  • Spreading fear?

Here in the Netherlands and most EU countries we have fully or partly government-controlled healthcare which is much cheaper than the US system, does not deny people their healthcare when they actually need it and have no wait times for urgent healthcare and very decent wait times for less urgent healthcare.

  • @Hypernl Do you call this working?

  • Yes there are problems with the Canadian health system but the greed based system in the United States, creates far more tragedies than the Canadian system. We either have empathy toward our fellow man, or do not. Which is more moral?

  • @AlvinEinschwein 'Greed based'? It is immoral to take the fruits of one man's labor and give it to another. That's called theft. There is no morality in theft. The Quebec Supreme court ruled against your wonderful healthcare system a few years ago, saying it prevented people from maintaing their own health. How can you support the suffering of this woman?

  • FEAR MONGERING.

  • I feel very sorry for this woman; however, I love the Canadian health care. My brother was born with a serious heart problem that prevented his blood from flowing properly. He had an open heart operation within four days, a second open heart surgery a year later, and a transplant the year after that (since he was finally big enough for a donor heart).

  • @midnightmoonrise Continued:

Late this March the doctors discovered that he needed another transplant since the donor heart was wearing out. He got the transplant in mid April. All of his operations, tests, and check ups did not cost my parents anything and all of his treatment was done in a timely manner. The doctors did an amazing job on my brother and he is healing wonderfully.

  • @midnightmoonrise Your parents don't pay taxes, is that what you are saying? How is your healthcare funded? What if your province expended all of its healthcare dollars? What then? Why is it that some Canadian provinces contract with US hospitals for services?

  • @midnightmoonrise The "I've got mine" syndrome. That is immoral.

  • I am 72 years old, and just now having serious problems with my back...I have the same condition as the young woman in the video. This woman had to have other problems besides her diagnosis.

  • The Canada Health Act Discriminates Against Injured

Workers By Excluding Them From "Access To Health Services Without Financial Or Other Barriers" By Excluding "Any Health Services That A Person Is Entitled To And Eligible For Under Any Act Of The legislature Of A Province That Relates To Workers' Or Workmen's Compensation" And That This Leaves Injured Workers Vulnerable To Wrongdoing By The Workers Compensation System

  • Yes it had taken her a long time and created a lot of agony for her. Americans must realize how much it would of cost for diagnosis treatment in the United States, such surgery that could very well be out of the hands of the average middle class American. The Canadian Government is big but has the lowest corporate tax rates in the G8. Medicare takes the worries of health of the chest of companies and frees their money to innovate and create jobs

  • So shes upset because she didnt get to jump to the front of the line? When they say there were older ppl in line first, they didnt say 80 or 90 year olds. they might have been 30 or 40.

She didn't get to do what she wanted, but she was at home with her family and probably on good medication- with the promise that she would get better when her turn came around. And yes, having to wait for your turn sucks- but you cant assume shes suffering more than other ppl, or living worse.

  • @jeanniewood

would be worse if she thinks she has cancer

  • The People Need The Same, Health Care, As The People Thay Elect.......

  • @stringlov Did you even watch the video?

You'll be judged by your age, your status, the amount of time you wait.

So just so this is clear...under Obamacare you will be discriminated against, you will have to wait years to get help, and you may never receive help for your problems till you grow older. Yep sounds like the same kind of benefits as our electives.

Equality for all, If your rich that is.

  • Our beautiful 18 yr. old daughter was in a car acci. Her face imploded crushing her cheekbones, nose and pieces missing fr. her jaw. In 5 weeks they reconstructed her face and, although losing sight in one eye, she looks wonderful, went on to get her masters in science. It didn't cost a thing. I love Canadian health care, when it works!

  • @stevileev And your daughter would've received the same treatment here under insurance, and would have ended up in a better hospital with much more intelligent better suited physicians thanks to the United States private practice medical programs. I love United States health care, when it works!

  • I'm curious what would've happened here in the States? You can't just complain about Canadian health care w/o looking at alternatives. For every Canadian horror story, there is an American one of denied care based on profit and bankrupted families. Almost half of bankruptcies in the US occurred because of a medical issue!

  • So many people in the USA are on welfare because there are no jobs! Why work somewhere like a slave & can't afford nothing! You can live better on welfare in some cases!

  • If she were in the United States, she wouldn't have seen a doctor AT ALL because she stated "I didn't work". In the US if you don't work you don't get care unless you have a husband who can put you on his plan. At least in Canada she got seen. Rare diseases like this are very uncommon and there probably aren't as many specialists in this field in Canada... nor in the US for that matter.

  • Insurance doesn't cover those kind of problems or they drop or refuse you.

