  • well done!

  • Joy division really left their mark even though they were around for so little time

  • me parece a un viejo ritual pero tiene muy musica my buena

  • cool

  • man their first ep is really good. they still had their punk roots

  • Never saw a war.

  • @waxyway warsaw is a place in poland its the capital

  • @thatscrazierthanyou Warsaw was the first name of Joy Division.

  • well i liked the video =D But the music is better of course

  • this video is bad, and you should feel bad for making it...

    good song though

  • Awsome video. Cool visuals. Great job.

  • my gf spent aq couple days in there.

  • ME GUSTA

  • @CaxAttack - "350125" was Rudolf Hess's prisoner of war serial number when he was captured having flown to Eaglesham, Scotland during World War II

  • Mój ulubiony kawałek Joy Division .

  • The Poles survived an awful lot and are richer for it.

Please see my tribute video: SPACER PO WARSZAWIE (THEY SURVIVED THEIR TYRANNIES!)

  • Love this song.<3

  • Does anyone know what the numbers mean at the beggining of the song?

  • @CaxAttack It was Rudolph Hess's prison number when he was in Spandau - 31G-350125

  • I have this on vinyl, what a great record...

  • WarSaw & Joy Division RULES 4 Ever

  • Very nice video. Well done.

Warsaw is one of my favorite Joy Division tracks. =)

  • I love the way the storm goes with the music! It's so simple but something nowone would think of.

  • why does this sound nothing like ian curtis?

  • Comment removed

  • Back in JD's early days, Ian sang in a more punky vocal style. Eventually, he went to a deeper voice after this recording.

  • It's taken from their first EP called "An Ideal For Living" (released in 1978). They hadn't really found their sound yet - neither instrumentally nor vocally. Still, Warsaw is one of my all time favorites. =)

  • He was a big fan of Iggy Pop and other punk bands of the day. This influence shows. Later on, the band grew into their own style and Ian adopted more of a baritone style, possibly due to his admiration of Jim Morrison, but it also fit the style more. Any band sounds different at first and then later on.

  • @iamdumberthenyou

because this is early work of them, back when they called themselves Warsaw. Later on, Ian started singing more baritone, what he is known for now. Both styles sound great imo.

  • warsaw pact vs NATO

  • what????

this song really is joy divsion???

    wow!!

  • †

  • I wonder if they was thinking about War Saw or Warsaw (capitol of poland) ?

  • @jaszczur1972 Poland.

  • they were thinking about rudolf hess (nazi) ..

warsaw was also the early name of the band after the bowie song "warszawa"

  • 3,5,0,1,2,5, Go!

  • One of my favorite songs!

  • this is true punk!!!

  • 31G = awesome record label

  • Who'd thought that they wrote a song about a nazi.

    The lyrics are really poetic.

  • 31G 31G 31G

  • can i ask from what jd album is that song ?

  • it was on 'An Ideal for Living' their first EP but I don't think they released it after that

  • This song appears on 1988 album SUBSTANCE

  • they singing in polish" było ci " sorry for my englisch :D

  • I love Unknown Pleasures, but I wish that they did a full punk album or two before they made it. Warsaw is one of the best punk songs ever, it's such a cock tease.

  • Yeah like Wire did with Pink Flag. I hear you. I'm not big on Joy Division and don't agree with some of Ian's beliefs, but this song is badass I must say. My favorite from the band.

  • what one of his beliefs?

  • tell me what you think about my band playing this song

  • joy division is the essential of western culture.

  • hi can you send me the song in a e mail ?

  • great video, great band, great song...xD

  • whos singing?

  • joy division ian curtis

  • ah right thought so doesnt sound like his singin on most their other stuff though dont u think?

  • Ian Curtis' real voice is not deep as what you usually hear him sing. In the early days when Joy Division was called Warsaw and when they were a punk band, Ian sung with his real voice, but when they became Joy Division and their music changed to a post-punk sound, Ian sang with a deeper voice. You can hear his rather soft voice during an interview that is also available on YouTube somewhere. People didn't know if it was his or Barney's voice, but it was in fact Ian talking.

  • me encanta joy division

    los amo

  • an inspiration for u2 vertigo

  • I like your video even though I really don't know what any of the images were supposed to signify

  • so cool number love Joy Devision

  • I'm only 16, but i was out of the womb and on to the Joy Division. Every single song i've written has been influenced by Joy Division, wondering if Ian Curtis would like it haha. They could have been huge, they've made such an impact on so many peoples lives in such a short period of time, and just to think if they were able to continue for a few more years...have to settle for New Order i suppose!

