DJs(and I use that term loosely) like this guy are no more then a sleight of hand illusionist. Any halfway descent DJ could do that routine with specially made vinyl. Why not just let them battle with Serato.
you can tell he was influenced by dj klever...i've been battlin for yrs. and seen many styles...he's a klever clone...keep doing you, i guess...peace...dJ Revenge!
all the sounds on the records are made to create the illusion of profusion and technique but for any djs that now basics beat juggling movements, you will see that it is not so great... and the musical taste are not really good for me... powder for the eyes.
It's the problem with the pre made records with double kick, delays already on it.
I prefer to see guys like P-Tricks in the 90's making inovative tricks with vinyl not made by him specialy for a competition and the results was more musical.
HAHA I like how you can see Netik in the backround, this guy just bit Netiks style completely . watch netik 2006 and u'll see what Fly is trying to imitate
definitely a unique style of mixing!! i don't know what some are tripping about, saying it's "too technical"...when a dj lacks skill, they suck, and when they have too much skill they also suck?? doesn't make sense...skills are skills, and his style deviates from the typical hip-hop beats we are more used to hearing, but that doesn't mean it's not appreciable
I find it funny how these djs from all over the world who speak all different languages. Still pick mostly the hip hop samples from the U.S. haha Gotta love it
To be honest with you, I'm not really into these new "techno sh*t" mixing alot of the dj's are doing nowadays at all. very fast, but then what the hell they doin, aint got not soul.
I 'm nostalgic for those 90's oldschool flava routines, where dj's have musicality, and you feel like the routine is an "art". Those times were good.
DJ Fly is very skilled in his fader movements. What think is missing though, is the other skills - like being able to utilise standard vinyls in new ways, which was one of the things I loved from the old days of DMC.
This is just like comparing a boring drag race to world touring car curcuit racing, yes the drag racers have more power but the touring drivers have 10 times more skills.
@philecops ouai, ça dépend des passages, faut aimer le style, mais faut reconnaitre que desfois ça ressemble à rien. Même si il est troisième son set est par moment un peu moyen surtout si on compare avec celui qui l'a rendu champion
a bit messy here and threre but hey i can barely scratch i agree that it would be nice to see djs changing the records once in a while rather than preparing samples on 2 or so records he has got some skills though i hope we see more
don't get me wrong. this guy got skills. but he really got some timing problems. i don't say, that I could do it better, but especially the beginning is kinda annoying because he doesn't stay in beat. i know, it's not easy mixing those drumnbass-tracks...but dmc is about perfection...and it's simply NOT perfect. still gotta admit, that this guy got ill skills.
What about the crowds, for christ sake? What about the freakin listeners, damned!
You can have all the skills you want. BUt what if nobody dance to your shit? Look at all this shitty crowd. People don't enjoy this mothafucka anymore.
yeah "turntablism" is a subculture of djing that some people enjoy, die hard fans pay good money to watch and be entertained. im sure dont they come to dance. beside, scratching and juggling is a great technique to acquire to incorporate in your mixes, this will differentiate you from other djs that think they have skills. If we're worried about a non-dancing crowd, then we can give em mix cds and nightclubs with djs that do transitional mixes.
There for i still dont understand why you compare DMC 2008 with Old school thing
the times change and the music too
The Turntablism have changed alot since last time just compare how Qbert do it in 1991 and win making just some freaking noise and now it will be useless becouse we must progreess and make some new stuf
If you cant find the music in vinyl you make it...its simple
I dont like the thing that the DMC put Digital system for Team battles and Hope they never put it in Supremacy and DMC
fuck all that bullshit, custom or not, u still need skill to pull off the tricks, people thinks that jugging is easy or something, not to mention dj craze won 3 champion in a row with custom records, so did many of the champions, so stop that bullshit hating, all the real turntablist know what i'm talking about.
I agree though, custom records just make it more amazing. Like there is not much room for improvement with the basic set... So it has got to come from somewhere... At least turntablism got better over the years, unlike freaking hip hop music which is just wasted by now.
of course djs use battle records but what im talking about is netik rafik jfb and whoever else they come up with a set and put everyting in order so they dont have to take the needle off the record, when craze compete he would switch dif records and he not only used battle records but reg records too the only real last turntablist that used real records throughout the whole dj set was dj precision and used real hiphop songs not this computer fruity loop bullshit beats
Completely agree...it seems as if the dmc has lost its authenticity cuz I remember the good ol' days where djs would kill it using records...these new kids have skills--don't get me wrong, but just watch the older dmc vids, like with Craze, A-trak, Mr. Thing, etc and you'll see what I'm talking about...
and thank you for being a follower and on that trend bullshit that everybody else follows and its cause of people like you that shit is so bad out there right now
without progress you would still run around with a bone in your nose. by the way what makes scratching itsself so diffrent if you use digital vinyl system for example? you still have to do the same scratching stuff and changing a vinyl does not cost more time than changing a mp3..
rebootyourmind the point is why cant dmc stay true to its roots dont allow fuckin digital shit at your battles plain and simple it takes more skill to use vinyl than digital its just does digital always ruins the pure artform of things the last person i saw use a true vinyl set at the dmc was dj precision from ill insanity now thats how its done and they were hiphop beats not this futuristic fruity loop popcorn beat shit.
now, i'm not denying that fly has skills, but some parts of this routine are faked. the first is at 1:10 and it's the fade-in scratch. notice that, while he's acting like he's fading the sound in gradually, he's fading it up to full volume, so the fade is on the record. the feedback routine at 5:35 is also fake. eclers don't sound like that when fed back, and the control over the pitch isn't that precise. also, at 6:00, the sound gates several times without him touching anything.
At 1:10 he only mute with faders the sound and full volume Kick and Snare...
At 5:35 its not fake its just send-return to the mixer...if your a litlle smart you see a Mic conected and a aux in conected too...thats send-return that make that arpagiate and sound like that...and doesnt mather what the fader do...
So before saying its fake...get informed i got Ecler 360 and i do that "Fake" thing you say...
@fourenginesout yea dude i agree i never really watched his hands more like enjoyed the music but the you pointed that out and i caught it...... but ya hes skilled but faking some of it like you said
@fourenginesout something to think about notice that it is not one continuous shot. so whoever dumbed the audio over to the shots messed up not dj fly. now im not saying that he is 100% perfected but this set right hear is real.
@fourenginesout Are you blind? It's not faked when he's upfading he's doing it on the other deck to cut it in and out, not to "fake" the fade in, and you're seriously trying to judge the Ecler's feedback from YouTube?
Get your facts straight fourenginesout how are you about to say this routine is faked when it clearly ISN'T? You're trippin it would be reasonable for you to remove your comment man!