I have piriformis syndrome and American health care wants one hundred thousand dollars to fix. They would never let me get insurance since i was under18 when it started. Can't work with a bad back and was refused social security for being too young. I guess I can just be homeless or move to Mexico because Canada wont let me live there. Thanks a lot American health care.

  • yes her story is sad and it is wrong that she was treated that way but if you look up countries that use socialist health care then look up countries that have the longest life expectancy lowest infancy death rates economic stability crime rates all the countries that have the best results are socialist countries. Sweden,Netherlands,Copenhagen,Luxembourg,Finland and others are all government health care all neutral countries and all socialist stop watching Fox news sponsored by Blue cross,AIG

  • @willmo02 So, you'd rather sit for 2 years, in pain, shitting and pissing yourself in order to save a buck until you get treatment? And MAYBE have longest life expectancy, but if you got AIDS or cancer, YOU'RE FUCKED when time is critical. As for lowest infancy death rates, economic stability, crime rates, its due to there being no money to be made off their economy, and as such, they have little to no say so at g20 or g8 summits.

  • @willmo02 They invested in their own economy enough to keep it self-sustained. The U.S, China, Britain, etc. trade internationally, everyone relies on our and Brit money, so we don't have much to invest in ourselves nor be self-sufficient. And if we were self-sufficient, who would other countries go to for world aid?

  • a check up in the united states to talk to a doctor for 5 min will not cost you less then 150 to 300 bucks and private health insurance does not cover check ups and alot of forms of treatment for illnesses. you are trusting a company that does not have regulations but only for profit would you trust a oil company for your familys well being or a car insurance company to treat you fare i dont think so so why is corporate health care diffrent then any other company without federal regulations

  • they can pass any pill they want because there is no mandate on a success rate of that pill and how many side effects are allowed that's why you see so many law suits against pharmaceutical company's. social health care is something you are already paying for its called medicare except you don't touch it till your 65 social health care is you pay for it now you get it now. people develop less cancer and other illnesses because they get more check ups and catch it quicker

  • the reason that she was dismissed by so many doctors and said she was not old enough is because it is a spinal surgery this can be very complicated and a slip of hand by a millimeter or 2 can cause her to be completely parilized which is a major risk to the hospitals name so she was denied it happens in the US as well and so does the waiting the fact is health care no is not federally mandated so there is no proper standards its like the FDA passing pills which is also not federally mandated

  • Canadians don't want to work lmfao is that why there are more americans on welfare then Canada has population. and on going to school Canadians education is second in the world and america is 34 in the world. so maybe you should go back to school and not in the u.s.a. in a real education system. to end i am Canadian and i know how long it take to get treatment in Canada i've had to get it before and it's no 25 hour +

  • WOW, do you know how many people are denied coverage by their insurance companies because they dont think there is a problem, i.e there is not enough of a problem for the insurance companies to sacrafice their profits. PLEASE could someone give me a legitimate argument against universal healthcare that doesnt involve some bullshit lie about socialism or government getting in the way of doctors, THESE ARE MYTHS created by ppl that profit from the current system. I dare you.

  • @Screaminjoeblade I have a very low quality health insurance, yet I would still be able to see a doctor and get this surgery if necessary. Yes, I would be put on a payment plan to pay off said surgery but I would have been treated... without being told I had not suffered enough. Obamacare will make it destroy this.

  • @venagio If you lost your job due to the condition and couldn't qualify for the credit for the payment plans what would you do next? If you did lose your job and couldn't afford the low quality healthcare insurance you have now and then developed the condition what then? Most Canadians would admit the sys needs improvement - but wouldn't trade it for US style healthcare. Not because it's free (our taxes are higher) but because we think EVERYONE deserves healthcare. It's a Canadian mindset.

  • From a Canadian to Americans you get to choose the system you want and more power to ya, but I love our system here in Canada, I have received great care without worrying about how to pay and have never ever been told what doctor I am allowed to see.

  • @AboveBelowBetween I am a Canadian living in the US... No, in Canada I was never told which doctor I could see... but I have had to wait for surgeries that I needed, and my father right now is waiting for surgery for an ankle that he can hardly walk on.

Yes, in the USA you've got to pay more for health care, but you get it faster and you don't have to wait.

  • @washau76 Also in Canada you still have to pay for health care in the form of taxes. Last time I checked the average tax that a Canadian paid was about %56 of his/her income, in the US it was about %47.

So no matter what you still have to pay for it no matter where you go.

And in the US if the surgery is too much, like $250,000, you would only have to pay a small percentage of that surgery even if you didn't have health insurance.

  • @karozans sorry but it cost the average Canadian only 4 500 a year for heath care and in the u.s. the average health care cost 7 500 and in the u.s. you can be cut off at any time even if you have paid in.

