I'd love to see that full skirt back in fashion for girls and early 20's women.
I love the music. It may not be 50's music, but it expresses the mood of the time and it makes the fashion feel modern and "hip" which is what it felt like at the time.
Its nice to spent a quiet Saturday afternoon being transported back to that time. It felt very modern to us children and my memories of the time still are of a modern, fresh exciting time, in no way "quaint" or "silly" to a 2011 mind.
I tried maknig many of these fashions when I was a girl. To my mother's disappointment and Mine they never looked as good on me as they did on the models.Looking at the pictures now I can understand more clearly one reason why that was so. Like all fashion, I guess , the models don't really represent real life bodies. I loved the fashion of the flaired skirt with lots of tuille petticoats underneath. Its the only fashion in my 61 years of life ( born in 1949 ) that really took my breath away.
I like your video - interesting: fashions from the 50s and 80s music. My own Youtube videos depicting 50s fashions and handbags as well as from other eras are indicative too that in those days, people truly enjoyed dressing up and looking elegant. Thanks for posting!
Love these clothes but although I understand the reasoning behind the choice of the song, there is such a strong association with the 80s that the music is distracting. It seems that a song such as "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" by Sinatra would not only be from the right era but would more closely express the truth of that time. It's really a great video, otherwise.
I love the video but hate the music. It doesn't fit in with the beautiful compilation you have obviously put in a lot of work to. I have downloaded but will keep the music off when I watch.
ok, I know why the 80's song with the 50's dresses!#1 we were coming out of the depression#2 Christian Dior had struck a new idea for womens clothing to have "MORE YARDAGE"(fuller skirts)than what we'd been wearing in the 40's what with rationing "points" being used for clothing we had to "make do & mend" we had a surplus of men's clothes since they were "ISSUED" their wardrobes we used their suits to make our dresses by the 50's we were out of the war & ready for,you guessed it: A new attitude!
I've been collecting vintage patterns for about 20 years and I love your video. I'm making several dresses from the 40's for my daughters.....They love vintage clothes too! I don't have some of those patterns that you featured and would love to get my hands on them!
Fun pix but why they cheesy '80s song? Wouldn't a 50s selection have been more appropriate??
Cause I liked it.........LOL....and I was the one doing it!!!! And there aren't many "Women's Songs" from the 50's..........unless it's about the Man that Got away, and none of those seemed appropriate to such a dynamic collection of visuals..
Man the fashion was fantastic, no other fashion period of the 20th century has surpassed this, makes you want to go into fashion design and bring it back to the world!
Thank you...........I am thinking about doing it again with the info.............maybe add to the tail end or something..........got another in the works...........
I found myself wanting the pattern info, too, at first. But you're right txbelle, it would have detracted from the prettiness. Thanks so much for this fun video!
It would be more informational that way, but not near as pretty..........and for this one I was going just for pretty........and fun. I have several informational pages on my website and there are about 100 more one the net.......and this was pure Eye Candy. But thanks for commenting and I'll consider that on the next one.

Women looked prettier in the '50s. Everything went slowly downhill after 1964, in my opinion.

My Mom wore clothes like this when she was young. So much style and class in 50s fashions. What went wrong !!!

Seriously the clothes probably weren't comfortable. To be fair there is still some pretty clothes out there.
