  • I trained gong bao tian bagua for 6 years and never saw any of these movements nor does this look anything like Bagua Zhang. :/

  • Hi @zanghi79,

That's not surprising. Many people have expressed this opinion. Bong Baozai grew up in Gong Baotian's family village and studied extensively with Gong Baotian's wife and daughter. So I think its pretty authentic. Would you care to disclose your sources?

    Thanks, Michael

  • @principledpower yea Ive studied from adam hsu's gbt style and spent some time with gbt kung fu grandson Ming Qian Bo in shanghai

  • So, my question is, how much of this translates into functional skill? A street fight isn't going to look like this, so is purely for ceremonial and tradition purposes?

  • Hi,

I'm sure you've probably viewed other martial arts 2-man fighting forms and had a similar question. Street fights will not look like this. I'd say that all traditional forms have a ritual component - that reinforces a style's identity - and a combat component - providing general fighting repertoires. Training and fighting are completely different activities. I elaborate more on this idea in "Tai Chi Power Pushing Vs Ba Gua Palms

  • @lukeman3000 no not at all. all of the moves in the internal heal & hurt mattering how you use them so you train the in-between technique is grater then strength chi is what you are trying to build up in training

  • ooooh! I wanna learn this! But I live all the way in Canada, and I don't know any places that teach this...

  • beautiful, ignore the dumb insults, takes real toughness too learn this way

  • this is the avatar this is this style martial art holy shit. i would not mind learning this at all.

  • nice moves!!!some movements, specially at the end looks very similar to wing chun movements, almost like doing chi-sao, is there any relationship between these two styles??? by the way , i practice wing chun.

  • oh ok sorry i didnt realize.

    sorry

  • It takes courage and integrity of character to correct oneself as you just did. Very impressive for a 14 year old! You're a good role model for older people.

    Thanks.

    Michael

  • This is stupid, in the time that they were just waving their arms around i would have just fucking punched him in the head. watch the point of that. you both look like tools anyway

  • This is a traditional Asian martial art form. Study of traditional martial arts entails far more than fighting.

  • is there anyone in indiana that can help me out? i've been practicing from the wang shujin videos but any bagua teacher nearby would be awsome to help me train and to explain things more clearly

  • I don't know any practitioners of this system in Indiana, but Richard (white top) is in Georgia, and I will be giving a ba gua quan workshop in Boston Sept 27-28, 2008. You are welcome to visit us in northern California. Agreed that videos are limited, but combined with some good workshops, a dedicated practice partner and perseverance, I believe it is possible to advance.

    Best.

  • haha wish i could come to boston, coincidentally happening the day of my 18th birthday as well, would be cool if i could, it would be an awsome gift to myself

  • The guy in the uniform must of had a lot of more practice with this, because he moves so smoothly. What type of martail arts is this? Is it something that has to deal with tai chi?

  • Richard (in uniform) has much more experience than the other two. The system is called ba gua quan (eight trigrams boxing), which is a blend of Daoist internal and Buddhist external influence. You can see what some of the forms look like on this channel.

    Thanks.

  • Thank you and no problem.

  • o ithot it was some form of wing chun

  • Baguaquan's moves such as piercing palm, generated out of waist and back trigrams, often resemble that of wing chun kung fu.

    Thanks for the observation!

  • you welcome and love the video if you know of a place i can learn that in houston texas please tell me id very intersted in learnin i rightr now am taking muay thai judo and brazillian jiu jitsu

  • I believe one of Gong Baozai's disciple lives in Houston. If you e-mail me I'll send you his contact info. Google my name to reach my website.

    ~Best

  • are there any possibilites to achieve this knowledge?

  • I posted this form in instructional format to offer this knowledge to anyone interested in studying it. Even though not in-person, I believe there is always something one can learn by watching.

    Thanks for your question.

  • That cool~ thank for sharing

  • The Leopard form by Master Lin Chaozhen (on your channel), though ending at movement 48 of 64 (Noble Ruler Offers Wine), is exactly the same as Gong Baotian's pao chui. Kwong64 states that Fu zhensong learned it from Ma Gui who either received it from Dong Haichuan or Yin Fu. This seems to offer evidence of ba gua's Luohan dimension. Gong Baotian transmitted it to Gong Baozai as ba gua quan's father form, containing all aspects of the system in symbolic form.

    Thanks for making contact.