  • @ikeones Well you certainly blew me out of the water with your info. little Canadian. Oh wait no you didn't.

Until I see droves of people flocking to Canada for HC, I am going to go ahead and say that the quality of HC is better in the US than Canada.

Also the average waiting time to get into an ER in Canada is 23+ hours, in the US it is 4+ hours. So maybe that is worth $3000 a year to some people.

And also Canada has a pop of a pissy 35M and the US is at 310M.

  • @karozans 23+ hours your on crake, i cut my hand at work cut though 2 veins and a tendon i was back at work in under 3 hours.

  • @ikeones Oh geez. Your one person out of 35 million that got in. I am so happy for you. Maybe you should go back to 3rd grade and learn what "Average" means, then come talk to me.

  • @ikeones Here let me help you learn. I know you Canadians don't want to work very hard so I will help you.

    Open Google and type in....

"average emergency room wait time in canada"

    Without quotes.

You will see dozens of websites stating that it is between 20+ and 25+.

Last time I checked with John Stossel who I have found to be the most reliable source of information he said it was about 23+.

I suppose now you are going to tell me that John Stossel is a liar and a corporate shill, right?

  • @ikeones Also let me show you the beauty of REAL HC reform.

I am sure you have heard of LASIK right? Well LASIK is not covered by any heath insurance and never has been.

When LASIK first came out in the US it was about $5000 per eye. Since it is not covered by insurance Doctors had to compete to get people to come in. Now LASIK can be done for $500 an eye and we have equipment that is way better today.

LASIK is about the only medical procedure that has gone down in price ever.

  • @ikeones If you would like to see a Canadian Doctor talking about this go to Youtube and watch this video.

    watch?v=3E29LD98ruo

  • @ikeones And the US has about 12 - 15 million illegal aliens in our country clogging up the ER's and causing lots of other problems.

So basically we are supporting illegal aliens that amount to half of the Canadian population and we are doing it better than you could.

What??? Did you actually do the typical Canadian thing that assume that I don't think we need HC reform???

Well news flash. We do need it. Our HC could be 10x better than it is now. But see, I have to go around....

  • @ikeones schooling children like you. So that takes time away from my schedule.

So how about this little Canadian. How about you stay up in Canada and fall in love with your HC and MYOB when it comes to the HC in the USA.

That way I can fight the dumb people like you that live in the US and get the right HC reform that we need.

Then instead of the US have HC that is more expensive that Canada we will have HC 10x cheaper than Canada.

    How does that sound?

  • ohcanadamovie com

  • If healthcare gets this bad in the US Obamacare will be eventually repelled or their will be civil unrest in the US.

  • So why should you get the surgery first just because you have money? Wait in line bitch.

  • @dodododa If you have the money and your own private doctor... Yes you should get it because you have the money.

  • @rowland2110 No, if you have money you can pay for my healthcare. Share the care.

  • @dodododa Sure.. just as long as you pay for my car with your extra money.

  • @rowland2110 You already pay for my car, I'm on welfare.

  • @dodododa well at least your putting up a good example of how people feel they are entitled to things everybody else worked for.

  • @rowland2110 You have plenty of money because of your rich family or because you got lucky. That isn't fair.

  • @dodododa waaaah its not fair he has a better advantage than me! im going to have cops point guns at his head and give me some of his money!

  • @chorizo1337 The cops don't point guns at you until after you don't pay. And even then, they won't point a gun at you unless you resist.

  • And this woman would have been able to pay for her MRI and her surgery and all this without healthcare or once her insurance dropped her for having a chronic condition?

It's sad that people get sick, but in the current system only the rich get better care than this, the middle class get similar and the poor get ZERO care.

  • @jm2trash apparently you forgot about medicaid for poor people

  • After this story and the Gulf oil spill. Do people really want govt' run healthcare?

  • No health care system is perfect. They all have their problems, but America's is by far one of the worst. We rank under Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, and over 30 other nations in health care, and there are plenty of horror stories about America's health care system out there which this one would pale in comparison to. We're number 37 in health care yet we're supposed to be one of the richest countries in the world.

  • @NashvilleKildCountry Worst as in "number of people covered" Not worst in as far as quality for the people who do have it.

  • The thing about medicine in general is that a lot of conditions are not like this case. Seeing a doctor/doing a surgery will not necessarily make something better.

  • Canada's Obama care?

    also, her story is bullshit.

  • Yes people. The government has more of a right to your money that you worked for than You do. In the middle of a recession, your hard work will be punished. You will pay for the medical bill of strangers in taxes.. or be taken to jail like a violent offender, federal jail, for tax evasion. Enjoy.

