my mother produced all music shows in the 60s from channel 7 in Perth - and i am sorry my sister Joanne was the first wife of Dick Diamond the bass player of the Easybeats
'ilsy74' uploaded a different video of Johnny singing this song ,together with great interview, which explains the origins of this song. Well worth watching too!
Great catchy song sung perfectly by Johnny Young. Loved his music - cheery and uplifting. A very talented performer who went on to become a great songwriter, too, plus top class TV presenter and now a popular disc jockey. Great contributor to the Aussie music scene.
I never understood the lyrics of this song... like most of the lyrics on "Bee Gees First", they're VERY cryptic. Incidentally, that's the Bee Gees singing on the chorus...
@MattHatter - I think it is the other way around the beetles were bee gee ing....with the seargent....LMAO...I never made that connection before.....but I think it may be correct....
@dionysosramon: Well "Sgt. Pepper" was released in June of '67 and "Bee Gees' 1st" was released Aug. of '67. So recording sessions for both albums were probably going at the same time! Ha ha ha.
@MattHatter you should be sure of what you say the Bee Gees had earlier stuff out than that ..........the sound has pretty much remained similar which is why they have been chart toppers for more than forty years.......I have been a fan of theirs from the begining......
@dionysosramon: Oh I've got The Bee Gees' pre-U.S./U.K. stuff. From 1963 to 1966. From "The Battle Of The Blue And Grey" to "Spics And Specks." I know all that stuff! Not sure if the Fabs had heard of the Brothers Gibb back when they started making records. The Bee Gees were just little tykes when they started recording.
@MattHatter - they did actually they more than likely met about 64 or 65 when Bryan Epstein became their agent. You never know where the influences come from exactly like there isn't a map and few people know but I am betting that there was some.
I go to the same school Johnnie Young went to, Perth Modern School in subiaco, he now hosts the radio station in the morning, 93.7 i think it is, i spoke to him on the secret sound xD
Here is one classic I thought I'd never find. Simply great pop song that has stayed in my mind for (gulp) 40 years. That's magic. Thanks Johnny Young....any chance of someone finding "It's A Sunny Day" (power pop masterpiece # 2)?
He is still so cute, but does anyone else think Brian McFadden (Deltra Goodrums boyfriend)looks a bit like Johnny Young? Apart from that, this was one of Johnnys best songs. Thanks heaps.

Nice performance from Johnny..today in 2008 he's a popular radio announcer in Perth Western Australia and I'm sure will return to the pop charts soon..he looks great today and has lost none of his talent..God Bless Johnny!!
Fantastic! Perfect vehicle for Johnny / Johnnie to launch his overseas career, so what happened? The Bee Gees backing is just sensational!! Thanks for this one it's a beauty
I love Johnnies animated stage delivery and his pitchy voice soo catchy and almost like a nursery rhyme like something from a Disney Production. Thx soo much for posting.
Its hard to compare anyone to Robin Gibb's SINGULAR singing style. I get your point. I thought I was the only one who knew this song. Never knew anybody covered it.
You keep coming up with the goods...hard enough to find his version of this song, let alone a video of him singing it.Very very ice..very very nice lol
I really enjoyed this. Thanks to you and to mission509 who shared.

Wow, great voice but on camera he's so awkward. Maybe that was part charm but I always remembered him on YTT being a lot more laid back.

@dionysosramon what year is this song? The BeeGees wrote this?
LastTree 1 year ago
@LastTree - This was a surprise to me so the date is not something I would know and yes the Bee Gee's did write it.

@dionysosramon, I first heard his version around 1967 or 1968 while living in Jamaica, WI.

Didn't think I was gonna like this, but it's appealing. More Sgt. Pepper-ish than even The Bee Gees' original if that's possible.

I like this version. He actually says "Very Very Nice," as opposed to the Bee Gees who say "Vedy Vedy Nice."

Interesting... but Johnny's "golly gee, aw shucks" delivery robs the song of the quirky surrealism Robin Gibb's voice gives it. Still, nice voice.

Great song and singer! As good as anything in the charts in the sixties including the Beatles! I wasn't impressed by DLT's Australian accent!

"Massachusetts," by The Bee Gees. I'd know that violin intro anywhere. :)
