everyone is overlooking there is a full second difference in 1/4 mile times... if you think that GTP was keeping up I think you need to go back and check how big of a difference a full second is and appreciate how the angle of a camera can make two object seem close together
They might have changed the just changed the holden monaro a lil but it was produced by GM Holden Ltd, an Australian subsidiary of General Motors, between 1968 and 1977 and between 2001 and 2005. Witch gives them a right to do it, they didnt take another idea that wasnt already GM.
@bigmax88 you definatly need more then a pulley drop and a cai. i have a gtp and yes a cai helps but you need a lot of supporting mods before you can pulley drop or your engine is a ticking time bomb. and even with a pully drop and cai and a tune, with a ticking time bomb of an engine, you still couldnt pull that.

i could care less about the gto, i love grand prixs more then any other car AND PEOPLE its mostly the cars soul and looks, performance isn't really important to me

@crackerms0100 I definitely agree. I love my Grand Prixs too, even when I have problems with em sometimes. It's a fun car to drive and work with and looks a hell of a lot better then that GTO. They should have made the GTO's look more like the originals, then they would have had more popularity like the new Camaros then making it look like some import. No offense to the import drivers lol!

Chevy: 175hp 5 litre V8, front disc/rear drum, standard 5 link axle. Holden: 4 wheel discs, independent rear end, 230hp 5 litre V8, running a 15 second quarter mile stock. The AWD Holden Special Vehicles GTO is very rare, as it was only on a model run of two years.

Wow put a real driver in the GTO. If both cars are just lightly modded then there is no WAY that a GP is going to keep up with a GTO, even if it just has the LS1.
I also agree- I didnt say you couldnt get low 11's - but you need a turbo charger, cam, tune, better tires, upgraded suspension and that cost alot more than 3000 like you claim. It could be a case (rarely) of someone that owns his own shop, does his own grinds and builds his own turbo setups and has the unique tools needed to work on a 4t65. Ofcourse, this isnt usually the case.
actually theres a guy running 11 sec here in wis with a gen five supercharger. and i have a guy helping me with my motor and he also has a supercharger both are in the elevens. but ya a cam, suspension, and tires are a plus to get that torque to the road

gtps arent junk, to me anyway. if u catch the right driver nd have a gtp coupe, its quicker than a stock srt4.. nd if you like the gtp but want more power.. look into the GXP. it has a v8 over 300 hp nd tq.. get a coupe one of those nd ur set.

I've already trounced a 97 GTP when I first bought my GTO... he was running a cammed and pullied setup with full bolt on's and running max bost for the stock eaton.... up to 60MPH he hung pretty well, had about a car on him... then up to 120 I just pulled 2-3 cars and then we let off

But for the price, its pretty good. a few years down the road(unless these cars unpredictably become indemand) the Ls1 and Ls2 GTO will be in the GrandPix shoes. (if it is not already). for 17k thats the best up-to-date car any V8 torque head can buy. 8 or 10k for a GTP in good condition is a great bang for the DeNearo too

Now ive dropped 5k in it and im running (depending on t if im running drags or regulars, track conditions, the spacefic track, and nitrious) i can run middle tens to high 11's. you both sit here and argue about how fast they run but it depends on alot of different shit.
Oh yeah and the sunfire is nothing but a cheap piece of shit that doesnt run more than 100k,, oh and its a fucking rice burner!
the 07's came stock with a eaton.... and the stock eaton isn't putting you into 11's without ALOT more than 5k into it... including suspension work, transmission swap, tires, full bolt on's, substantial cooling mods and spray on top on it
if you swapped to a M112 eaton then you might be eligible for 11's... but not after the mentioned mods above and ALOT more than 5K... just the swap alone would run you 3K for the unit and then you have to upgrade your fuel system
no you dont understand, all i did was send out my s/c and they drilled a bigger intake hole and then they drilled another one on the side which only cost 1500, new intercooler which wasnt even 300, a second fuel pump and a larger feul line which was about 500, my suspension was 500, um yeah the transmission im still working on...... of course i do run drags most of the time, and my spray was free.
I do understand... to run 11's your stock eaton would have to pushing MAJOR PSI, with even being ported and having a FMIC it will not hold.. or produce the power required to run 11's
you do realise you can only run so low of a pulley size before you need to swap to a larger core and start all over right?
because I just spelled it out for you with the above explanation... the stock bottom end, stock top end, stock suspension, stock tranny, stock supercharger, stock anything... will not handle 8 seconds
the supercharger alone is 3 grand, and even then running 8 seconds would requirean entirely new fuel delivery system, injectors and everything... you are looking at a project that is going to be over 50 grand on top of the car

