there is two screws on the dvd laser you just keep adjusting left one till it reads thats wat i do i have done it on 3 xboxes lol buy them for 20 sell for 100

lol the weirdest thing happend to me, i bought an xbox used from friend for very cheap (the elite editoon) and the disc tray didnt work. so im like well, fuck. and then my father comes in the room and just preses the tray ooppen butten and it opens. when i pressed the button it didnt. lol my dad is my hero. :D so its fixed for now.

Just did a similar fix, and it does work but I would recommend while u have it open, clean your laser off a bit while your at it as I did, & my Xbox is working great now.

thanks for the post...I did this step by step but it only worked for me once. the game started up and worked great. then, when I put it back together, I got the error again. the piece I glued is still there, so Im not sure what the problem is. I start the xbox with the laser all the way back. any idea why it wont work anymore? thanks again

you know if it wasn't for the damn system update back in may i could be fucking playing reach right now! i spent my whole fucking summer trying to fix my xbox and i can't i really cant cuz the rubber on the spinner thing is just worn off so it wont be able to hold onto disc even if it spun so im going on amazon and getting a replacement for 30 or 20 bucks

maybe someone here can help me. my laser moves the worm motor works. ive strengthened and cleaned the laser, ive greased the rails on worm motor. idk what to do now. i cant buy a new hard drive cuz i dnt have a sata drive to flash it. suggestions or a solution would be much appreciated

Nice lad,I'll try this myself in a few hours. I always thought mine was caused by dust(in my case, soot from the living fire that escapes when its windy) settling on the lense.

Had you your Xbox repaired by Microsoft previously? I had 3 red lights,but when they sent it back they claimed that they fixed both the red lights and the DVD drive,something that was working fine up 'til then. Ever since I got it back from Microsoft(3 years ago) I've been having the open tray error,but only often now.
