this is all wrong...the southbridge is sb750. its m4a89gtd not m4a89gts. it will do dx11 fine with a graphics card. this mobo is still good. a 5770 will do great on this board.

1 question will this board work with the cooler master haf 922 case, because on the asus website it says that it only has one case fan socket, the haf 922 has 4/5 fans in it.
@xTheDevilinsideUx Im not 100% sure but I think the fans on the 922 case can be powered by fan headers or mollex. Look around a little and u will probably find out.
do not spend any money at mob or cpu soon will see new socket from amd black socket AM3b will take over AM3+ NEW AM3b will have more holes and it will be black color look your self Google AM3b

i would watch it in 1080p but the computer cant handle it its the processor not the screen is big enough for sure it can support 1680x1050 well as far know lol :(
Good morning Wiz! Terrific video; you were instrumental in my buying it. I have a question on the 7.1 sound capability of the board. i've always had 2 and 5.1 speaker sets which have plugged into the 'one green input' so i'm not clear as to how to utilize all the color 3mm inputs.
Are there amplifiers that you would use 7 separate 3mm double male cords to connect between and then run speakers from the amp? What would be the advantage over a single input speaker set? Hope this makes sense :~)
But is it reliable? In half of the reviews of this board people say the front usb doesnt work and when you plug something in you computer will hang in blue screen :S
Im looking for somethingreliable becouse its going to be a build for my parents (:
dumb newbi here ; thought i'd be able to crossfire and old ati 2600 PRO since it supports dx10; that's not so, correct? what is the mimimum to buy on a new gr card? love the vid and my new board; thank you
Great board for the gap between high-end and enthusiast! Stable as a rock, crossfire, 6gb sata, overclock features... this... that... overall awesome. The big downside to it... is that it's crossfire x8 which will result in 5-10 fps less in crossfire.
@FRURMELLL There is no noticeable difference between a 16x and 8x crossfire unless you will always have two top of the line cards and run games at very very high resolutions :) But the current generation of 5000 series (dunno about the 6000 series though:)) dont really utilise the full 16x so 8x is enough. 4x crossfire on the other hand is pretty crap. But yea just got this board too and its super awesome! :P
I do have an question for you PCWizKid... I was told this is a very best motherboard. I was told it can handle the 6 core. is that true. what I am seeking is a bigger and one bad azz kick azz video card to handle any and all games. what card would be the best. I want the best of the best and fill all the slots. so hit me.
Smarter to use the 790fx. The new 890FX is a shortlived and dated chipset. When the 8 core cpu comes out you will see the the 990FX chipset and get the Bulldozer Zambezi will only use the new 990FX CHIPSET cause of the 24gb quad channel memorey configuration.
wait you said it only supports direct x 10.1? so this means the radeon 6870 im getting will be pretty shit? im looking for a motherboard but if this will limit me to direct x 10.1 thats pretty bad isn't it? and you said this will support the 6 core CPU's coming out so that means that my amd phenom II x6 1090T will be ok?
@simoncallender Yes it will. But it is HYBRID CROSSFIRE. It's not as fast a crossfire(x). so i wouldn't do that. Just buy the best graphics card that you can afford and that has also the futures d=from today!
The ACC was just an usual BIOS feature. Now that its potential has been discovered they started marketing it by rising prices for the motherboards that support it. They still haven't improved the mobo's architecture for dual slot video cards. Those whom use dual slot cards still lose acces to pci slots. The blue color for Asus components makes me think they use the same assembly factory as Gigabyte does. People should buy a new mobo for new tech not for eyecandy and fps.
My first time delving in computer-building; I am a novice. I have decided for my mobo to use this Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3.0. I am not a gamer but prefer high quality music sound and vivid hi-def viewing of videos. At this point, I am completely at a loss as to what the perfect AMD processor I should get particularly designed for my purpose yet reasonably priced. (I shall be getting the Asus Xonar D2 Ultra Fidelity 7.1 PCI Sound Card.)
@OmwanaX It's probably a wise choice, to choose a lower-end motherboard. This one is really designed for hardcore gamers, and overclockers. Try choosing a lower end one, then install a 5450 video card, that will do. The sound card is really nice, as well.
@FRURMELLL I recently bought a used Toshiba laptop after my HP crashed, having owned it for three years since brand new. Being used, the Toshiba had problems, and no original Vista Home Premium disc. Someone ordered a replacement disc and did the reinstall. Everything looks nice and okay now. However, Windows Media Player will not play .vob files on my external hard drive. The HP, with a similar Vista version, used to play them. What do I need to do?
hi can you pleaseeeee tell me if that motherboard has a switch so you can turn it on without a case? because im on a very tight budget, so im try to buy as few parts as possible
@fagerbag Really dude, you need to save money for a case. A case is necessary, it will also support the video card, so it doesn't sit in the slot unsecure. Look them up, they're not so pricey. Cases are very affordable.
I've got my eye on this mobo for a new AMD build but have heard there isn't much clearance for a lot of cpu coolers. What is the best cpu cooler for this mobo?
okay dude, i really need your help. which graphics cards support hybrid crossfire. i want to get this board and i want to run hybrid crossfire cuz i dont really want to spend alot more getting a second card. i mean there has to be more cards that support it by now right? (yes im a noob)