  • WAITING A YEAR IS BETTER THAN NOT HAVING IT AT ALL LIKE I HAVE IN THE U.S. i DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE TO WAIT 3-4 YEARS TILL I CAN AFFORD TO GO SEE WHATS WRONG WITH MY HEART.. i agree with most the people on here... Thats like me when i go to the emergency room and they take people who are older and sicker before me... i had to wait 6 hours bleeding b/c other peoepl simply needed it more.

  • @zerenitythoughts AMEN - she would probably NEVER get that surgery in the US. Those who are sicker come first, same as the emergency room!

  • I dont understand how dissing canada's system and trying to convince americns not go uhc helps her situation any. Can private insurance fix her condition?

  • @Oozingmachismo24

dissing canadas system? its dissing the system we will have eventually.

  • @Oozingmachismo24 yea probably

  • For every 1 story like this in canada there are 1000 in the US. Damn republicans believe their own lies

  • I believed he was the anti-christ ,all will be screwed together, over time evevry thing will be bad for you ,no ice cream , nothing sharp, no 4 wheelers , no guns, no hunting, no tobacoo,no burgers, NO FRIED CHICKEN ... REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER

  • This is what we will face. The libs & obama will have control over more of our lives. Roast in hell.

  • That is what we are seeing in the USA too.

  • Give me one example of one person that waited 3 years for a surgery.Oh and yes I want details like what hospital ect.

  • the reason Canada doesn't have enough doctors because Canadian government is too incompetent to touch the labor cartels of medicine, engineering, accountants, etc...

So, every practice in every province has his own rules... so, when Orthopedic Surgeons make $350,000-$450,000 / year, they don't want to hire more doctors and get more surgeries because doctors don't want to see their fat paychecks get shrunk by $20,000 or so...

    total mafia...

  • Obama is just providing free health care its not going to be good health care. If it passes we will end up like canada. We would have to wait to get help from doctors it doesn't matter whats wrong with you they wont care there were other people before you. Then you would have to wait maybe a year, months, days of even hours if your lucky. Hospitals can only take a number amount of people. Thats why people from different countries come here because they don't have good heath care they have free.

  • You'd be lucky to end up like Canada but you guys will screw up whatever you try to implement. You should also try to copy our banking system like the rest of the world has because we didn't need to bail any of them out. USA is just like a damn 3rd world country now. Serve you right for killing so many innocent children in the middle east for oil

  • If anyone believes that Obama can provide unlimited healthcare to every person in the country, cover pre-existing conditions, and never deny a person a medical treatment or medicine, while having only the richest 10% of Americans pay for it all then you are a fool.

What gives you the right to demand that anyone other than yourself to pay for your healthcare?

We already have medicare for the elderly and medicaid for the poor.

Read Atlas shrugged by Ayn Rand.

    We need a John Galt.

  • He can only they are going to pass it on to us in upcharges and Ect. It solves nothing and screws us more.

  • I love how now people don't need to have any responsibility for their own lives. Smoke all you want, eat all you want, drink all you want, do as many drugs as you want. The government will take care of you. Do you want to weigh 500 pounds? You dont ever feel like finding a job? Go right ahead, the government will pay for all your meds and life saving surgery! This country is fucked.

  • @intrepidorator This is about each person carrying their weight. CURRENTLY the richest ARE paying for the sick! CURRENTLY TOP tax payers ARE paying to cover the 80%+ THAT GO BANKRUPT in the u.s. due specifically to medical bills! We covered this in my economy class now that I'm going back for my masters. Currently a family has an emergency, they end up with 200k in medical bills- no insurance, no choice but to claim bankruptcy, who pays the tab? TAX PAYERS, how could we avoided this? insurance!

  • @zerenitythoughts I agree

  • Soooooo.... Were basing our healthcare off of the Canadians?

  • They need to stop these douche bag lawyers. Because of these motherfuckers doctors and hospitals need to pay out the ass for malpractice insurance. What is this bs of people suing for fucking hundreds of millions of dollars?

  • You people are pathetic

  • this crap is not a lie, these are allllllllllll over the place.

faces of government healthcare dot comm

  • liessssssssssssss

  • The point is we don't need obama spending more money. We don't need his health care. They need to attack hospitals stop the price gouge.

  • As a person from a country that has universal health care, it sickens me to think that there are so many idiots in america who don't support universal health care. YOU"RE THE ONLY FIRST WORLD COUNTRY LEFT IN THE WORLD WITHOUT UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE!!!!!

  • @Bandraa1 Canada has the most dope heads in the world, by far, should the USA fall in line and start smoking more dope also ?

  • ur system i crap. alot of your people come over the border to use OUR system.

    point taken.

