One of the amazing things I love about Pavarotti is that when I hear him sing, it seems so obvious and easy. And then I hear others sing or I try myself...
@machngunjoe because opera singer, whether they are big or small all train their lungs to be as endurant as any proffessional athlete's maybe even more-so because opera requires that if you are going to survive any opera, even easier ones, because you are not miked which means you can't really rest too much.
@machngunjoe Because when he was about 10 years younger, He was a soccer player. And a tenor too. Sports and singing have a great similarity, that is breathing! If your breathing is Wonderful, then You can have an amazing endurance in Opera! Though I must admit that when he was still Fit, He was more superb than in his Fat figure. But still, he was superb whether he is fat or fit. =)
@MusicalTenor23 - I agree, his voice did not suffer from his growing avoirdupos, but I would have liked him to stay slimmer. He was so handsome. Now the voice, OMG the dynamic range, the control of gorgeous pianissimos, and listen to how he opens into the high note (an A?) at the end of the ascending line at 1.18. His tone stays bright despite the fact that this kind of vocal line is so hard to navigate without choking. Just magic.
@sopranosd you know what.. I believe that when a person loses his weight, it affects the quality of the voice.. maybe Luciano learned about it and there he goes, he kept on eating.. well, I guess he became popular too due to that big body of him. And yah, his voice was like magic. He has this technique that lets him be in control of his voice. But I think he is also a freak of nature. with that kind of voice. Its easy to put technical aspects with that voice. such beautiful voice.
@MusicalTenor23 - It's weird, isn't it? Some people say the weight gives a singer something to push against as he breaths and sings, but I don't get it. I think the answer is not the weight itself, but how swiftly a singer loses weight. Major weight loss alters every aspect of your body, and whether you're a singer or not, you have to acclimate to the way your muscles now interact. I think a newly slim singer has to relearn how to support, especially when it comes to 'big' repertoire.
@sopranosd yeah. they have to relearn their support again. And since the whole body is their instrument, it will really make them feel like its a new instrument that needs to be tuned again in order to produce a beautiful tone. That's why if a singer wants to get fit, it should be slowly. Reducing abruptly will sure cause an unwanted changes in the voice especially on the higher registers.
very beautiful luciano. he was so brilliant here, and i love this song very much, and luciano pavarotti just make me trembling when i hear his amazing voice.
I still prefer Jussi Bjorlings version though. Listen and you will understand. Bjorlings output of sound is more even and strong than any other tenors past or present.
I hate the way they videoed the venue and not him. The building will be there always, but every moment with this singer is immortal.

If it were not for the Little entrance mistake I would think this was an angel posing as a human. Bravo Luciano

The sound is awesome for its time... Mind you, if it wasn't a good sound you most likely end up in the woods chewing the roots grass from beneath.

Why is that Fat people (please excuse me) have that amazing endurance in Opera

@machngunjoe cos they sing from the heart, and its a big one.

Why is it that stupid people have this amazing gift of posting their crap, instead of keeping that for themselve? Listen to the Music and shut up!

Actually, Bjorling never had a large voice. It was a wonderful voice. No doubts. Pava vs. Bjorling is a matter of taste, nothing more.
