how do the dorms work at your school?

at my school, dorms are pretty much reserved for freshman and transfers. we have on campus apartments for upper class-men but mostly everyone lives off campus.

also, i recommend food stamps. it hurts less if someone steal your food when the government is buying it for you. plus then stealing your food becomes a federal offense!

I've always wondered who in my dorm last year was playing music very loudly at 4:00 in the morning on the floor below mine.

That said, I have a habit of thinking out loud, frequently and vociferously, and I tend to be almost nocturnal because I find nighttime peaceful, so I'm sure I more than returned the favor. He might even have been doing it to drown me out, for all I know.

And I should count myself lucky in any case, because I somehow didn't have a roommate.

I am dorming for the second year now, but this is still good advice. Sadly I cannot put up curtains unless they are approved by the California Fire code as they are a fire hazard, but I have a lot of personal affects on my dresser.

I'm moving into a student house next week, having been in dorms for a year. It's nowhere near as bad as you make it sound! The only point I agree with you on is the music. That does get annoying, but you can always psyche them out by putting on the same album but one track ahead.

@xcatshirx I'm starting my sophomore year. Definitly bring a mini fridge and microwave. A swim suit cover works great too if you share a bathroom with a lot of people (and are a girl). Also bing a shower caddy to carry your stuff to the showers regardless of your sex. Most colleges have cable included so bring a tv. Anything from home you'd be lost without (favorite stuffed animal, forms of intertainmetn) bring those as well. Hope this helped.

@originalquene Oh honey that depends on your dorm! Personally, I live in a dorm with 15 other people and everyone is pretty relaxed and studying hard. Me and my neighbor are the only ones who go crazy sometimes and our flatmates know... but they don't HEAR it, if you know what I mean. And when people want to party, they do it outside the dorm, in clubs or fraternities. So, my dorm is always pretty cosy. They knock on your door when they want a little chat, cup of tea or share dinner. It's nice.

lol!! yay for the 5 year program! as for thin walls: I was in college when the internet was a fairly new thing. There was this e-mail going around. You open the file and it boosts you volume as high as it will go and says "Hey everybody I'm watching porno over here!!! WOO HOO!!! " It happened to my neighbor one night around 1 am. I almost fell out of my bed I was laughing so hard. Oh college. :-)

You left out things for guys. Things I learned. Do you laundry. No you can't wear that shirt 3 or 4 more times. Candles smell nice, and should be used. Wash your sheets on your bed. Wear sandals at the very least to the showers. If you are studying, your room probably isn't the best place as people will find you and give you something more interesting to do.
