  • The thing that I love is that 99.99999% of non-believer videos have commenting and/or rating enabled, while a very troublesome amount of theist videos do not. Quite telling is it not? Anyway, keep the legend of Hitch alive, and Hitchslap anyone in your way.

  • please resurect ! I miss you already

  • Hershi Ali, the first political refugee from Europe since 1945 who needs an armed guard to go about her business. Yet people still think that Islam is not a threat.

  • The audience has the giggles!

  • Whoops I just bought Hitch-22 from Borders. They're going out of business though and it was 70%, so I couldn't pass it up. Of course I didn't know that Borders pulled the magazine.

  • Cult subscribers find safety and security in their mass delusions, reflecting the herd nature of the human animal. As it is observed in our animal cousins, the instinct to follow the flock overpowers the need to critically analyze the overall mission and effect of the flock's actions. Just as sheep will follow each other off a cliff, homosapians follow each other into insanity; further evidence that we bear the stamp of our lowly origin.

  • Thank you for posting this, RationalResponse.

  • 30:00 to the end is simply devastating... This man is one of the greatest legends of modern times!

  • without free speech ur nothign but a prisoners of the things u cant express speech about

  • I love this speech i am wathcing this for the 4th time and still i can't get enough of Hitchens.

  • The commandment "love thy neighbour" is fundamentally meaningless. You can't choose to "love" or "like" or "feel affection" for someone. You can pretend like you do, you can act nice to someone, but you can't FORCE yourself to love someone. The Christians can act politely and they can force themselves to turn all the cheeks they want, but still they're not going to "love" the suicide terrorist that killed thousands. The command is meaningless and impossible to do short of electrocuting ur brain.

  • @Voiderify also in that commandment enters what hitchens refers to alot as god convicting you of thought crimes which if you believe that and are christian should scare you.

  • Hitchens' Biblical understanding is perverse and lacking. He may be an incredible journalist and astute writer, but he ought to leave his comments of theology our of his speeches. To anyone who knows it well enough is easy to see Hitchens' limited understanding. Of course he doesn't like the Bible. His life style isn't compatible with what the Bible declares rightfully as wrong. Being bi-sexual as he has so plainly stated as well as being a drunk reveals his motif. Don't be fooled, God is real

  • @gallantentry Oh, so we should all become religious because YOU say God is real? At least Hitchens provides arguments for his lack of belief, rather than just the words of an inconsistent book compiled by men hundreds of years ago.

  • @Enjorolla I'm not suggesting you take my word or anyone's word. Find the truth on your own and don't rely on someone who has little knowledge and understanding on the subject such as Christopher Hitchens. The Bible contains no inconsistencies as you arguably suggest. I do however agree with Hitchens that religion is dangerous, but true Christianity is not a religion...it's an intimate relationship with God. Hitchens' blasting of the Bible is all too giving.

  • @gallantentry So you believe homosexuals should be put to death just for being who they are? (Leviticus 20:13)

Or that children should be killed for swearing at their parents? (Exodus 21:17) Or that of all the good people in the world, only 144,000 jews will be saved during the apocalypse? (Revelation 7:1-8) Or are you one of those who say the bible is consistent, so long as you leave big chunks of it out, and only listen to Jesus's peace and love stories? (cont...)

  • @gallantentry You say not to take anyones 'word', but the problem with most religions (including yours), is that they take the word of one book (AND ONLY ONE BOOK) all too seriously.

  • @Enjorolla You missed my point altogether. Anyone who has a sinful lifestyle is naturally offended by the Bible. His motif is personal. I feel bad for Hitchens because he has missed the whole point of the Bible. It condemns so we can see our need for a Saviour not to hurt or to take anything away. Sin is wrong no matter who commits it.

  • @gallantentry 'Sin is wrong no matter who commits it. ' This is a tautology. Moses seems to get a lot of leeway.

  • @gallantentry

Excuse me sir, but mr. Christopher Hitchens is well versed in many religious text, including the new and old testament, the koran and the hadith. He has a very good understanding of their messages and what they contain. He has read these text extensively, visited many religious countries, debated countless religious scholars and front figures. I know religion well, especially christianity, and I'm sorry, you don't have veto rights - you're simply just wrong.

  • Get Well soon Christopher. We will miss you.

  • Morals of a flee ..

  • I suppose that the AA people have no interest in proselytising their beliefs?