  • Do you think anybody has the phone number 350125? Might start randomly dialling it with different are codes. Perhaps not though.

  • I have listened to these dudes for the last 27 years- I recall when Ian topped himself of course- being old enough- this music is so damn excellent- many memories for me every time I hear it and one never tires of them no matter how often one listens- I have found!

  • i remember when i started going to clubs in 1980 something, they were playing the hell out of this. and lots of old siouxie stuff too. god i'm old.......

  • I loooooove the Joy Division

  • this is cool !

  • I usually don't like fan videos at all but this one is good

  • HISTROIKA I really hope you mean fuck Hess instead of "hailing" him.

  • What did Rudolf Hess ever do? Perhaps you are confusing him for that larger-than-life "monster" Rudolf Hoess?

  • He tried getting English royals under Hitler's control so the English wouldn't fight with the Allies to defeat the Nazi's, but he failed :D

  • So he tried to sue for peace and that makes you hate him? Do you believe that it was right that he should have been imprisoned for life and be banned from human contact?

And by the way what do you mean "with the Allies"? At the time the UK was the only one and had already attacked their former ally and then neutral state France murdering thousands of their non-combatant sailors.

  • My personal thought on Ian's assumed nazi tendency unrelated to anything said or written about it: how can something be labelled joyful in a concentration camp ? In all his lyrics there's desperation, distruction, waste to name a few.

  • I know for a fact that Noel Gallagher thinks this song is awesome

  • Damnit, good thing it's a really good song, otherwise i'd never listen to it :P

  • This song is great

  • god jul

  • The World at War, Warlord comics, Airfix kits etc..the tacky 70's, WW2 was really fashionable then as I recall.

  • Heavy metal is a British-originating subgenre anticipated by five American GIs stationed in Germany.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome =)

  • Never got their obsession with WW2 any mind to explain?

  • THREE ONE G!

    swing kids cover was amazing

  • Okay so this doesn't sound anything like what they would later develop but it's still a really excellent song.

  • I've been to Warsaw.

  • I live in Warsaw :)

  • @Jun0R34ct0R Me too

  • this is really good

  • You forget about Rudolph Hess? :P

  • 31G, 31G, 31G

  • This was in a Tony Hawk game I think. JD ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my band did a jd cover show. check out Creapy FreakFilms or look up loud youth irving.

  • This song just reminds me of THUG2, and it pisses me off. :/

  • No, it was not.

  • Cool video! If you like making music videos for songs, you should check out the Mr. Smilez contest for his new single Automatic! Just search "mr. smilez automatic contest" on youtube. There's some great prizes for the user who gets the most positive comments about his or her video for the song Automatic!

  • i don't understand why everyone keeps asking if jd were nazis. aside from the name, there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE that they supported fascism, anybody who's read their lyrics would know that.

  • lol

  • Joy division werent faschist's. Personally I think they were just facinated by the nazi's organisation and there acomplishments throughout there existance.

  • I think so too.

Fascination of evil is no agreement to evil...

After all, No love lost isnt very positive.

Greetings to GB, land of cider, beer and classic heavy metal!

  • You're not much into reading aren't you?

Britain is the home of many influential music styles, not only punk. I NEVER said that Joy Division was Metal and if you were not too blind or too dumb you would have seen that.

    And im german not US...

    So GTFO you chav moron...

  • Your English is better than our chav buddy's. I love Germans.

  • @Wundwolf Actually, rock n roll started in the U.S.A. and so did punk rock via people like Iggy Pop, who toured in Europe and ignited a punk scene there.

  • @Wundwolf Actually, rock n roll started in the U.S.A. and so did punk rock via people like Iggy Pop and MC5, who toured in Europe and ignited a punk scene there.

  • Your stereotyping of Americans makes you a bit ignorant yourself, no?

  • Not to mention that rock and roll, and the multitude of genres that came after it pretty much were birthed in America, by Americans.

  • the video is not really good but the song is great

  • i love the flame.

  • 3 1 G ?

  • So many say Joy Division had something to do with nazism is it true? 31G are the first digits of the serial number of Rudolf Hess.

  • That is true yes.

  • Despite those facts they are still a great band

  • I agree

  • they didn't admit they were nazis and I don't think they are... some people also thought siouxsie sioux and her band were a bunch of nazis too, lol. it's only a matter of esthetic.

