  • Dame Gracie put Rochdale on the map and the town is extremely proud of her. It now needs another superstar like her to lift it out of the doldrums.

  • My main memory of this show was the National Anthem at the end. A stage awash with "singers". Harry Secombe and Gracie effectively sang it as a duet.

  • Gracie Fields was a true Icon and I am one of her many fans, I did somthing about my fascination by compiling cds Ramona Requests 1930-52, and The latest one The Real Gracie Fields hits and rarities 1928-60, A lot of material on this 105 track 4 set cd is Radio and a few tv soundtracks. A true fan shares material to preserve an Icons standing mission complete for me, thanks so much for sharing this FABULOUS.

  • There was secret with that performance , The microphone she is standing in front off couldn`t be make to work when she sang that final song.

What you heard was raw talent that very few could master in those days and none today.

Gracie was a true artiste in every sense of the word, and would never let her public down

  • I hate all the crap, I just want to hear her sing it

  • She did an open air performance on a yacht not long after this appearance but had contracted pneumonia and died. Its great to see a working class performer become a star.

  • What class!

I'm 20 and absolutely in awe of such beautiful performers who sung their lungs out sustaining Britain through such terrible times.

  • @yasminx16 Me too, I get very teary watching her sing and seeing old clips of the performers who kept the troops' spirits up. It was a totally different generation back then.

  • I recently performed Gracie Fields song Wish Me Luck As You Wave me Goodbye, please take a look and i hope you enjoy it , i know i loved it.

  • She was an absolute legend, an all-round brilliant enteratiner and singer.

  • God, this woman was a STAR!

  • IMPRESIONANTE..........CUANDO SE VALE SE VALE......

  • I'm only 25, meaning Gracie Fields was a bit before my era. But even so she transcends generations, and is a fabulous singer and entertainer, and I still watch her films ocassionally.

Does anyone know if there is a full version of this documentary anywhere online? I watched it on BBC4 a few weeks ago but would like to watch it again.

  • now this was a true brit superstar..no airs or GRACIES..liam gallagher ...WHO...

  • Gracie did actually make one more television appearance on US television after this in early 1979, the month before she received her Dameship.

This is a very special and poignant video for all Gracie fans, as it shows just how much she was loved.

I love how Max Bygraves starts 'Sally' a little too early!

  • Thank you so much this is very special to me and many others. I hope its not removed as it was before.

  • @gf1001 we what'd this on tv last year and it was so moving thanks
