Flashlight Review : Fenix E21

the E21 is tested indepently to 4469lux at 1m on max which is quite good for AA powered light

the eagletac P100a is pretty much the same but with higher output and almost twice the throw tested independently to 7000lux on max which is 177 lumens. Prices are also similar.

good review. Ive been EDCing the E21 for close to a year (in my pocket) and i just did a koppo wrap on it. Is it big? i don't notice it too much it pulls double duty as my light and primary self-defense tool any thoughts on the self-defense aspects of this light?

I just wish that would make a holster that fits it right not something that cost 59.99 on amazon.com...Anyways someone said if the batteries are lose inside.. not true well at least on mine when you shake it you hear nothing..Now i guess we will see if this light can hold to maglite and surefire with out breaking over the next few yrs...

yAH i will say this... the fenix e21 sure gave my maglite rechargeable at 200 lumens a run 4 its money. The only thing is the mag had just a little more reach to it Because of useing a focus beam....Then a buddy of mine came over the other night wtih his surefire 6p, and the fenix e21 out shined/ well lets just say it left it in the dust..Man was he pissed...So yea 2 AA'S not bad but really bright.. and i just order another one for 29.95 from amazon.....

@onalandline YES, they are slightly loose. I shimmed mine with a small piece of paper. That said, for the price and how bright this light is, its a small con that I can live with.

Unlike Cutlover, I keep mine on low setting as its plenty bright for city living. The batteries last forever on low. Love it, 9 out of 10 stars.

I carry a led lesner k3 on my keychain,for around the house I got my led lesner p5 and I also got a picatinny adaptor for it to use on rifle, and a pelican 8060 for outdoor and long distances, I got a nice pouch for it aswell.

Did you get the R2 or the neutral R4 version? I'm planning on getting the neutral version.

The "low" on the R2 is rated at 48 lumens so I would probably use this light most in the "low" mode. Just from the price and specs both versions of this light seem OUTSTANDING for the money.

If you want a similar light (2XAA with dual output modes) that has a lower low setting, the Fenix L2T has the same 150 lumen high mode, but its low mode is only 16 lumens. I've had my L2T for about a year now and have no real complaints. The 16 lumen low mode is a little more fitting as a task light, and then the high mode is good for when you need a lot of output.

I have an LD20 because of all the crap you can get for it (Diffusers, wands, etc) and for the 6 modes. Can't beat the light. Even though I've used it for hours literally and the batteries in it can't crank the max power right now they still do all the other modes.

I also like blinding the shit outta people with the strobe flash. Who doesn't?

Is it comfy, what materials are used to make it, is it durable, is it worth the price, how bright is it, what kinds of batteries it uses, do the batteries last long, what situations is it good in, how much spill and throw does it have, and so on. Sadly, the average Joe is going to look at the price; and wonder why he'd spend about $35 when he can buy a 2AA Maglite at Wal-mart or a 3AAA cheapo LED at the Dollar Store. Especially since the light is only available online. BTW, I used to own an E20. Very underrated light. Gave it away to a CPFer who was very appreciative.

If you want to save money on AA batteries, you can buy Sanyo eneloop NiMH rechargeables. They hold their shelf energy just like alkalines. So you charge them (they also come fully charged) and keep them in your battery box until you need to use them. Even if a year has passed since you charged them. You don't need to grab one and charge it just before using it.