@Alex148710 i did some research on it and yeah, only the 5450 supports it, from the 5 series. i think ima end up getting the xfx 4770 since i really dont see any new PC games that grab my attention. that and ima probably get another board. ( the asus 870 evo).
@chrisfur2 I have that board and it's a good one, if you want to save a bit of cash buy a Phenom II X2 555 and unlock the locked core with the board.. I'll change for the M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 though, because of its better overclocking abilities.
@Alex148710 i was looking at the new athlon ii x3 4 something. its clocked at 3.1 from what i know the batch that just came out are denebs. its like 80 bucks or so. i'll take your word and look into it. i just want more than two cores because i plan to play some old games and listen to music and dowloand and all kinds of shit at the same time lol
@chrisfur2 I'm not sure about these new Athlons but I'm pretty sure they don't have L3 cache and very low L2 cache (around 1.5 MB) so you'll be better with a Phenom II X2 555.. Unlock the locked cores and then overclock it.. You'll end up with the performance of a $150+ processor .. For the graphics card, I'll rather go with a HD5750.
@Alex148710 the new athlon ii x3 445 unlock to denebs with l3 cache and everything. or at least the batch thats out right now does. and i was planning on getting the xfx 5750 or 5770, but it depends if i have the cash on hand. if not then the 4770 will do since im not looking for an upper end video card. just something to give me good perfomance.
@chrisfur2 You're mistaken; the Athlon II X3 445 (ADX445WFK32GM) has a Rana core and like I said, no L3 cache and 1.5 MB of L2 cache.. I strongly recommend you to go ahead with a Phenom..
@Alex148710 they unlock into denebs. they are sold as rana's but they unlock into denebs. i would go with the phenom ii x3 720 BE but meh. not really sure. then i'll have to buy a seperate heatsink. if i plan to spend that much might as well get a phenom ii x4 945 or 955
@chrisfur2 Core unlocker doesn't change the core.. It's totally impossible.. I don't know where you have seen this but it's fake.. You can't use core unlocker to change a Deneb into a Thuban, it doesn't work like that.. Athlon II = Rana, Phenom II X2 X3 X4 = Deneb, Phenom II X6 = Thuban..
@Alex148710 its like this, they used normal quad core denebs, and locked a core and locked the L3 cache thus making it into a L3 cacheless triple core. which means a rana, i know it sounds retarded but they do this sometimes if they have demand for a certain product.
they do this if lets say they have more denebs laying around than propus. its called binning, or something like that. they explain it in a video on the NCIX channel.
@Alex148710 i dont really like arguing on little stuff like this, it gets quite annoying the longer it goes. so i dont plan on fighting you or whatever so yeah.
but i do know that some really lucky people have had their athlon ii's unlock into phenom ii's................yeah
@PCWizKid Thanx for the swift reply bud. Is there a list anywhere that shows compatible cards for Hybrid CrossFireX support on this board ?? I checked the Asus site and can't find one..is it only 5XXX cards? And if so, is that the case for all new AM3 boards? thanx
I just got the same board it came in today with a phenom x4 965. I am sooo excited to tweak this thing. I am moving from an older ddr2 gigabyte board to ddr3 1600 so i am hoping I will some some huge results.
4:58 shows Model: M4A89GTD-PRO/USB3 but underneath it shows Chipset 785GX and Southbridge SB750. I thought this board has the 890GX Chipset and SB850 Southbridge. I'm confused.
@PCWizKid Hey, I'm look to buy this board with a 955BE With a large aftermarket cooler (Zalman 9700 or 9900 for overclocking purposes). With that heatsink, would I be able to fit in the new 6870 in the PCI-E slot nearest the CPU socket with that notoriously large aftermarket cooler? I do wish to install a 2nd 6870 a year or so down the road.
@Erhoben, I had no idea PCWizkid reviewed this board. But this is my exact board currently an it's awesome board. Yes you can buy the Zalman CNPS 9700NT cooler. OC the 955BE to 3.81ghz. An have plenty of room for the video cards. Especially if you're only going one card. The first PCI-E will be occupied with a VGA Swtich card that asus provides you with this board. Second PCI-E is where your single video card setup will be installed. The Cooler Sits up high enough for plenty of clearance.
i still need to figure out how to unlopck the other 2 cores on my gigabyte mb . with my phenom X2 black edition CPU.cause i have the 555 phenom X2 black edition CPU.
Hey PCWizKid I'm planning on building an AMD/ATI system with the usual Amd phenom ii x4 955 and xfx 5850 but I was wondering if I should wait for the six core AMD's you were talking about because battlefield bad company 2 just came out and I really want to play it and don't have a computer that could play it close to anything comfortable so I was wondering if you were me would you wait and get the six core?
@wawa779 Well if you remember when quad cores where first released, they weren't clocked as high as dual cores, and they weren't fully utilized (by games) until recently.. I feel like the same thing will happen with hexa core processors. For gaming, you are better off getting a fast tri or quad core than a slower hexa because games don't utilize enough threads yet
Yea thanks I was just kinda of trying to make sure a good quad core like the Amd phenom ii 955 will be able to handle the new dx11 games coming out only reason I even considered it was because I'm not sure of how future proofing the quads are but seeing as how long the dual cores lastest I think I'll be fine going with one now
@wawa779 Well DX11 depends on your graphics card and the 955 is probably the best AMD processor for overclocking.. a lot of people are able to get 3.8 on air and 4 ghz with water cooling. For 160 bucks, that's some impressive stuff :)
@BKsMassive,I already have the ga-790xta-ud4!I'm builiding a pc and before I install the MB I want to make sure that the khx1600c9d3k2/2g will support the MB.
this is all wrong...the southbridge is sb750. its m4a89gtd not m4a89gts. it will do dx11 fine with a graphics card. this mobo is still good. a 5770 will do great on this board.

