It's not about intelligence on a species level. Even if one nations gives up all fighting it requires protection from those who haven't given up fighting. War, it exists in everything and if there are other beings out there they too share it. Animals fight for territory to ensure they have food and water. Some animals kill the babies of the female they want to mate with to ensure their Genes are passed not the other ones. Our fight is no longer territorial, it's now based on different opinions.
