If people go to a Thrice concert just knowing a few songs, they wont have the best time. To truly have the best time of your life you have to listen to all their albums, all their songs. Because they're all amazing and different and if you do that and go see them you fall in love.
This is definitely a day I'll never forget. Got to hang out with them and friends all day while doing the benefit walk and got to witness this in person afterwards. I remember they played like 30+ songs and had to take a brief intermission inbetween because it was such a long set. Can't believe it was almost 8 years ago!
I understand the concept of progression and having to stop playing older songs; but the opening line of this song still has merit for them even now. Anything you create will never be as good as the idea of it. Sure, it was written during a time of adolescence and disillusionment, but the lyrics hold true for them even now. It's a great song that should not have gotten retired. Deadbolt, probably.
First Impressions, Identity Crisis and Illusion of Safety are the only albums in my iPod... the rest of their music after IOS was 100% sh!t... T&C is the song that plays the most while I'm snowboarding, riding my supersports bike, studying or making babies!
@deepdriedspam You are joking right? They've made all their best work AFTER IoS. How can you even compare Daedalus to any song on First Impression? Honestly, they aren't even playing in the same dimension, not musically nor lyrically. People like you just need to grow the fuck up and realize that just because a band progresses, doesn't make it bad. I still listen to everything back to IC, but First Impression is simply, not good. Anyone with a half a sense of what music is, will understand this.
@johnnyoak Dude you don't understand punk music and neither does thrice. Its more than just powerchords and teenage angst (which I think is what Thrice concluded what punk was and left it behind). Country music conveys a lifestyle and mindset, which is why I could never get into it. Its what it stands for. To truly live and see.
They were always an experimental band, b4 they experimented with time signature, now with texture. Their newer stuff is deeper but they left all the passion behind.
@OMFGallusernamesgone Or maybe they just progressed as musicians, and started producing some decent music. Nice subjective trivia on country music, what does it have to do with anything?
You haven't listened to the new material, have you? Lost all passion? Please. Listen to the latter part of Daedalus (just an example) and lets revisit that statement.
@johnnyoak I was trying to say that country music makes many cringe b/c it conveys a lifestyle. As does punk, its more than powerchords, its a mindset. I love new thrice, except beggars.
Daedalus is NOT passionate compared to their old stuff. Maybe you meant Like moths to a flame? THAT was a passionate song. I don't know... listen to To Awake and Avenge the Dead and then All the World is Mad or even Daedalus and tell me which one has more passion in it...
@OMFGallusernamesgone Separate punk MUSIC, from punk culture. They are two very different things. You need to revisit what passionate means. Besides you are actually proving my point, since in my opinion Vheissu is their best album so far. You seem to think that just because a song is in a slower pace it takes away the passion. This is hardly true, dig deep enough you'll understand why. Are you honestly saying that you don't hear the immense passion in Dustin's voice as he cries "Oh gods!"?
thrice was my favorite band>>>>WAS>>>> their new stuff is weak, I have broke 4 noses at 4 thrice shows, now you sit and hold lighters and drop acid. not my thing, keep punk alive!!!!!
Haha I was pretty much at every local show up until the Artist Ambulance tour and heard this song every time. Then out of nowhere they turned into some wannabe Pink Floyd. I lost interest there.
yea but then again, songs are different live than they are on the album. i just mean it would be cool to see them play something like "where idols once stood" or "subtle dagger" cuz it would sound much more epic in my opinion than on the album. but yea if it was me, i would probably just play what i wanted too
They're releasing their 8th studio record, this song was off their first. You have to realize they have to stop playing old songs to make room for the new ones. Plus, it's a totally different band, not physically..but musically. They're so much more mature now.
yes, as is to be expected. you are completely right and i hate how people have problems accepting that with not just thrice, but other bands as well. thank you for not being a dumbass. haha : )
@Mistere19021 yeah I know that and I love them, but it would be nice to hear anything off their first two albums in a concert. They only reason I see them not doing it is Dustins voice can't take the punishment of doing every night. I've been to three concerts of them and heard the exact same songs.
@resincoatedlungs yeah cause corporate bands record in home built studios in their lead guitarists garage, go from island def jam to an independent label and publishing company, and mostly tour as a supporting act for bands like brand new, and alkaline trio. i finally got to see them on their headline tour tho, so happy. theyre the anthesis of a corporate band. if people cant appreciate what they turned into, thats their loss. theyre still making great records. and ive been there from the start.
that's good. i still appreciate first impressions to the artist in the the ambulance. "Come All You Weary" is pretty decent to, but aside from that.. No.
@Mistere19021 I understand what you're saying dude. And you're completely right, they are a different band now.. I don't like their new stuff, only because they carry the name Thrice, which, when I think of that name, I hear their old school, punk tunes. I do like their new music, I just wish they would have a different band name, because there Is nothing the same. Some songs don't even use the whole band anymore, to me, that's something I can't get my head around.
@PoLaRIV totally agree with you... this is a rocking song and they should play it live... it's better than half of the shit of they've put out in the last five years.. the dual solos at the end are fucking awesome....tried listening to Vheissu and i couldnt stand it... I mean i listened to the Artist and it has a few good songs on it. But thats it. I mean i was laughing when i saw that they still performed DEADBOLT!!!!! funny as shit... cause its slow as shit.... and it lacks feeling.
@CrunchyTuesdayface why am I ignorant?? because i stating a fact... They play only 2 songs from The Illusion Of Safety album now... (Trust and Deadbolt). Trust seems fine with their present style but Deadbolt lacks energy and enthusiasm. I mean dude i saw Thrice blow Face To Face and AFI off the stage.in their hey days... and its just a shame that they dont play more of their older songs with um mph!!!!
@bustanube thanks man... i dont mean to piss people off but dude their newer material doesnt do it for me.. i miss their older style... i only wished they played more of their older material.. but their at spot in their career when they want to experiment more than anything.
Im kind of curious does anyone know the real reason they stopped playing this song in particular? I can understand getting bored of playing it all the time but why never play it again?
I think they stopped playing everything off Identity Crisis, possibly because of the tunning? Not 100% sure, those songs were all in standard if Im correct, then they moved to others.
So dumb that they don't play songs off of Identity Crisis anymore. Fans want to hear it, so why not do it? I know many bands who still play their older stuff because they do it for the fans.
i dont really like identity crisis too terribly much but i see what you're saying. people are paying them to play and thrice should play what the crowd wants to hear. if not all the time, at least sometimes.
part of the reason why there new stuff isnt as heavy is most likely cause there getting old and tiered, dont get me wrong they can rock (saw em in concert a week ago) but they looked tiered as fuck when i saw em, only played like 6 songs =/.
Amazing song, why would they retire it? Man, the duelling solos and the guitarwork and just everything here beats what Avenged Sevenfold or My Chemical Romance try to do with their guitars by a million times.
That was the best night of my life. I will never ever ever forget the amazing people at that show. Everyone in that crowd keeps the true meaning of music alive!