  • Yo my man. Its bad enough I have to pay for welfare. So wait because all of these motherfuckers don't want to work, I have to pay for them? Don't worry the middle class will just keep paying for it.

  • RECENT POLLS show that 91% of Canadians LOVE their Healthcare system as compared to the present day U.S.

This story is either misleading, or a lie...in certain parts of Canada (Montreal? i think) the healthcare is a little shady but in Ontario and other provinces it is top notch.

So please, dont lie about our healthcare system...the US system is a disaster and people DIE!

  • We all want free healthcare, free food, free education, or anything that's basic need. I love to not working at all and let the government take care of me just as much as everybody else. But if we're all like that then who's gonna provide us with those things we need? It works in Canada for some reason but it apparently doesnt work in the US

  • Thank you. That is the same thing I am saying. As my father who has been an Iron Worker for the past 30 years. The guy who climbs the steel skeleton frames of buildings 40 stories in the air and welds pieces of steel together would say. "I don't know anyone that wants to work" Its bs that people who collect welfare have been living off his back all these years. Now he has to provide them with medical.

  • @quantass An accurate poll that SHOULD be used is to ask people who have had very serious conditions what they think of the Health Care. Asking some healthy individual who may catch the flu once a year, which is about 99% of everyone, doesnt give a realistic representation of the subject. Of course the person who doesnt get sick is going to approve of the system, although they have no real idea if it is good or bad.

  • I'm so glad that people in canada live forever.

  • @quantass Are you suggesting 91% of Canadians have had and used US insurance before? Asking someone that has not experienced both isnt really valid. All you have to do to validate the long waiting times that Canada has is Google whats the average waiting time for a cat scan in Canada and you will find a world of information on it. When looking these over pay attention to the fact each year the waiting time gets longer and the cost goes up.

  • @quantass

This story is true and indicative of the Canadian system in general. The president of the Canadian medical association himself says the system is ïmploding."

  • @quantass

Polls show 80% of Americans are happy with their coverage, so please don't lie about OUR system, which is the envy of the world. Sure we have our problems, but if you get a catastrophic illness, the mortality rates are half that of Canadfa

  • all hail big pharma they!!!!!!!!!big biz will allways do the right thing,,,,,,,,so how much did this cost her? sounds like the doc is the one to be appluded..... so what dose this have to do with the cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is what the problem is

is not care don't let them cloud the issue!!!!!!!!!!!! humans are not stocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And this is typical?

    What Propaganda!

  • What an awful story. I'm glad she got help. I wonder what kind of insurance plan she would have been able to afford as a single mother going to school in the States? I wonder if she would still be on crutches now?

The system IS NOT perfect and many in Canada are lobbying to make it BETTER. As a politician in my country you are committing political suicide if you try and run on a platform that would scrap universal heathcare. Americans are lucky to start from scrap and learn from our mistakes.

  • @ScreaminJoeBlade Your sentiment is well stated, but you made a comment that implies a lot. You said "Americans are lucky to start from scrap and learn from our mistakes". The lesson 90% of Americans will learn from this is any government interference in our health care system will only cause irreversible harm. It is alarming that 15% of the population can dictate to the other 85% how they should take their medicine. Only welfare trash wants this in America.

  • @hualni your statement implies a lot too. Are the 15% you are talking about welfare recipients or the insurance companies? The Canadian system has been in need of a tune-up for years but we are proud that we have a one that strives to ensure that whatever stresses that someone is facing in times like these they don't have to worry that an illness in the family may bankrupt them and put them on welfare. The US doesn't have a "health care system" it has a health care market.

  • @hualni @hualni Are the 15% you are talking about welfare recipients or the insurance companies? The Canadian system has been in need of a tune-up for years but we are proud that we have a one that strives to ensure that whatever stresses that someone is facing in times like these they don't have to worry that an illness in the family may bankrupt them and put them on welfare. The US doesn't have a "health care system" it has a health care market.

  • @ScreaminJoeBlade, "The system IS NOT perfect" That's what everyone says when they create a complex mega-monstrosity they can't get rid of, and isn't working. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all.

  • @Houshalter Our system was created over 40 years ago - no sytem runs perfectly and indefinitely because things change. Matter of fact NO SYSTEM IS PERFECT.Healthcare has always been a hot button subject here as it is underfunded (not mismanaged). No one wants to get rid of it - we want to fix it. It's not that it doesn't work - it needs improving. I'm getting tired of the Canada bashing because US citizens do not trust thier own government. Can't say I blame you. Good luck.

  • 5 STARS!!!!!!!

  • May i point out to all you americans that if wait times for NON LIFE THREATENING procedures take too long and you go to the states guess what happens??