there isn't a price to part breakdown in the world you can make up right now that would equate to 12 grand building an 8 second car.... not with ANY pontiac, bank on it
12k just for fuel sys, blower, tuning. I would go shop somewhere else if I were you. Turbo system if you do it yourself can cost only 1k, tuning 500 at most, fuel system 300-600. Weight reduction is almost and always free. Forged engine block 4k-7k at most.
if a block, turbo anweight reduction is all one needs to buy to make an 8 second car I wonder why there aren't more

Another thing I want you to keep in mind is that if a V6 owner is going to dump 50k on their car they have to be out of their mind. A few people I'm sure are willing to it just for kicks, but for 50k they would rather get a Corvette Z06.

My husband '03 GTP is in low 11 sec. with a small pulley, computer tuning, fuel, cam, and the engine block is still stock. We haven't put in that much money into it. I think he only spent less than 2k or 3k so far. The stereo sys. cost more lol. Ofcourse he takes it off when he race.

Cartuning makes Turbo for GTP that comes along with a tune PCM. Many with this set up are already doing high 11 sec. And they never pulled the engine out. This proves that the GTP engine is already strong.

Supposedly, a small supercharger pully (forgot what size), rocker arms, pcm flash, cai, U bend eliminating less restrictive cat back exhaust, and drag tires. Doing the work yourself you could do that for under 2 I imagine.

they aren't though. Mind you I have added a Wizair intake, ZZP PCM, Autolite 104's, 180* T-stat, 3" downpipe and a 3.5 pulley. My car can now take on dodge charger R/T's. I managed a 5.8 0-60 run, not the fastest but still not bad. I also did the 1/4 mile in 14.3 seconds.

it all depends on your launch I would say 14.8-15.00 is about average. Don't forget that a stock GTP only has about 6.5 psi of boost. with the smaller pulley I am about 8-8.5 psi. When I did the 1/4 mile I didn't have the best tires. I have a buddy who says he saw a GTP with the same mods as I have, do the 1/4 in 14.1 seconds. That is a big improvement over the stock car. I am sure I could hit 14.1 or 14.2 with a proper launch and some better tires.
I am not sure how fast are cars can go, but to me all that matters is how long it takes to get there. GTP's are not the fastest cars, but for the money I have spent I am more then happy. Plus once I get a set of headers and a 3.4 pulley I will be able to beat a lot of cars that cost a lot more.
4600lbs? Who the hell told you a GP weighs that much? Do any search and you'll see it's around 3400. Actually just weighed mine the other day and it came out to be 3583 with me in the car.
The GTO had such a poor remake... Nothing like the good old days. That fact that it weighs a gazillion pounds and was paired with an unfair motor. Pontiac should be ashamed. (NOT SAYING ITS SLOW, but please, eveyrone knows it could have been built a hell of lot better, especially for how expensive it is.)
Autos are rated at 13.0 stock and manual are rated at 13.3 stock! I have seen a stock '06 GTO run 12.7 at the strip, twice! I have also seen some run 14, you have to know how to launch them. They have an Electronic Throttle Body and Torque Steer Management...
Ok pal, where I live there's a little under a 1 sec difference with sea level due to the altitude and the BONE stock LS2 GTO will run a 15 to a 14.89 1/4. Translate that to sea level and it runs in the neighborhood of low 14's to high 13's. Every car and every driver is different, thus the variation in time.
So get off your internet high horse and accept the fact that not EVERY goat will run what you're saying.

