@2557shane pussy. This is typical CSX operations. Slave drivers. Work their crews 20+ hours strait, give them 2 hours of sleep, then expect them to work flawlessly for another 20+ hours with no breaks. I used to work for the CSX, and I would be dead by now had I not quit and left for NS.
Why are you lot over there always crashing your trains? RIP to the conductor of course, always sad to lose a fellow railwayman no matter where they are.
Wow that was alot of trashed locomotives!! I hate seeing the 70macs tore up. Cuz they will be replaced with boring Gevo's:(. But most importantly my heart goes out to the family who lost a loved one.
Two CSX cargo trains crashed head-on in the early morning fog Monday, killing the conductor of one train and injuring three other CSX employees, including a conductor from Bartow.C.J. Jones, 28, a conductor from South Florida, was killed in the 2:30 a.m. crash in Richland, east of Zephyrhills
I work for CSX and it's a miracle things like this don't happen often.I hit a loade propane truck with 3000 gals. I walked away from it but I thought It was my lasy day...
Hey is this the one where the dispatcher was giving the wrong train number on the track warrent because the conductor got sloppy? Or was that another one? I'm not sure because I think the conductor may have lived in that one, but I forget.
regardless of what the truck drivers want you think, it is trains that move this country. This great conductor gave his life in service so that you can have food, light, heat, electricity and pretty much everything in your house. Just think about that
200 ton locomotive plus weight of cars empty or loaded equals horrific Damage,Death not to mention maimed persons for life in the path of it I'm always cautious around any train or associated tracks, crossing ,etc.. Remember you usually don't have a second chance when it comes to a train!!
the sad truth about railroading, no matter how much technology we get, no matter how much methods improve, accidents still can and do happen. The best we can all do is learn from our fallen comrade's mistakes and move forward.
Yes but sadly "Safety first" doesn't always exist in alot of peoples minds especially when it comes to trains. They'd rather be stupid, ignorant & impatient instead of waiting for the train to go by. They're to over confident thinking they can make it. When in reality they can't & usually don't.
My uncle is a railroad engineer. Hes the only person it seems like that works for marc, acommuter rail line that hasent hit anyone. His friend hit a woman commiting suicide and my uncle was two trains back from his friend. Not just derailments happen, hitting people in cars, hitting bikes and pedestrians.
Yeah I work for BNSF. One of my co-workers sent me this via e-mail. I find it kind of offensive to state that a conductor was killed in this train ACCIDENT and then blame the conductor for it. I don't know how anyone else sees it but to me, all train men are my brothers and hearing about an accident like this is like hearing that your brother was killed. Very Tragic.
Amen. I am not a conductor, nor engineer. But i AM a railfan, and I love the rails as much as you guys do. and to those that want to blame the conductor, screw you! Unless the report determines that, you don't know if it was a dispatch mistake, air pressure failure, signal malfunction, shit like that. That and.. it would take damn near a mile to stop a loaded train @ 55.So I'm with you. Very tragic loss. The rail community misses you!,

First off, who ever put this song to this video is a dumb ass. Second, I work for the railroad and I can tell you that trains can stop in relatively short distances. Train brakes and braking systems these days are superior compared to what they once were. There is no excuse for an accident like this happening anywhere in the U.S. these days.
True in saying brakes are more superior, but doesn't mean the disptacher are conductor taking the paper work is. As someone who works for the railroad, you probably have had to watch those boring safety videos, or I did. It's pretty easy for a dispatcher to mess up or the conductor to miss interprut the paper work. I have seen many people get 30 days off or even fired for making stupid mistakes. It's not usually equimpent failure but human error.
or, trains cant stop in 2 seconds like cars, it can sometimes take over a mile for a train to stop. Next time learn about simple physics befor making what looks like a smart ass comment.
This is even worse than the derailment that happened in Indianapolis. It all started on a peaceful Sunday night everyone in bed at around 3:00 in the morning a set of railcars rolled down from the Avon Big Four Yard because somebody didn't do their job and tie them down. The train was coming from Buffalo NY was coming towards the Big Four when the cars rolled on to the mainline. The derailment happened on Girls School Road. Go to youtube and type in Skarkot. I feel bad for the conductor that die
(continued from below) most locomotive engineers are union and when their clock hits 12hr that train STOPS; as a rule EVEN IF it ties up major intersection the rr cos contract (usually) transport to relieve the engineer and overnight lodging or transport home as the case warrants fatigue is seldom a reason for a runaway train, runaway truck, yes
both truckers and locomotive engineers have my respect in that order, they gotta pay their bills and feed their kids, local truckers got it hard because they have to be home daily; as a rule...continued above
(cont. from below)...But hey fatigue is just a myth according to the railroads and most trucking companies. We are the guys out here busting our butts and putting our lives on the line just so everyone else can have a job and the stuff they enjoy in thier home life. When you have post like some more worried about the locomotives instead of the ppl who died its a sad day. If you eat it, drive it, sit on it, watch it, etc it was brought to u by a railroader or a truckdriver so show some respect.
First off my hats off to Conductor C.J. Jones - RIP. I'm not a railroader, I drive a delivery truck in Wilmington, DE and it isn't no better for us either. I get up 3am every morning, on the road by 3:30am, hour ride up to Wilmington from our plant, Make my deliveries 10-15 stops avg, then an 1 hour and 15 min ride back (rush hour traffic), after all this I might get home by 5pm. With all the stuff at home I might make it to bed by 10-11pm just to get up at 3 to do it all again.....
People working the railroads literally move America. Their jobs are tough, the hours long, and too often, at the expense of the corporate bottom line, are forced to push the limits - with often tragic results. Thanks for reminding us of the risks they take every day on the job.
Thanks for you comment, you are absolutly correct. We work long hours, way to often. We put safety first but, fatigue sets in and tragedy hits. Thank you :)