The gov't picks up the bill from the US hospital so either way it is still socialized as we all pay for the treatment regardless of where it is done!

My good friends mother was flown (she paid for the flight) to the Mayo clinic, yeah, a place that even your insurance companies wont send you as its too expensive.

    This video is 100% propoganda.

  • @TorontoCanuck1978

You lie. If a Canadian comes here for a catastrophic illness your gov't does NOT pay the tab and you know it.

  • Only 5 videos thats all you can fine on Moore movie sicko he have over 20000 cases of bad healthcare stories in Emails all in one week and to your countries own studies over 40000 Americans will die because they have no health INSURANCE!

  • one star

  • It's tunnel vision to think that universal health insurance would not take care of peoples needs. Look at the french system. They get excellent health care. People in other industrialized countries are flabergasted over the inadequacy of the system in this country. Get a grip. The cost of health care in this country is exorbitant. If you think the system in this country is good, it is only because you have good insurance, pay up the nose and haven't run into any problems. YET!

  • They get healthcare, but for how long?

  • Thank God we stopped Obamacare!! No Americans want the Government in there private lives telling them what and when you can get an operation or simple health care!

Obamacare is no care at all. It's really simple when the INSURANCE Companies wrote the Bill for Obama, Reid & Pelosi..

  • i cant believe "americans" the ones who dont want to help the less fortunate american with health care, but are happy to spend $1 trillion a year on illegal wars.

  • @antoireland09 thats what fasicist do blame the weak and the poor

  • Great video.. obama lied to get in office and no one is calling him on it.

Nearly every day, conservatives raise the issue of whether ObamaCare is constitutional and every day the White House and their liberals allies react with astonishment that we would even dare ask such a question. We should be asking that question of every piece of liberal legislation that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid try to shove down our necks.

  • We're comming down to the wire, with harry(we've lost the war) reid and nancy(it's 2006, the democrats are in charge and ready to lead) pileosiiii. Unless we contact our congressmen and women, we will not only be strapped with this horrible government run health care program, but we will have to pay for it and get less health care than we're getting now.

  • Do you have any way we can get into contact with this woman or at least confirm that she really ever lived in canada or that anything about this story is true?

i mean, sounds sad, but this is just her word on it's own and i have no idea who she is.

did you happen to interview any of the multitudes with horror stories about private insurance in america for this channel, by the way?

  • obama has truly destroyed our health care system. 21% reduction in medicare pay to docs with a shit load of new taxes added, how can any young doc who has just come out of training survive?? this will no doubt lead to rationing of care for patients. any moron can see this.

  • If she think her health care is bad . Come down to the States walk into a doctors with back pain and tell them you don't have insurance to pay for x rays or mri.

By that story is bullshit. She's an paid actor by Whom...Health insurance..maybe?

  • Kill the 3000 pg Illegal HC TAX & JAIL TrojanHorse Mandate Bill nobody wants.

    Kill the bill..

    Vote em out..

    nobody wants it..

  • I just had shoulder surgery about 3 months ago. From the day I had my injury to my operation was about 6 months. Keep in mind this was non life threatening, and I was still able to function.

  • i'm canadian, and two years ago my hand was pretty much crushed in an accident. took me 8 hours in the waiting room, 4 months for surgery. an injury that if treated properly and promptly would have garnered a full recovery. to this day i can't even do a single push up and i have arthritis in my metacarpal. i'm a 21 year old male. thanks public healthcare!

  • This is a pretty rare case, canada's health care is generally decent. You really wanna compare healthcare horror stories? For every Canadian story there'll be a dozen American ones.

Putting that aside, as far as socialized healthcare goes Canada's is weak, which is of course why conservatives use it and no other countries system for their attacks.

  • This is such a rare case. I live in Canada, and I know for a fact that people with serious conditions are very rarely ignored here. Stop trying to demonize national health care, people.

  • I agree, the service I have gotten in Canada has been fair. I did have a 6 month wait for shoulder surgery, but it wasn't life threatening or really impending my ability to do school so I didn't mind. people don't realize that in the states they would lose their house and saving to healthcare costs, only the rich and ignorant would want private healthcare.

  • The point to take into consideration here is very simple. ObamaCare has nothing to do with improving healthcare in the U.S. It is in fact a radical communist power grab.

There are far superior ways to improve healthcare with out government intervention, competition across state lines for starters.

One should not lower themselves to debate with radical communists. It's like wrestling with pigs. Everyone gets full of mud and the pig enjoys it.

  • This is something I keep trying to wrap my head around. Is it Socialist,. or is it Communist? People call it both at different times.

I agree on the cross-state competition thing. It is ludicrous that it doesn't exist now. It seems like protectionism by the insurance companies or stupid gov't?