If they do then they are going about it the wrong way. I know that in this lecture they are preaching to the converted but Hitchins, Dawkins, Dennet etc always come across as arrogant, superior and downright smug.

Now this may be simply because they are right and most theists are easy targets but you don't convince someone by laughing at them and ridiculing their beliefs.

  • Islam is a disease

  • Hi, all AA members, There is a cerveza in my frigo but i won't touch it!

"Awful sense of 'ennui.. ennui' this morning" he is a tad snob(ish) ol' Kris. Ain't he?

    "Teach Darwin inSunday school"

    BangkokJohny

    RDT

  • That was funny how he bagged mother Teresa like that lol "shriveled...old bat."

  • @LauraKathleen05 I'd be interested to know your problem with M Theresa? I thought she was someone who spent her life trying to help the poor and sick of Calcutta. I understand that some people took issue with her opposition to contraception and abortion. What is it about her that upsets you?

Is it because she looked at life through a religious lens. Does it matter what her beliefs were as long as she is actually doing something to help? I'd genuinely like to know. Thanks

  • @cupmyplums Its not only that she opposed abortion and contraception which could in fact prevent at least some of the poverty and suffering. She didnt actually treat any of the sick, she just had hospices where they could go to die. She should have put the money towards actual hospitals and doctors and nurses with qualifications instead of getting volunteers with no experience to do it.

  • @cupmyplums There is also her taking of money from disgusting people (Papa Doc of Haiti being one of the notable examples). Then there was the fact that she spent a great deal of the donations she received on Catholic political action around the world, like working to prevent access to contraception in the developing world and campaigning to prevent the secular Irish government from allowing divorce.

Then there was what Hitchens said:She wasn't a friend to the poor, she was a friend of poverty.

  • @Cenobite30 We must never forget the eternal message of mother Theressa, always moisturise.

  • @gamesbok rofl

  • I burst out laughing when I read the title of this video as, "Christopher Hitchens at AA"

  • @IamTHEredux Now THAT would take an act of god! And likely signal he end of days!

  • Since I have given up religion, my penis has grown 4 inches !

  • "At least you can fucking die in North Korea"

I've often thought that the emotional basis of atheism is often that absolute death represents the only relief they can imagine. And look at his facial expressions when he speaks of "torment me" @32.18. There is so much pain in this guy. (for the record, I am agnostic).

  • @andrewada

Well then you're spectacularly wrong. You make the mistake of treating atheism like some religion with universal precepts. The only thing that all atheists share is a disbelief of god.(and even this comes in varying degrees) Any other philosophical opinon is seperate from that disbelief and depends highly upon the individual making that claim. For instance, I don't look forward to death at all though I know its inevitable, and I don't think living forever would be a bad thing.

  • @andrewada What do you mean by absolute death representing the only relief they (atheists) can imagine?

  • I can assure you it hasn't. You will have formed some other psychological cocoon on some other level.

  • that cough must have been the early stages on his cancer..pr bugger

  • I love how Christopher Hitchens has enriched our language. I love the term, "religious businessman". So perfectly descriptive

  • I'm a third generation atheist. I'm so proud of my family :)

  • @ahmedeox lucky you.

  • @ahmedeox I am slightly jealous.

  • look at that sexy granny in the white around the 17 minute mark hehe

  • @mcm1345

She looks a little like Mary Steenbergen.

  • @CallumJStewart WHO IS THE GIRL FROM HOLLAND THAT CHRISTOPHER IS TALKING ABOUT IN HIS INTRO?

  • @maynordj Ayaan Hirsi Ali

  • My hero along with richard Dawkins and Sam Harris

  • its horrible to see him now fighting for his life he looks so different, half dead, the by product of chemo, not cancer ......god speed for want of a better phrase

  • "And they said, 'you can link them from your page,' which I DID!"

     Hitchens is the man!

  • As a straight male, I find that Christopher Hitchens has a lot of sexual appeal. If I were a woman I would definitely hit that. Just saying.

  • @benben42 Something tells me that's just an intellectual attraction. I seriously doubt that you would think the same if you've never heard him speak and only saw him walking down the street.

