  • Dude? After you told ppl to disconnect the lower element you forgot to tell them to cap the end with a wire nut to avoid shock or short circuits. Protect yourself from lawsuits. Did you know that some idiot won a 6 mill lawsuit when he set the cruise control on his motor home and left the wheel to go make coffee? The owners manual didnt state that he couldnt leave the wheel. There are too many idiots in the world. You gotta be careful to protect yourself from the less knowledgeable.

  • Thanks a bunch!!! Great tips!!!!

  • Glad to see this. About 25 years ago I was house sitting in a house with an 80 gallon electric hot water heater costing a lot per month. I tried your idea of just turning it off unless I needed hot water. Had same experience: 5 minutes after turning it on I could take a shower - and electric bill dropped way down. I think the bigger element you suggest is a great idea and is giving you something close to an instant on heater.

  • thanks so much for the help!!!!!! our electric water heater went out this morning and your video helped me get a feel for what i was getting into. Turned out to be the Reset button tripped and i was able to find and reset it!!! Happy Holidays !!!

  • Good job, Well done!!!

  • Thank your that was very informative,we can now actually save hydro .

  • Thanks Cactus Bob! Your video was really informative :)

  • Thank you it is very informative video.

  • I don't know how in the hell but I can get 2 days of very hot water with my electric hot water heater shut off using the breaker. I have it in the garage and fully wraped with insullation...pipes and all. I hav 3 kids plus my wife and all showers (24hours later) are STILL too hot and need cold water added. Day 2 showers can be taken with the hot water fully open and still be nice and hot.

We wash clothes and dishes in cold water and bleach.

House is 7 years old with standard builders unit

  • @78cwcaldwell probly shut off wrong breaker or labeled wrong

  • @TeNaCiOuSLeGeNd No. its the correct breaker for sure cause by day 3 its no way as hot as the 1st two days. On a hot day around 80 & up I can even get 3 days but thats pushing it. I hav been very lazy of late and havn't shut it off in a week but I'm going back to 2 days off and 2 on cycle tonight. My house is a small 1 story @ 1850 square feet and on a slab too...(maybe thats got something to do with it???)

  • @78cwcaldwell well it being on a slab probly means the hot water doesnt have far to travel and since the hot water heater would be in the living area of the home and not in basement it probly stays warmer because basements are usually cool. Those water heaters are insulated well. Possibly you have your thermostat set really high and the water gets really hot and takes longer to cool down

  • @78cwcaldwell Turn the thermostat way down if you have to really dilute the 'very hot water' to use same....you could have a 'Scald' issue with those kids better safe than sorry ...

  • Thanks for the great video. Good job.

  • This is what the power company won't tell you!

  • Great and simple.

  • Thank you for the upload very much!!

  • very very helpful with ur advice, thank u man

like u said i never never heard about it before , but i will try it, thanks again.

  • Man, thank you so much for taking your time to do this...I never considered using a 5500 before (b/c of course the manual doesn't say to do so) this makes total sense though...thanks man! do you have any thoughts about why my electric water heater is getting a High water temp reading on my diagnostic panel? any help would be much appreciated...thanks bud!

  • thank you.