We kind of have that here in Canada where the provinces each manage their own care and if one province is better than the other, people tend to go there (which gets charged to their home province).

  • Why does our government and media paint health insurance companies as heartless, greedy people?

We deal with auto insurers every day who aren't greedy, bloodsucking monsters.

    Something's wrong here.

Healthcare insurers PRODUCE something. Of course it's going to cost SOMEONE money.

    Reid and Pelosi PRODUCE NOTHING.

Every dollar they distribute is a dollar seventy-five they've TAKEN from someone else AT GUNPOINT.

Before it's done Obamacare will give NOTHING and take EVERYTHING.

  • How anyone can think Obama care is a good thing blows my mind. Obama care supporters are dumb enough to think they will have better care for less money and never have to wait for services. Wake up America this isn't Star Trek!

  • and then I hope your health care insurance company finds something wrong and tells you you are not covered when something happens to you

  • What specifically is it about the US health care plan that you believe will re-create this issue in the US?

  • Specifically it expands bureaucratic control over health care; just like every other failed government program (think economy, wars, medicare/medicaid, social security all riddled with waste and corruption.)

Like all government monopolies we will lose the choice of alternative care. For decades the AMA and Pharma had favored status and the results are predictably expensive, modalities narrowed to orthodox drugs, surgeries etc. that insure chronic illness rather than prevention and recovery.

  • I, like most people, don't know all of the details. I thought that the idea was that the government would setup some type of alternative to the current insurance providers. I'm not sure that this sets up a monopoly. Are you thinking that the government option will be cheap and popular enough to drive the other insurance companies out of business?

  • No, just the opposite. In fact the insurance companies benefit from government limits on competition. For instance, we cannot buy insurance from a company in another state.

Government always favors big corporations with lobbyists and $ to fund political campaigns.

Government options are never cheap. How can increasing bureaucracy save money?

Look at the waste of pushing flu vaccines; most people don't trust them. Politicians have no medical expertise, they leave it to special interests.

  • The U.S. Postal Service, established in 1775, is broke.

Social Security established in 1935, is broke.

Fannie Mae, established in 1938, is broke.

Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. 44 years to get it right and they are broke.

Freddie Mac, established in 1970, is broke.

The Department of Energy, created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil now has 16,000 employees, a $24 B budget and we import more oil than ever.

Government isn't the solution--they're the problem.

  • On the surface, you seem to have some good points adfish1964. What leverage do we have over the private health insurance provider? We can vote politicians out of office. Each election challengers get the chance to put the spot light on the incumbents mis-management of these programs. If we want to change the ways of a private insurance company, you have to go to court. And who, other than the government, has the time and resources to compete with that of a private insurer?

  • I can totally relate to your private health insurance comment. Blue Cross Blue Shield screwed our family to the tune of $14,000. Even so, the only organization larger and more corrupt is our government. Voting out politicians takes years to change a political majority, much less attempting to overturn a $1 Trillion pgm should this become law. Government-run health care is the greater of these evils. Other alternatives have been offered--democrats have ignored them. Their plan comes first.

  • Government-run health care is the greater of these evils ...

you don't know what this really is, isn't it ?

  • In order to switch to another government run health care plan...i need to move out of the country or wait a long time to hope the majority wants to change it. Or with private health care, I cancel my policy and look for a better more competitive one. Current inconsistencies between state regulations of "private health care" are what removes a companies ability to compete. Or or a new competition to start up. Who in their right mind would try and open up a health care insurance company now?

  • 5 stars!

  • This is simple fear mongering. There are MILLIONS of UNINSURED Americans who will NEVER get surgery and treatment because they can't afford it. This woman's story is NOT the norm in Canada. We need national coverage. Obama's plan is a good one and we need a ROBUST public option.

  • It's not fear mongering, it's a real life story of rationed care you bozo.

  • One horror story is not an effective argument against government involvement in health care. MANY Americans have similar and WORSE horror stories of being denied coverage and bankrupted and even dying from the greed of insurance companies. You are simply regurgitating Frank Luntz's talking points. Without oversight and reform, we are at the mercy of greedy insurance. Don't take my word for it, simply look up Wendell Potter, former Cigna exec, on Bill Boyers Journal.

  • So i guess having corrupt and greedy politicians who have no accountability is much better !Atleast with insurance company's there is some accountability.. Also with the big evil insurance co. they actually creates jobs Insurance co. employ up to 60% of Americans, but i guess that doesn't matter

  • CEOs at health insurance companies aren't accountable to anyone except shareholders. Extreme profit without government oversight has tanked the world economy.

