  • I know when I took the test, when it first came out, the pass rate was about 30% for a couple of years. I know that during that time they had a huge backlog and wait time. Then they had a number of evaluators drop out and there was a mad search for more "graders" . It was about that time the pass rate rose. I only know two professional interpreters who re-evaluated with the new NIC, the rest have kept their RID or NAD certs.

  • Shelly,

Did you get a reply from RID as to ratio of first time test takers to repeat test takers? That would be mighty interesting.

  • Repeat test takers make sense in terms of skewing the statistics.

Regardless, RID should break down the statistics into these types of subgroups to get a more accurate idea of how interpreters are doing. That way they would know, oh, the majority of this 81% is made up of those who have already taken and passed the exam, etc.

  • Hi TRG~

I did request the stats from RID...wait to see if they respond.

That would be great to see "repeat" testers vs. 1st time candidates. Thanks for comment! SH

  • What does the acronym "NIC" stand for, please? Thank you. Michael ~

  • NIC: National Interpreter Certification

  • Thanks, Rachel, I appreciate it. Michael ~
