  • Jeff later when on to co-host Myth Busters.

  • cool

  • I like that dude.

  • I just had a smile on my face the whole time watching this video. What a great guy.

  • haha. combination drum and musical instrument. reminds me of that joke, "what do you call a guy who hangs out with musicians? the drummer" :-)

  • forget about videos by Paul Gilbert or Yngwie Malmsteen: guitar players need to learn from men like Jeff Baxter.

  • what ONE person dislikes this? i mean seriously

  • Hi Skunk! Simi friends. Miss your jams w/ Rawls. RIP Lou. Keep on Jeffrey!

  • Sage advice from a master.

  • ....then worry about the hammer-on and the hair extensions.

  • Every freak out, platinum selling artist that does that Clear Channel garbage should be bound up and forced to watch this entire series for weeks straight!

Rhythm and Blues now stands for Robotic and Booty! I HATE it! It's ugly, gothic, repetitive and a complete waste of studio time!

  • Have loved Skunk Baxter since hearing the first Steely Dan tracks.

  • If he were your neighbor, you'd certainly never have to worry about missile attacks.

  • This is massive stuff...! :-)

  • WOW great advise ! this is priceless for musicians

  • Man, I wish he were my neighbor.

  • A true master!

  • Huh Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters has a twin.

Jeff Baxter great technical guitarist, know's his stuff from all areas of music. I'd say he's probably one of the worlds best guitarists.

People who don't listen to the blues miss out on so many good guitarists The general impression of blues is one style with a harmonica, but theres so many styles of blues that branched off into rock and roll, then rock and you can hear it in many styles of music

  • I like his advice 3:00

  • This guy ignored me at the NAMM show 2009....ME!!!!!

  • @Snotra You aren't the only one. I worked with a guy who went to a NAMM show decades ago. He tried to ask Jeff a technical question re: his acrylic guitar only to have Jeff cuss him and and walk away.

Don't get me wrong; I totally respect Jeff's playing and his intellect, but personally, he is too much of a right winger for me.

  • I never knew Hulk Hogan could play guitar....

  • Here's a guy who knows what he's talking about

    AND

he also knows how to say it in a way even I can understand it.

    THANKS!

  • This video needs to be watched by ALL aspiring guitar players!!

VERY IMPORTANT info as illustrated by the Great Jeff Skunk Baxter

  • Wow... This is excellent!

You don't even have to want to know how to learn how to play guitar to appreciate this series.

    Peace

  • Jeff's perspective of rhythm guitar is a big inspiration for a guy like me: middle-aged, self-taught (with probably some bad habits) but a good ear, & a little discouraged in the way that I feel I've progressed as far as I can.

  • HOLY SHIT IS THAT A CLEAR GUITAR?!

  • Redefines "clear coat"

  • So good....

  • The rhythm part of this vid (imo) is a "must see" for all guitar players.

  • Does he ever wear his hair down? O_o

  • This is why youtube is a great thing. To click on and get it from Mr. Baxter is unbelievable. Anyone who wants to get somewhere take heed, this man knows a little to say the least.(Pun intended)

  • A master of popular music shows us how it's done! Great tips for anyone who wants to get work - to paraphrase "forget the shredding for a minute guys and get the solid rhythm guitar happening!"

  • Fabulous musician!...very wise words emphasising the rhythmic qualties of guitar playing-so often overlooked...Get The Simple Groove Right...the rest is icing...

  • 2:26 this guy is no juke. Amazing guitar player and seems like a down to earth guy.

  • jeff steelydan

  • He's talking about Steve Cropper... Blues Bros and excellent studio guy ..has played with just about everybody in the business...

  • Steve Cropper: "Mustang Sally" (I think) etc mymusicdiscovery. c o m

  • I believe "Mustang Sally" was recorded at Mussel Shoals (Jimmy Johnson) not Stax (Steve Cropper).

Cropper's best work is probably "Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding and "Soul Man" by Sam and Dave.

  • Also, Booker T. & The MG's.

  • Whos is he talking about in 7:00 Steve something? :P

  • yeah. he is amazing.

  • every guitarist should watch this.

  • Skunk Baxter = cool.

  • Skunk Baxter = cool.

  • COOL!! Thats a Roland GR-500 synth guitar with a plexi body!!!

  • Happy Birthday Jeff =)

  • you have been and still are a great influence on me. thank you!

Any idea where to find an Epiphone Jeff Baxter model?

  • Thank you very much Mr. Baxter. I'm a huge fan, and this is a very edifying video.