  • @MaritimeEast B

But isn't that what attraction is based on, power, intelligence, wealth looks dont come into it when u have one or all of the above..... if your genetic makeup has lead u to a position of power or money you will be attractive regardless of your looks

its genetics that makes an ugly person attractive not saying mister hitchens is ugly i can see what ben is on about

we're mindless slaves to our genes that make us think we have free will

  • @lyco46 You make a good point.

  • @lyco46 But then again he only said that the forementioned person wouldnt be attracted to Hitchens if he just saw him in the street. Also if Hitchens was dressed like that while walking down the street, I highly doubt that one would consider him to be a wealthy person with power or with high intellect for that matter.

  • @rubberbandman3rd thats irrelevant cause u do know which makes my point his attraction is purely based on his genes women or men in bens case are attracted to good genes regardless of what they are packaged in....

  • @lyco46 well the guy is now 61 years old and I don't think he himself cares about the way he looks too much. As a young man hell yeah, the guy could have got by fine with his looks he was quite a handsome guy. But writing is the guys life and he's a treasure to all and an enemy of ignorance and thats all I can say on the matter.

  • This is better than stand up.

In fantasy, I love to have seen Hitchens debate with Mohammed. Mohammed would have had Hitches head off in minutes. Just to stop his own humiliation.

  • @CorporalNym If you resort to beheading, you've LOST the debate over who's a better human being.

But if there could be an actual debate, meaning that only words were exchanged, Hitchens would show that he himself is a far more moral person than either Muhammad (raper of children, mass-murderer) or his brutal, childish douchebag of a god. Thank goodness He doesn't exist.

Keep your celestial dictatorship the heck away from me.

  • @ChollieD yes indeedy !

  • Comment removed

  • Irrepressible genius and wit ! A great man.

  • Hitchens is THE FUCKING MAN!...

    =3

  • Its strange because there are cartoons that depicted even more offensively than the Danish ones - Family Guy!

They have many gags about Muslims and terrorists and Islam in general!

The only treat they got was from Sarah Palin. :|

What is going one here - Muslims know obscure Danish cartoons but they don't see the internationally famous Family Guy?

  • @luarionte the hadith doesn't say you can't portray muslims, just mohammed.

  • I like Hitchens but he did duck the question that guy posed about evolution. After the guy was done speaking he immediately changed the subject.

  • @CainmosniMirrored

He is NOT a scientist! He doesn't need to answer nor do anyone should expect an answer!

Actually the question was rather pointless! It didn't matter the scientific accuracy to the point that he made!

So it was a NERD question!

  • Comment removed

  • @CainmosniMirrored That's because there is no real question in what the guy is saying. He was just rambling.

  • When he is gone, I will cry.

  • Would the poster of this video correct the bookstore mistake earlier by text overlay? A few people no doubt miss the correction several minutes later and its an important one. shame on borders! I have noticed their book selection was corrupted and they dont believe in free speech.

  • I wish we could've seen her face that beginning

  • I always thought the same thing about heaven: "Eternally praising an authoritarian leader? Sounds like Hell."

  • Hitchens is the best!

  • such quality,christopher hitchens.

  • 1:00 The educated equivalent of "No homo."

  • Christopher Hitchens is one of the main reasons I dropped that bag of bricks called religion and moved on living my life, not waiting for my eternal life to begin..... Thank you Christopher.

  • @Jason29n actually catholicism demands in part that you do just that....

  • i really hope he gets better :'(

  • "they wish to be martyrs, ok im here to help" - classic.

  • really pisses me off when it's ment to be questions and people try to do a lecture of their own!

  • @smutyhouse I asked Richard Dawkins about that one time at a bar after a lecture in Minneapolis. I wondered if there was a prisoner;s dilemma about it. We want to live in a world where jackasses don't hog the camera time trying to debate the speakers but we still do it. To my surprise Dawkins gave me a kindly serious answer despite my stupid question.

  • At 8:30 Hitch begins a marvelous chronicle. He starts out by asking RD how long our species has existed on our planet. The only thing missing ( and I had hoped Christopher would've mentioned them) was a dozen or so names of various WELL-known theists/deists who have already openly conceded the known facts of evolution. It would've only furthered his central point. Still, Hitch is a gifted speaker and later in the Q& A he's polite, which he's often accused otherwise.

  • God I want to Party with Hitchens!!

  • @ChaoticChris5150 hahaha! i dont think anyone could keep up with his amazing capacity of scotch intake!

  • @aguteempasil ROFL I agree!

