  • im the same body type as marcelo and i fukn love x guard i sweep higher belts with it alot its a very underestimated and powerful guard...awesome vid!

  • Yes master thank you

  • Marcelo's English got much better

  • 2:00

  • Rolled with a Division 1 all american wrestler last week, he had 60 lbs on me. This was the only move that worked against him. To all you guys who say this move puts you in danger from punches. This is not a camp out, before you can get X guard hooks your opponent is already off parallel with you pretty much eliminating all punches.

  • @VegasDailies i feel like xguard works great against pure wrestling

  • im still a white bealt 7 months in, i dont know how the hell it happend. but i recovered from side control and was in an open guard, the other guy was trying to pass while standing, and, again, idk how but my legs and feet just fell in the right place, i grabed his leg, did what marcelo did , and boom the guy went flying. i was like what. lol he was also suprised ( higher belt) he was like wow ur working on ur x guard. i was like " My What" lol and it brought me to this video. lol.

  • @Brynny211 did you get your blue belt yet?

  • psshhhh try to stomp or punch or whatever marcelo u gonna get sweeped...idiots...im pretty sure the p4p jiu jistu fighter in the world knows what hes talkin bout

  • Yeah, the x-guard SEEMS to put you in a vulnerable spot, but you are seriously so off balance. This guy who couldn't have been more than 150 pounds was showing me x-guard, and I was ridiculously off balance and swept easily, and Im like 220 pounds. There's no way I woulda been able to punch or stomp without falling flat on my ass.

  • @oomanny3oo you're right but pridefc they could stomp. take shogun for example. but they couldn't elbow strike a grounded opponent, which my first reaction would be to defend the x guard at least in a street fight.

  • @EarnanOMaille erm it has everything to do with position! in order to get full X gard you would have to expose your head, which is not the brightest thing to do when your opponent is wearing 4oz gloves. x guard, the same as many other moves in ju jitsu seems like a difficult technique at first, but with practise it becomes easy to execute.

  • I love jiu jitsu i breath, eat, and shit jiu jitsu.

  • @bobblurp i have jiu jitsu dick and cum, will suck it and gargle my JJ cum?

  • @nicoyanicoya you must really love jiu jitsu to gargle your own jiu jitsu cum

  • @bobblurp lol

  • this is some advanced shit

  • MMA and X-Guard. The technique definately works in MMA but the issue that you will run into is the same as in Jiu-Jitsu. If you fail to break your opponents base in MMA or in Jiu-Jitsu you will miss. If you dont break his base in MMA then your head is definately exposed. Your opponent can drop to his knees and reign blows into your face. If you miss in Jiu-Jitsu then you just miss the sweep.

Another point to be made is that without a GI there is a higher percentage chance that you will miss.

  • @jmendiola1 I respectfully diagree, I use it quite often and there is equal chance at escape if you fail to rock their base,.

  • jacare is in mma now this guard works ive been in bjj for 4 months and we starting working on this right away

  • Fupper16 x guard doesnt work in mma because in order to complete the techique you need to expose your head. at 1:20 you would have hour head taken off with an elbow/hook just as you're starting to set up the sweep.

  • @ct7320 You clearly have never been put in X guard and Marcelo was going in slow motion so he could demonstrate it better.

  • @jagexisthedevil i find myself in x guard 2 to 3 times a week, either in it, or holding someone else in it. its an awesome ju jitsu technique. not such a good mma technique. if it was effective for mma, we would see it more. im saying its not effective for mma so CLEARLY i have no idea what i am talking about detective jagex.

  • This is a good strategy to use against wrestlers or anyone who has a good base, but may play a little top heavy. A wrestler's strength is in their base and posture. Take that away, and you'll gain a significant advantage.

  • Why does no one use this guard in MMA? I think this is a great alternative to takedowns; you can pull guard and then do all this shit

  • Because noone in mma has the same level of jiu jitsu as marcelo garcia. Demian maia pulls guard quite a bit. I've seen aoki do it also.

  • @Fupper16 x guard doesnt work in mma because in order to complete the techique you need to expose your head. at 1:20 you would have your head taken off with an elbow/hook just as you're starting to set up the sweep. also this starting position is very unnusual for mma. no one 'sits' with their head up / leans down standing with their head down.

  • learned this position today/ Probably best guard ever, I tryed getting it from halph guard and side control works great, I think its even better than deep halph! need alot of practise to master it.

  • u are so off balanced in this guard

try to punch and you will be swept

  • @kingshahine You don't even have to throw a punch to be swept, A lot of people under estimate X gaurd

  • x gaurd is definatly tricky in mma, but renzo once showed us that u always have the option of kicking someone in the face when he crouches down to punch us. Marcello's x guard is amazing!!

  • I think some aspects of the x guard could be highly effective in mma, the thing is you have to be extremely well versed in it and extremely fast, it takes a hell of a lot of practice to master

  • A highly effective guard. To most people, this looks ridiculous, because obviously you can get punched in the face, but most people also do not realize how little balance a person has inside an X-guard. I am no expert in this position, but when I was showing a friend of mine, who is bigger and stronger than me, some positions in BJJ, he laughed and said this guard wouldn't do anything. Needless to say, as soon as he finished speaking, I sweeped him to all fours and easily got to his back.

  • thats what alot of people dont realize, you're not going to just lay there, and stay in this position, its like "stances" in karate...they're transitional, not fixed positions

  • X Guard once you have mastered it and used it many times in sparring is one of the best dynamic guards out...And nobody in MMA today trains it enough like Marcelo for it to be successful, I guarantee you could get your opponent off balance quick enough to not take much damage at all...Cant wait for this weekend goin to my first Marcelo Seminar at Jeff Curran's Gym in Crystal Lake, IL. !!! CHEAAAA

-Much love from Naledge & *DIESEL BJJ*

  • @chicagoknowledge , Yea , I'm goin to Marcelo's seminar in Memphis, TN this saturday before UFC 107.

  • x guard is great i use x guard all the time, but for mma i do not use x guard never have never will.

  • it depends on the guy's game... marcelo game is the x guard, minotauro game is the close guard, some people the half guard...

  • Eddie and his Rubber Guard

  • Not really mang, do you even fight? Or have ever used or been in the x-guard? It's a VERY powerful guard.

  • i think you're right though, x guard is meant solely for grappling.

  • X-Guard is a excellent guard for MMA. Alot of people think the guy on top can punch at will, and he can, but after one or two strikes he's gonna get swept. If your in somebody's X-Guard, you better focus on getting out. X-Guard is the best guard out there, especially for MMA.

  • The only bad part is that your opponent can stomp your head with some clever footwork.

  • not legal in the usa.

  • I agree. This is definitely not BJJ 101, anyone using the X-guard is absolutely experienced enough to sweep you as soon as a punch is thrown. Stomping? Not allowed in any of the MMA circuits i've seen, but lifting one foot would make you even MORE susceptible to the sweep.

  • @oomanny3oo I think youd be suprised at just how exposed the chin of alot of upper belts are.

  • love the technical sweep but he takes forever to explain the technique.

  • YES!! I was thinking the same thing.