thanks again.
chrisfur2 1 year ago
@chrisfur2 I'm not sure about these new Athlons but I'm pretty sure they don't have L3 cache and very low L2 cache (around 1.5 MB) so you'll be better with a Phenom II X2 555.. Unlock the locked cores and then overclock it.. You'll end up with the performance of a $150+ processor .. For the graphics card, I'll rather go with a HD5750.
Alex148710 1 year ago
@Alex148710 the new athlon ii x3 445 unlock to denebs with l3 cache and everything. or at least the batch thats out right now does. and i was planning on getting the xfx 5750 or 5770, but it depends if i have the cash on hand. if not then the 4770 will do since im not looking for an upper end video card. just something to give me good perfomance.
chrisfur2 1 year ago
@chrisfur2 You're mistaken; the Athlon II X3 445 (ADX445WFK32GM) has a Rana core and like I said, no L3 cache and 1.5 MB of L2 cache.. I strongly recommend you to go ahead with a Phenom..
Alex148710 1 year ago
@Alex148710 they unlock into denebs. they are sold as rana's but they unlock into denebs. i would go with the phenom ii x3 720 BE but meh. not really sure. then i'll have to buy a seperate heatsink. if i plan to spend that much might as well get a phenom ii x4 945 or 955
chrisfur2 1 year ago
@chrisfur2 Core unlocker doesn't change the core.. It's totally impossible.. I don't know where you have seen this but it's fake.. You can't use core unlocker to change a Deneb into a Thuban, it doesn't work like that.. Athlon II = Rana, Phenom II X2 X3 X4 = Deneb, Phenom II X6 = Thuban..
Alex148710 1 year ago
@Alex148710 its like this, they used normal quad core denebs, and locked a core and locked the L3 cache thus making it into a L3 cacheless triple core. which means a rana, i know it sounds retarded but they do this sometimes if they have demand for a certain product.
they do this if lets say they have more denebs laying around than propus. its called binning, or something like that. they explain it in a video on the NCIX channel.
chrisfur2 1 year ago
@Alex148710 i dont really like arguing on little stuff like this, it gets quite annoying the longer it goes. so i dont plan on fighting you or whatever so yeah.
but i do know that some really lucky people have had their athlon ii's unlock into phenom ii's................yeah
chrisfur2 1 year ago
@chrisfur2 I'd rather go with a HD5750* (stoopid YT doesn't allow me to edit my posts -__-')