  • No. It is possible to admire art from a regime, and simultaneously detest the regime itself.

  • You they took the name Warsaw from a David bowie song and not from any reference to Nazism or anything of the sort and the name Joy Division comes from a book called House of dolls which mentions a sector of a concentration camp call the joy division which housed prostitutes for the use of the concentration camp guards joy division have absolutely no ideological similarities or otherwise to Nazism and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise

  • Great job on making the video fit the rhythm of the music! Cheers :D

  • fuck hitler, and his followers, members of my family helped kick his ass once, and we'll do it again, fuck the aryans

  • i', from Poland, and hitler was fighting with my country during the world wars: I and II and i know how cruel was he! millions of Polich pepole died in concentration camps and its not olny about Jewes. Maybe U saw last movie of Andrzej Wajda, which was nominated to Oscar - Katyń. Movie told about union of stalin and hitler. I know my history and i know its bloody and how dangerous nasism is. But not

  • Well, first of all, Hitler was just a soldrier during WWI, he wasn't a leader at that time. Second of all, there was no such country as Poland during the first war, we all know from history lessons, that Poland became independent again AFTER World War One. Don't get me wrong, just wanna get the facts straight. I do think that Hitler was one sick bastard. He wanted to eliminate all the Jews from the face of the Earth and create a master race of super-germans for goodnes sake.

  • But dont compare Joy Division to Hitler, that's just not right.

  • my grandfather was literally within 3 feet of him with a concealed pistol, but got killed before he could shoot, this would have ended hitlers reign by almost 10 months earlier.

  • You can give this guy all the thumbs down you want but he is correct. During WW1 Hitler was nothing but a peon soldier and Poland was not a country. Idk what the previous argument was because I'm not going back to look but those 2 facts can't be argued......

  • I dont realy care about those thumbs up or down. I'm not an expert on history, but knowing things like that about my own country is a must.

Back to the topic; I agree with bucketlesshead: Joy Division is ironic. They were called Warsaw back when they were starting. If they were nazis they would probably choose a german city for their name rather than a polish city occupied by Germans during WW2.

  • Joy Division and nazism are ideologically unlinked

  • actually all the members of joy division had relatives who died in concentration camps. the name is meant to be ironic.

  • the nazis are just a political party and it was hilter who wanted the jews, and america canada and alot of other places wouldn't let the jews in to our countries when they feld germany and the fact is that canada basicly did they same with the japense except we didn't kill them but its all the same shit and the fact that they might be related to the nazi party doesn't change the fact that there music is awesome

  • Oh fuck off. How dare you call Joy Division nazis. Their name and some ideology in songs refer to nazism, nothing more. I really don't think they glorify or celebrate it what so ever.

Everyone seems to forget about the likes of Prince Harry, I'm sure you remembed him wearing that uniform.

What music are you into anyway gav ?

    Politically correct dribble I expect.

    Idiot

  • Joy Division...the sector of a concentration camp devoted to "pleasuring" officers. Do your research.

  • can someone tell me other songs of joy division that sounds like this?

  • "No Love Lost" and "Leaders of Men" maybe?

  • Oh, and "Failures" These are all from their Warsaw days.

  • "The Drawback", "Failures" and "Interzone".

  • thekill, get the warsaw lp i used to have a bootleg and most all of the songs sounded like...living in the ice age, they walked in line..theres alot more

  • theyre not nazis, ian curtis said so in an interview.the were supporting buzzcocks, they chose this name to show the strong link between death and love.THEY ARENT NAZI

  • thank you for making it clear to me xD i love this song but i didnt know if they wene nazi or not :(

  • Love this song!:)

  • Wow this hardly sounds like joy division, I first heard this song on thps underground 2, and I still cant believe how Ian Curtis's voice sounds back in their punk days.

  • i cant believe joy division played this usually has depressing music i wonder if ian curtis sang this

  • This is early Joy Division when they were called Warsaw. This is simply punk music. Their sound changed beyond punk, therefore came post-punk.

  • Has Joy Division anything to do with nazis and with Hess at all????

  • how dare you accusing joy division with nazis with hess.

  • actually, joy division even admitted they had experimented with facism in their warsaw days

  • recomend any other joy divion songs guys?

  • Its the prisoner number that Rudolph Hess had

  • I Love The Song, But What The Hell Does The Chorus Mean? Why Does He Say 31G? Is There Something I'm Missing?