  • @ChaoticChris5150 I think God want to party with Hitchens aswell....

  • @ChaoticChris5150 Me, too.

  • that bloody flashing!!!!!

  • Go read Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book. It starts slowly, but it is amazing once it gets going. I learned a great deal about Islam and the west. Everybody in the west should read it.

  • Ayan Hirsi Ali is one of those rare people I'd lay down my greedy life for.

If atheists had saints, she'd be our Joan of Arc.

  • so grandiose! Christopher Hitchens kills me :)

  • No, he's saying ennui. It means boredom.

  • ahh, thank you. Learn something new every day.

  • I see I'm happy I'm not the only one who didn't understand what he was saying.

he woke up with... enwee? huh?

  • Ennui.

    --

  • i woke up in enwe and closed my potamic and called my metors!!! what the hell is he talking about!!!! wats an enwee!! i agree with the rest though!

  • Gasp! Ayaan Hirsi Ali's turned him into a big fluffy teddybear.

  • If u knew her she d make the same with u!

  • since i've given up religion all my brain has grown back.....

  • Comment removed

  • @lyco46

    BAHAHHAHA! Piss funny.

  • @lyco46 It's true. I am an architect and believe me we don't know much science. But since giving up faith is God I have been reading 2 books/week about science to the point where a PHD from Cornell asked me if I was a scientist, since I seemed to know so much. Once you give up this belief in God you want to know about the real universe.

  • @lyco46 Welcome back m8!

  • @lyco46 Since I given up my brain religion has moved in.

  • @lyco46 lol

  • Ive played chess better simce ive become an atheist. Religion really did poison my game

  • After rejecting the whole notion of religion I have noticed myself to be more objective, better at listening to others and less angry at different opinions.

Religion really is a mental imbalance, I mean like what would you label a person who thinks he/she has an invisible friend that he/she talks to everyday and maybe even think about every hour... To be blunt that person would be labelled as mentally ill.period.

  • @MrOnatopial Me2..me2..but i did not play chess

  • @MrOnatopial You know where they don't play chess?? IN HELL! Oh, sorry. Reflex. I'm only recently opening my mind to reality. Still new. Seeing intelligent people speak about this is so amazing. I feel so liberated in a way.

  • @MrOnatopial You realized that the bishops aren't all they seem huh?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrOnatopial WHO IS THE GIRL FROM HOLLAND THAT CHRISTOPHER IS TALKING ABOUT IN HIS INTRO?

  • @ABAisSCIENCE Your Noah fairy tale was borrowed from a Poem call "Gilgamesh" that was written 3.5 k years in Ur nowadays Irak . that was way time before ur bible took it from the Summerians. Look for it, and learn some history dont follow like a sheep. question ur believe.

  • @nikur, the thing is just because something was written down first or is dated as older does not mean it is older than the oral passing down of another story. Job is older than Genesis for author, but obviously Genesis is writing down the oral stories of others that predate Job. Question is why does Muhammed praise the Sabean in his Quar'an when Job is persecuted by the Sabean in Job 1:15? Why do the Chaldeans kill Job's servants in Job 1:17 and kill Haran for following an "Iscah" or observance?

  • I really love Hitchens, i can see why theists might dislike him, as he does seem to be a bit of an intellectual snob, but thats no reason to dislike him! I know alot of abrasive people, but i still hang out with them.. i dont think you can like absolutely all of a persons personality!

  • "Under the cover of religion, there's no stupidity than can't be explained."

    Great stuff.

  • great vid, go on hitchens tell the people how it is, educate the blind plz....

  • This video won't load for me for crap.

  • Hitchens and his dry british wit, I love listening to him speak.

  • fuckin love hitchens!

  • Yeah he's brilliant so good to have a guy like him on your side !

  • It should be a compliment if a woman is thought of as a milf and simply a personal preference that she is thought of not as such by you.

I think she has looked quite attractive in tv appearances I have seen her on, though shes not my type.

But while I do disagree with her on things, I do think shes beautifuly intelligent.

  • After my previous, rather sexist posts, I think I owe it to everyone to state the obvious... Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an extraordinary person.

  • if its sexist to talk about women in terms of their looks then sexism is not a bad thing at all.

You can consider a person sexy or ugly and still have respect for the person.

It is natural for man to think sexually of women just like women do of men. Its necessary for the survival of man, its hormonally driven.