Please understand that I just did this vid. as a tribute to a fallen brother. I am just an amateur and I didn't care about how the vid turned out. Yes it's Repetitive, yes it even kinda dumb. I care about the person and I didn't even know him.
hey I am insluted dont judge a whole country because of one stupids comment I put two comments on here and I am happen to be from canada R.I.P to the fallen railraoder
I didn't say I don't feel sorry for these people, just that everyone dies sooner or later, in more or less tragic ways. I'll die too. You too. The producer of the video too.
Very touching tribute. And also true its not just a job. I am a farmer and i think in the sameway. Its more than just a job, its how you are through and through.
Sucks to see a brother fall. Rail needs to see past EOE! Chicken Shit X-press is the worst of all. Gov't kick-backs only lead to death in this modern service. Rail....picking up what truckers won't!
I know the trucking industry it is not that truckers won't pick up what rail gets. You have it back words. The people shipping the stuff won't pay the truckers what it worth to pick up. Besides interstates could not possibly handle the added traffic if they did pick it up. Do you work on the rails?
I guess you do I just looked at your profile. Truck drivers have it bad to. It is hurry up and wait everywhere. You bust your ass to get to receiver that wont unload for 17hrs on average. Hard to make a living like that and be legal on log. There needs to be a marriage between rail and trucks union. Undo deregulation or something I don't know.
But I know what you're saying - the video is just to showcase the editing / photography talents of whoever compiled it... but doesn't really tell the story of WTF happened!
i RECENTLY SAW A CABOOSE ON THE INTERNET IN SOME TOWN that belonged to csx and said look listen live and safety first but appeartly that isnt the case and the caboose should be brought baCK INTO SERVICE AND TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION MRMCRAILROADER THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN PAINESVILLE OHIO AND 2 BNSF UNITS WERE LEADING
Sad that C.J. Jones lost his life. But I'm alarmed at the numerous accidents along the CSX System, including here at home at Painesville Township where they derailed tank cars with ethanol and exploded. Luckily I didnt have to evacuate but thousands did. CSX needs to really work on its safety rather than profits and bonuses for management.
CSX does stress safety!! bonuses and profits are not the #1 focus. The R.R. is just plain dangerous. Always has been, 1000's of moving parts w/ steel wheels and steel rail. Thier safety record is getting better. When did those ethanol cars derail? Thanks 4 u'r comments.
So, the train wasn't actually a runaway. The crew overran their authority. They could have stopped and should have stopped but due to fog, and probably fatigue they didn't. Doesn't CSXT use cab signals? I would think cab signals would have overcome the fog factor. We don't use cab signals on bnSF so I don't know if that could have been helpful to the crew or not.
WOW... that is brutal. This really hits home. I work for a short line, and recently a UP crew didn't tie there hand brake on a ballist car, and it rolled onto our tracks, hitting the consist at aprox. 40 mph. Freakin scary deal. No one was hurt (thank God). I was changing ties where it came through just 2 days before. That would have been painful. The worst part of it all after, UP came onto our line with any kind of athority from dispatch.
Thankyou MRmcRaioroad for posting this I know how the family feels losing someone I lost my brother a in OCTOBER 2007 IN A CAR CRASH AND ITS SAD AND THIS VIDEO IS A TRIBUTE TO CJ Jones and the rest of the hardworking Railroaders Thankyou
Hey thanks for posting this video!! Guess some people have no conscious??? I have been on the RR for 10years now most as a conductor, and some as an engineer!! This video leaves me a sick feeking in my stomach. Just this week with the Amtrak accident, life is just too short!! My thoughts are with the family of Brother Jones, hope this never happens again!!
Your welcome, that is what this vid is for. To remind the public, that our jobs are very dangerous. Many people don't realize how much so. Brother Jones went to work that night with plans to return home. We all get three step, we all follow the rules to best of our ability, but some times, things can happen so quickly. C.J. was loved by many of his co-workers.
Fog was the main factor. The crew did overrun thier athority because of the fog, they got past the stop. Two different subs. they were on different radio channels therefore, the call to the opposing train was not heard by that crew. Nov. of 2004 is when it happened.
C.J. Jones, 28, a conductor from Carol City in South Florida, was killed in the 2:30 a.m. crash in Richland, east of Zephyrhills and about five miles west of North Polk County.
The northbound train, en route to Wildwood from Miami, was headed by two locomotives pulling 60 cars of rock used in construction.
The southbound train, traveling from Georgia to Mulberry and Tampa, was headed by two locomotives pulling 136 cars filled with a variety of goods.
What type of locomotives were pulling the trains and was there any foreign or pooled power on the trains like Ns up Bnsf etc SD402'S GP38'S DASH 9'S ETC
this is sad to watch knowing someone passed.

