There are worlds out there were the skies are burning, where the sea is asleep and the rivers dream. Hills made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace! We've got work to do.
@DrWhoDamien As I understand it, just like the sound that the Tardis makes since episode 1 in 1963 is the same as the one it does today, Dr. Who's music theme has always been the same with slight alterations
Very sad....personally, I consider this the end of Dr Who....I just can't seem to get into anything after....the spotty movie was sorta ok in parts but failed to hit the mark and the new series just disappoints in too many ways....though I have to admit I really really miss the classic Doctor Who and can rewatch those episodes over and over again....
@templar44 I have to agree with you on all points. The new series disappoints on so many levels, despite a few good moments here and there. I walked away from it about a year and a half ago and I do not miss it. I came to feel it was just a farce that was dressed up as a show called Doctor Who.
I had thought before that the wait for the revival of STAR TREK was long, but that was only nine years, from 1969 to 1978. I waited sixteen years, from this scene in 1989 to the first episode with Christopher Eccleston in 2005. Sometimes, rarely, if you love something enough it will return to your life if you can manage the patience to wait.
The only thing I have against McCoy as a doctor is that it took him some time to find the real doctor within him. In the first few serials he was exactly like mister Bean. After that he was very awesome.
On the other hand, all doctors take some time before they find the real doctor. Pat Throughton had the exact same problem for me.
@Drecon84 apart from eccelston and Hartnell i think ALL the Doctors really shift a gear and becoem way better in their second year onwards. same thing happened with tennant and Smith. i was apprehensive about both of them in series 2 and series 5 but then ins eries 3 and series 6 i fell in lve with them
The last two Doctors of the Classic Series were given really poor scripts. One only has to look at BBV's stronger stories to see that these could have been some of the greatest Doctors of all time - they had the skills, they had the persona, they merely lacked the material. I love this ending scene but do not like that it spelled the end or how it came to be that way.
@2206411411 especially given how good the last season was i mean it had brilliant stories in it. also big finish demonstrate the skill of mccoy and baker
@DarkXaven Poor Colin, he asked for an outfit to match the Doctors newer, darker personality. He wanted something akin to Ecclestones outfit. Instead he got lumped with a leftover circus tent.
Sylvester McCoy had a certain power that none of the others could match. It was so easy for him to be the buffoon, then he suddenly turned into someone you did NOT want to mess with. It was perfect for the Doctor.
@Intrudinator in truth he didn't die because he was shot. He died because when he was taken to the hospital, the medical staff on duty attempted exploritory sugery, despite the Doctor's pleas that it would kill him, because the Doctor has two hearts. They went on with the sugery, killed him, and hours later he regenerated, because the anisthetic slowed down the process.
do you know I am getting married this year and this is the reading my friend is doing for me it say life to me and DOCTOR WHO did live on in book and so on and now it back on tv yes
@GlasgowGamer101 there are books and audio plays, that sort of thing, which fill the gap. They can be designed for widely varying tastes though, the story I read had Ace having sex with a random guy she met lol
There are worlds out there, where the sky is burning, the sea's asleep and the river's dream. A hill made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. C'mon Ace, we've got work to do
What sucked about this was the first 2 season under Sylvester McCoy was gawd-awful but the 3rd and last season was really good. Survival and Ghostlight were my favourite.
@eateroftheflame If they didn't do Paradice Towers, Delta and the Bannermen, The Happiness Patrol and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy then the McCoy era would've been really good .. I said to a mate of mine before, saying that, yeah sure, Doctor Who should've took a break .. but imagine that they took a year long break and returned with a 10 story series freaturing the 7th Doctor, Ace and Hex ..
kicking off with The Harvest .. WHAMM!!!! veiws shoot up really high : )
@TheHutchhickersGuide That would have been great but they already had ideas for the next series which involved Ace leaving and being replaced with a safe cracker, Big Finish is making them in the lost stories range at the moment
@TheHutchhickersGuide No. Not in the slightest. Just that almost everyone who I've heard comment on it has done so negatively. And it didn't much impress me when I watched it.
@marthavell you mean final 4 because battlefield by not be as clever as the other three it is just so much fun and pure awesome in every corner, the scene in the circle is one of my favourite Who scenes ever
However I rate Fenric as the best classic story ever along side Androzani
There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream. People made of smoke, and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there’s injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace — we’ve got work to do!
They never intended for that to be the final line of the old Doctor who. They always thought they'd get another series or two. However, unintentional or not, there couldn't have been a better final line.
@pickering86 From what I heard, they filmed this episode without this line, and when they learned about the cancellation, they filmed this final scene to end the show on. I can't remember if they filmed it completely then, or if they just had Sylvester Mccoy come in to record his new closing lines as audio.
And so , what we now call the Classic Series of Doctor Who had come to a nice end .
Interestingly , Sylvester , Sophie and everyone else who worked on the Show at the time believed they would return the following Year in 1990 to work on Season 27 , there where Plans for 27 written up and other stuff , but sadly as we know it got cancelled .
The cancellation of Doctor Who is talked about on the Survival DVD , and it turns out , Doctor Who was never officially cancelled .
I was once asked what Doctor Who story would I watch before I died and I said this one, simply because i felt this beautiful final scene was the perfect last thing to hear as you breath your last.
@tkearton15 Yes, that's why he used it as a quote. In the case of Four's regeneration it meant the end of one life but not the end of the Doctor himself. Here, it meant the end of Classic Who, but there was still a movie to come, many books and audio dramas and then eventually the new series.
They should have brought back Sophie Aldred during either the Ninth or Tenth Doctor's run. Just to conclude Ace's story.
