Zappa was conducting because he does it well and every member of the band had the utmost respect for him , you just can't and really shouldn't criticise probably the greatest musician of our time. In other words don't fuckin try n nit pick and get back to watching oasis or some other SECOND rate band, no offence!
pink floyd cannot be compared with zappa.. they led different lifestyle while making music... floyd never went to the extremes with music, but certainly did with drugs while making music... i ain't saying anything negative about floyd, but zappa's productivity showed that brain can be powerful without drugs.. drug is just a shortcut for lazy people trying to achieve something... zappa is the best :)
@pedalla The guys in Pink Floyd never used drugs, thank you very much, aside from their original frontman, Syd Barrett, who went loony on acid. After that NONE of the band members did drugs, unless you consider cigarettes a drug.
@mindfreak990 well, didn't know that... however, i still think they cannot be compared with zappa... they achieved a lot too and they had great music, however zappa did music that wasn't that easy for average person to hook upon... and , amazingly, still gained a lot of success..
drugs.. well i like pink floyd and this is a really nice thing to hear afterall..
@pedalla Yeah, the psychedelia creates a lot pf misconceptions. Zappa played off of extreme complexity via mass musicality and composure of instrumentation, while Floyd focused on more projection expansion in the areas of their creativity. Both artists has amazing vocal and instrumental music, but Zappa was, as you said, superior, in the amount of complexity and strong composition to his music.
@mindfreak990 dude, david gilmour had an admitted coke problem in the 80's and i knew this and im a noob (sorta) to floyd. So i guess your just talking out your ass right now, Huh?
@rwk1983 I was talking acid, dumbshit. Gilmour and Wright had admitted coke problems, but basically everyone was clean after Barrett went downhill, minus previous addiction problems. BOOM ROASTED, CUNT

Americans should recognize that Zappa was just genius. Fugg the Beatles, Hendrix, Zepplin....none of these guys have half the catalog, 1/64th of the musical depth and diversity that Zappa has.
@r3dfiv3 - Plus he's an amazing drummer. That's awesome that you got to meet him, from the interviews and stuff I've read he seems like he is a cool, down to earth person.
Wow!, you people sure do have zappa's dick up your butt

Why does everybody talks about Pink Floyd on Zappa video? They don't have a tenth of his musicianship.

The unison between Ed Mann and Tommy Mars at 1.37 is especially beautiful.
Hearing such technical writing (and playing) remains, to this day, a unique experience at a rock gig.

I think every male Frank Zappa fan (and quite a few of the female as well) has fallen madly in love with Ruth Underwood at some point.

i think it was mostly for reference, like if the band fell apart and needed to get back on track, instead of purely following his wacky dance.