hey buddy, nice review.
Thanx for all the info about the board.
I have 1 question. Will this board's hybrid crossfire work with my 4870 cause I am not planning on upgrading to a 5XXX series card until fall..
tsampaola 1 year ago
@tsampaola Hi, No, it will not do what you mentioned with the 4870.
PCWizKid 1 year ago
@PCWizKid Thanx for the swift reply bud. Is there a list anywhere that shows compatible cards for Hybrid CrossFireX support on this board ?? I checked the Asus site and can't find one..is it only 5XXX cards? And if so, is that the case for all new AM3 boards? thanx

PCWizKid, just like to point out that the board you reviewed on this video is a ASUS M4A89GTD not "S" at the end. Great review though!

Hey WizKid!
- Doesn't this motherboard support my 5870's DirectX 11?
- Are 3x2 HyperX 1600Hz optimal for this board? (With Phenom II 965 in it).
-And another question: As for cooling, are there enough space around the cpu slot for a h50 or maybe even a Cooler Master V8?
Thanks a lot in advance WizKid!
Arkhei0s 1 year ago
@Arkhei0s The answer to all your questions is yes.
PCWizKid 1 year ago
@PCWizKid I just find it hard to picture a giant V8 on the CPU with those wave-designs and tree-designs around the slot.
Thanks a lot for the fast reply! :)
Arkhei0s 1 year ago
@Arkhei0s Ya it does you just cannot use dx11 with the onboard graphics chipset thats all.
lamiac2411 1 year ago
@Arkhei0s no dont use 3x2gb because its not dual channel get another 2gb stick if you bought them so then you got 8gb but there in dual channel :)

Erhoben 1 year ago
@Erhoben, I had no idea PCWizkid reviewed this board. But this is my exact board currently an it's awesome board. Yes you can buy the Zalman CNPS 9700NT cooler. OC the 955BE to 3.81ghz. An have plenty of room for the video cards. Especially if you're only going one card. The first PCI-E will be occupied with a VGA Swtich card that asus provides you with this board. Second PCI-E is where your single video card setup will be installed. The Cooler Sits up high enough for plenty of clearance.
x900lbGorillax 1 year ago
@zaini5465 No you can't. You can only crossfire with cards that are within the same series.

Hey PCWizKid I'm planning on building an AMD/ATI system with the usual Amd phenom ii x4 955 and xfx 5850 but I was wondering if I should wait for the six core AMD's you were talking about because battlefield bad company 2 just came out and I really want to play it and don't have a computer that could play it close to anything comfortable so I was wondering if you were me would you wait and get the six core?
wawa779 2 years ago
@wawa779 Well if you remember when quad cores where first released, they weren't clocked as high as dual cores, and they weren't fully utilized (by games) until recently.. I feel like the same thing will happen with hexa core processors. For gaming, you are better off getting a fast tri or quad core than a slower hexa because games don't utilize enough threads yet
PleasurePhRe4k 2 years ago
Yea thanks I was just kinda of trying to make sure a good quad core like the Amd phenom ii 955 will be able to handle the new dx11 games coming out only reason I even considered it was because I'm not sure of how future proofing the quads are but seeing as how long the dual cores lastest I think I'll be fine going with one now
wawa779 2 years ago
@wawa779 Well DX11 depends on your graphics card and the 955 is probably the best AMD processor for overclocking.. a lot of people are able to get 3.8 on air and 4 ghz with water cooling. For 160 bucks, that's some impressive stuff :)
PleasurePhRe4k 2 years ago
Yeah I'm planning on a xfx 5850 because it comes in a good combo with my processor