mu uncle has a 40th anniv. GTP with about 4 grand in it (not sure exactly what) but all i knwo is that thing looks mean ,especially with the front mount its so funny to see on a gran prix. his ran a 13.2 its ridiculous haha

I also agree- I didnt say you couldnt get low 11's - but you need a turbo charger, cam, tune, better tires, upgraded suspension and that cost alot more than 3000 like you claim. I think it is kind of cute to see that a guy can still lie to his wife about how much he spends--- probably like a lady telling his man her shoes were under $20---- :) - I would say he spent at least 7000-8000 dollars-- If I were you I would go buy a bunch of shoes or whatever cause he has been Lying to you girl!!!

It could be a case (rarely) of someone that owns his own shop, does his own grinds and builds his own turbo setups and has the unique tools needed to work on a 4t65. Ofcourse, this isnt usually the case.

actually theres a guy running 11 sec here in wis with a gen five supercharger. and i have a guy helping me with my motor and he also has a supercharger both are in the elevens. but ya a cam, suspension, and tires are a plus to get that torque to the road

gtps arent junk, to me anyway. if u catch the right driver nd have a gtp coupe, its quicker than a stock srt4.. nd if you like the gtp but want more power.. look into the GXP. it has a v8 over 300 hp nd tq.. get a coupe one of those nd ur set.

I've already trounced a 97 GTP when I first bought my GTO... he was running a cammed and pullied setup with full bolt on's and running max bost for the stock eaton.... up to 60MPH he hung pretty well, had about a car on him... then up to 120 I just pulled 2-3 cars and then we let off

you are insightful and know your stuff on hotrods bro. My argument was not that the Grand Prix is the fastest car out there. But for the price, its pretty good. a few years down the road(unless these cars unpredictably become indemand) the Ls1 and Ls2 GTO will be in the GrandPix shoes. (if it is not already). for 17k thats the best up-to-date car any V8 torque head can buy. 8 or 10k for a GTP in good condition is a great bang for the DeNearo too

Oh come on, im driving a 07 grandprix gt with an eaton supercharger... Now ive dropped 5k in it and im running (depending on t if im running drags or regulars, track conditions, the spacefic track, and nitrious) i can run middle tens to high 11's. you both sit here and argue about how fast they run but it depends on alot of different shit.
Oh yeah and the sunfire is nothing but a cheap piece of shit that doesnt run more than 100k,, oh and its a fucking rice burner!

the 07's came stock with a eaton.... and the stock eaton isn't putting you into 11's without ALOT more than 5k into it... including suspension work, transmission swap, tires, full bolt on's, substantial cooling mods and spray on top on it
if you swapped to a M112 eaton then you might be eligible for 11's... but not after the mentioned mods above and ALOT more than 5K... just the swap alone would run you 3K for the unit and then you have to upgrade your fuel system

no you dont understand, all i did was send out my s/c and they drilled a bigger intake hole and then they drilled another one on the side which only cost 1500, new intercooler which wasnt even 300, a second fuel pump and a larger feul line which was about 500, my suspension was 500, um yeah the transmission im still working on...... of course i do run drags most of the time, and my spray was free.

I do understand... to run 11's your stock eaton would have to pushing MAJOR PSI, with even being ported and having a FMIC it will not hold.. or produce the power required to run 11's
you do realise you can only run so low of a pulley size before you need to swap to a larger core and start all over right?

the supercharger alone is 3 grand, and even then running 8 seconds would requirean entirely new fuel delivery system, injectors and everything... you are looking at a project that is going to be over 50 grand on top of the car

12k just for fuel sys, blower, tuning. I would go shop somewhere else if I were you. Turbo system if you do it yourself can cost only 1k, tuning 500 at most, fuel system 300-600. Weight reduction is almost and always free. Forged engine block 4k-7k at most.
So that is not 50 k.