My comments do not support corruption from politicians. Yes, there is greed and corruption ON BOTH SIDES. But in this country, we have the tool of ultimate accountability--elections.

This bill is not a government takeover, as the insurance companies are paying Republicans to say. It will IMPROVE competition and create REAL options.

  • Modern:

I would not call what the health insurers make "extreme profits." 2% is drastically low, and at least if you do business with private companies, you have some competition. If the government gets invovled, they will be setting the prices, that is for care and products, and they will essentially have a monopoly on the system. You should read the bill, because it will not "improve competition," and you will only have one "option." I suggest that you read the bill before debating it.

  • Again, you are simply regurgitating Frank Luntz's talking points, aimed at inflaming fear about "big government takeover." The bill does nothing except keep insurers honest, prices low, access wide, and competition real.

The government will not be setting prices or taking away options. It will force the bloated insurers to compete. By the way, Cigna posted a 7.6 % profit margin. You must either be a paid by insurance companies to falsify information, or you must rely on Faux News.

  • Modern:

I love it when people simply use logical fallacies to argue. First of all, you clearly have not read the bill. It will not keep insurers honest because the government will be among them, prices will rise, access will only increase by a very small margin, and competition will vanish. The insurers are far from bloated, and the government will restrict the competition. I suggest you don't reply until you've read the bill, and at least try to avoid logical fallacies and idiotic claims.

  • Please, enlighten me on my use of logical fallacy. Go ahead, outline it and prove me wrong.

On Nov 9th, The New York Times reported that 7.6% increase in profit margin. I did not imply that Cigna's 7.6% profit margin was industry wide.

Regarding their 8% drop in revenue. True. But, my friend, you were engaging in a fallacy yourself by stating that fact. Revenue is not profit margin. They are different markers of success.

Do you disagree that Fox is heavily biased and twists facts?

  • Modern:

I think you may be confused as to what a logical fallacy is. Stating a fact is not a fallacy, and you mentioning that shows that you do not know what a logical fallacy is. I think that FOX has less of a bias than other media news sources and there is little "fact twisting." Are you claiming that other news sources have no bias and present all of the facts?

  • Modern:

I also wanted to comment on your "Faux News" remark. Mentioning FOX News is nothing more than a cop-out. It shows that you have little relavent knowledge, so instead of debating the subject, you attack your opponent. I also find it laughable that you mention Cigna. I was referring to averages, but Cigna is only one insurer, and they actually had an 8% drop in revenue in the last quarter. Oh, they also have many forgein investors and a good portion of their profits go to share holders.

  • I would say the Frank Luntz's talking points are an excellent example of how insurance companies, Fox "news" and Republicans are doing their best to muddy facts and promote fear. Talk about a cop-out!

Your arguments were simply cut and pasted from his "The Language of Health Care 2009"

It's a clever and devious tactic.

  • muddy facts... i don't understand why people who disagree with the policies of this administration are being led by ether fox,big insurance or republicans! Maybe your being told muddy facts from corrupt politicians nbc or abc news both full propaganda !The simple fact is there is no government run plan from the past or today running the way they said it would . You are delusional to believe this Health Care plan will be any different! ..

  • You keep making statements that cannot be supported by fact. Because government programs don't end up EXACTLY as they are outlined on paper, we should abandon ourselves to the mercy of corporations who care for nothing but profit? Hardly a logical conclusion. Health care should be a right, as FDR proposed in his 2nd bill of rights. Just as taxes pay for police, firefighters, libraries, education, defense, infrastructure and parks and recreation, they should be used for health care costs.

  • really FDR and facts are all around you! Again its not that they haven't worked exactly they havent worked at all !! fFact Social Security is the biggest scam and only helped to control the people! As for the government run organization you point out they are all state run programs not federal plus the majority of them are bankrupt or way over budge! I don't know were you live but they are closing parks left and right.. oh yeah Government runs them great!!

  • Again, baseless statements with no support. It's not enough to make arguments out of fear.

  • If this plan really is about helping people get better health care then why wouldn't there be tort reform and state to state insurance? I mean you have such a problem with insurance company's making money what about the lawyer who file BS lawsuits ! I mean if those two things were in there that would sure help in insurance cost yet its not in there why??

  • im not sure what is baseless if I'm wrong about the ss or madicare or how universal health care in other country's such as the Uk does not work. !Please set me straight what program is running well and what country's universal health care is also running as it should?

  • Another thing all though there are terrible things that some insurance company's have done like cancelling coverage, not cover someone for pre exisisting condition! What about the good things they have done in this country.I can guarantee the good out ways the bad by far! I just find that interesting!. My daughter had heart surgery at 6months and thank god for my health insurance! The surgeon cost 50,000 and they payed it all!!!