Do not feel guilty that you considered her looks aside from her intelligence.

I saw your comment as an aside, an observation.

But I forgot that she had kids.

  • God some people just ask the stupidest questions, they can ask a question a minute in a half long, use as many big words as they can, but it means absolutely nothing. So many people who consider themselves "intellectuals" are like this, they love using phrases like "reconcile this" "open a disource with that" "produce a dialogue", the only certainty in life is that people love being the centre of attention and hearing the sound of their own voice.

  • man I hate the people in university lectures and talks like this who feel the need to start laughing out loud every time the speaker says something that could be construed as the tiniest bit funny or clever! I always remember this it was so sad these people who forced themselves to make a big noise just as if the professor is watching them personally to make sure they give a positive response.

  • What's en Juin mean? Anyone know?

  • ennui: n. a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction

  • buying the book.

  • His description of `Mother`Terisa is SPOT ON.

This guy talks the talk, and walks the walk!!!!

  • don't like prudish little man in audience and his middle class rant. if he looked at gangsters and other jailbirds he might find out that lots of gangsters and jailbirds are also big jay zuss freaks.

  • As much as I love Professor Hitchens.. .this might come out vulgar but who's the MILF with black hair????

  • I was thinking the same thing! :D

  • Ayaan Hirsi Ali

  • If you look up Ayaan Hirsi Ali on wikipedia, the photo shows a rather non-MILF person. Not the hottie in this video.

  • yeah she does that.

  • I just saw the clip of Ayaan speaking at the same event here as Hitchens. She's not bad looking. But she's not the hottie here in this clip in the white dress.

  • i love hitchens hes work is brillant so is hirsi alis reading her changed my life

  • I've used the 'Hitchensian' logic to combat Opus Dei religion teachers in a debate..it works!!! they have memorized religious talking points and don't know how to think dialectically.

  • While a knighthood is certainly desevered I don't think the queen will because it would be look like giving george bush the nobel peace prize

  • I dare say that Mr. Hitchens would refuse such an honor from the head of the Anglican church that pilfers tax payer wages to minister to her flock.

  • One question, WHEN THE FUCK IS THE QUUEN GOING TO KNIGHT THIS GUY ????? HE IS AWESOME !!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome is an understatement!

  • Hitchens can't be knighted. He's a US citizen as of about two years ago. He's ours now.

  • Hitchens despises the royal family and has a deep dislike of prince charles...

  • Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf was knighted by the Queen despite the fact that the U.S. Constitition says (in part) that: "No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State."

Fuck the Queen. God save Christopher Hitchens!

  • akamola: you don't listen to Hitchens much do you? He surely wouldn't kneel before the Queen.

  • I could not understand his "que ee dee" (phonetic) that he said was worth passing on.

could someone please help me? thanks!

  • Hitchens means "q.e.d.", which is a Latin phrase that stands for "quod erat demonstrandum", which means "that which was to be demonstrated".

  • thanks!

...but i was also wondering if anyone could explain the q.e.d. that was worth passing on. he finishes it up around 12:20 minutes... something about resurrection?

  • I will take a shot at it, although I am probably way off base here.

God's design or plan is supposed to be perfect. The hypothesis of resurrection and virgin birth can not be true. Even if it IS true, it is either a dumb design or a bad one which means it can not be perfect. QED

  • alright, well it's good to know i'm not the only one not completely certain on this one.

what you said makes sense to me. thanks for the help!

btw, i'm glad someone by the handle 'lucidatheist' helped on this one.

  • Incidentally, Q.E.D. can also mean quantum electro dynamics. Context will obviously help you decide which Q.E.D. is being referred to.

  • q.e.d. is a latin abbreviation for quod erat demonstrandum which means as much as "what was supposed to be proven"

  • 18:05 Dose any one know of a link to the CNN segment he refers to? I've already tried looking, and can't find it.

  • It used to be on youtube but I didn't find it. I just found this clip about "Islamophobia" with the same guy : watch?v=2QsCdnwx6q8

The name of the guy is I. Hooper, his job is the non-violent part of jihad, watch him lying.

  • Hmm. Yes. Ibrahim Hooper is a part of CAIR, a silly advocacy group that for Islam. A radio host that I listen to hast to talk to them every once in a while if he criticizes Islam.

The search for the clip continues. If I find it I'll post it here.