Another thing I want you to keep in mind is that if a V6 owner is going to dump 50k on their car they have to be out of their mind. A few people I'm sure are willing to it just for kicks, but for 50k they would rather get a Corvette Z06.
That's another reason why there's not a whole lot of GM's V6 in the track, other than Buick GN, Typhoon, and Syclone.

My husband '03 GTP is in low 11 sec. with a small pulley, computer tuning, fuel, cam, and the engine block is still stock. We haven't put in that much money into it. I think he only spent less than 2k or 3k so far. The stereo sys. cost more lol. Ofcourse he takes it off when he race.

There's nothing to gain when one lies.
Cartuning makes Turbo for GTP that comes along with a tune PCM. Many with this set up are already doing high 11 sec. And they never pulled the engine out. This proves that the GTP engine is already strong.

Supposedly, a small supercharger pully (forgot what size), rocker arms, pcm flash, cai, U bend eliminating less restrictive cat back exhaust, and drag tires. Doing the work yourself you could do that for under 2 I imagine.
Those are just claims Ive seen, but there is a video on here somewhere of a gtp tripping the lights under 12

they aren't though. Mind you I have added a Wizair intake, ZZP PCM, Autolite 104's, 180* T-stat, 3" downpipe and a 3.5 pulley. My car can now take on dodge charger R/T's. I managed a 5.8 0-60 run, not the fastest but still not bad. I also did the 1/4 mile in 14.3 seconds.

it all depends on your launch I would say 14.8-15.00 is about average. Don't forget that a stock GTP only has about 6.5 psi of boost. with the smaller pulley I am about 8-8.5 psi. When I did the 1/4 mile I didn't have the best tires. I have a buddy who says he saw a GTP with the same mods as I have, do the 1/4 in 14.1 seconds. That is a big improvement over the stock car. I am sure I could hit 14.1 or 14.2 with a proper launch and some better tires.

I am not sure how fast are cars can go, but to me all that matters is how long it takes to get there. GTP's are not the fastest cars, but for the money I have spent I am more then happy. Plus once I get a set of headers and a 3.4 pulley I will be able to beat a lot of cars that cost a lot more.

They ('05-'06 GTO) "can" run 13.0 stock, and weighs 3725lbs. with 400hp. = 9.325lbs/hp, so it's not that bad.

Autos are rated at 13.0 stock and manual are rated at 13.3 stock! I have seen a stock '06 GTO run 12.7 at the strip, twice! I have also seen some run 14, you have to know how to launch them. They have an Electronic Throttle Body and Torque Steer Management...

Ok pal, where I live there's a little under a 1 sec difference with sea level due to the altitude and the BONE stock LS2 GTO will run a 15 to a 14.89 1/4. Translate that to sea level and it runs in the neighborhood of low 14's to high 13's. Every car and every driver is different, thus the variation in time.
So get off your internet high horse and accept the fact that not EVERY goat will run what you're saying.

I'd say stop paying attention to shitty drivers then, a flawlessly driven LS2 GTO will see high 12's, a moderately driven one will see low-mid 13's
end of story, it's about what the car can do, not about a few idiots you can pick out at the track that fail at driving

Thanks for the comments. This was last year (2006) now this year I've gone the best of 13.35 @ 102.5 MPH. I think a friend of mine has that on video if not I do have one going 13.39

mu uncle has a 40th anniv. GTP with about 4 grand in it (not sure exactly what) but all i knwo is that thing looks mean ,especially with the front mount its so funny to see on a gran prix. his ran a 13.2 its ridiculous haha
i just wish the cars weren't FWD and auto only, cause theyre so sexy looking

I love the looks of the car and the looks on peoples faces when you run a 13.xx or faster in the 1/4 mile. I thank the cars would be faster if not for being FWD and maybe a manual.
