilitaries, some of the things they did were horrific and were the actions of criminals who used their "cause" as an excuse to carry out acts that they would have probably been doing anyway. I guess all sides involved did some truly terrible things.

@tomd2103 the majority of attacks carried out by the P.I.R.A. came with a coded message so that innocent civilians could leave the area before the bomb detonated. Most civilians died because of mistakes. Dont get me wrong that is no excuse, every death is sad especially when it is avoidable. The british army, Black and Tans, The Auxies,R.U.C. and other such groups have repeatedly purposefully murdered many innocent people including women and children, and that is only in Ireland.

Also, is this just an anti-British thing or do you level such claims at other countries as well? Take the US for example. A very similar thing to Bloody Sunday happened at Kent State University in 1970 where soldiers opened fire on some students. They have also been involved in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Though for some reason 'Bloody Sunday' garners all the media attention.

It is believed the young man was searched for identification and no nail bombs were found, it was only after the car he was travelling in was stopped and prevented from going to the hospital that the nail bombs were noted on the person by british forces, and yet the bombs were not found when he was searched when he was shot.

@jonoessex the bombs found on the person in question were different to the type constructed by the I.R.A. the tape was white tape instead of black, they were larger than usual, the fuse was not constructed properly, the explosive substance was different to what was normally used and there was significantly more explosive used in the bomb than was used by the I.R.A. This in conjunction with no one finding the explosives on his person when he was searched, given the size of them, warrants doubt

@seanymo That is very weak circumstantial evidence for such a serious allegation. I would have imagined that the IRA used whatever tape was available. It seems unlikely that all their nail bombs were exactly the same. There are conflicting stories about this but he was an IRA member so he wasn't a civilian. An IRA member carrying nail bombs seems more likely than british soldiers planting nail bombs on him.