Let this be a reminder to those who play chi-
ken with trains while driving through rail-road crossings. As the video illustrates,
locomotives having such power and the a-bility create such a mess, imagine a loco-
motive crashing into a passenger vehicle or even into a tractor-trailer!
cinemaphiliac 4 years ago
Pardon the appearance of the previous reply,
but the message being conveyed is never to
challenge a train under any circumstances,
for the results can be ultimately fatal.

Rail....picking up what truckers won't!
spite6669 4 years ago
I know the trucking industry it is not that truckers won't pick up what rail gets. You have it back words. The people shipping the stuff won't pay the truckers what it worth to pick up. Besides interstates could not possibly handle the added traffic if they did pick it up. Do you work on the rails?
markeez23 4 years ago
I guess you do I just looked at your profile. Truck drivers have it bad to. It is hurry up and wait everywhere. You bust your ass to get to receiver that wont unload for 17hrs on average. Hard to make a living like that and be legal on log. There needs to be a marriage between rail and trucks union. Undo deregulation or something I don't know.
markeez23 4 years ago
how exactly was he killed?
sonconmas 4 years ago 2
I'll state the obvious: train wreck.
But I know what you're saying - the video is just to showcase the editing / photography talents of whoever compiled it... but doesn't really tell the story of WTF happened!

Mrmcrailroad, The train accident here was Oct 10th. Shut the line down for 4 days.

i RECENTLY SAW A CABOOSE ON THE INTERNET IN SOME TOWN that belonged to csx and said look listen live and safety first but appeartly that isnt the case and the caboose should be brought baCK INTO SERVICE AND TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION MRMCRAILROADER THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN PAINESVILLE OHIO AND 2 BNSF UNITS WERE LEADING
Trainmasterkreks 4 years ago
Sad that C.J. Jones lost his life. But I'm alarmed at the numerous accidents along the CSX System, including here at home at Painesville Township where they derailed tank cars with ethanol and exploded. Luckily I didnt have to evacuate but thousands did. CSX needs to really work on its safety rather than profits and bonuses for management.
NSCORP 4 years ago 2
CSX does stress safety!! bonuses and profits are not the #1 focus. The R.R. is just plain dangerous. Always has been, 1000's of moving parts w/ steel wheels and steel rail. Thier safety record is getting better. When did those ethanol cars derail? Thanks 4 u'r comments.

his soul shall rest in peace fof ever.
sonconmas 4 years ago 3
i agree
sonconmas 4 years ago
So, the train wasn't actually a runaway. The crew overran their authority. They could have stopped and should have stopped but due to fog, and probably fatigue they didn't. Doesn't CSXT use cab signals? I would think cab signals would have overcome the fog factor. We don't use cab signals on bnSF so I don't know if that could have been helpful to the crew or not.

that really sucks i love all of those locos the car on the loco is pretty wicked though
tmorrow64 4 years ago
WOW... that is brutal.

DID THE tRAINS HIT HEAD ON AND WHERE THEY ON THE SAME TRACK

MRMCRailroad:
Hey thanks for posting this video!! Guess some people have no conscious??? I have been on the RR for 10years now most as a conductor, and some as an engineer!! This video leaves me a sick feeking in my stomach. Just this week with the Amtrak accident, life is just too short!! My thoughts are with the family of Brother Jones, hope this never happens again!!
CSXHATER 4 years ago 3
Your welcome, that is what this vid is for. To remind the public, that our jobs are very dangerous. Many people don't realize how much so. Brother Jones went to work that night with plans to return home. We all get three step, we all follow the rules to best of our ability, but some times, things can happen so quickly. C.J. was loved by many of his co-workers.
mrmcrailroad 4 years ago 2
WHAT year and what month did the accident happen in? how did the derailment start?
Trainmasterkreks 4 years ago
Fog was the main factor. The crew did overrun thier athority because of the fog, they got past the stop. Two different subs. they were on different radio channels therefore, the call to the opposing train was not heard by that crew. Nov. of 2004 is when it happened.
mrmcrailroad 4 years ago
Where were the Trains heading to?
Trainmasterkreks 4 years ago
The southbound train, traveling from Georgia to Mulberry and Tampa, was headed by two locomotives pulling 136 cars filled with a variety of goods.
mrmcrailroad 4 years ago
Yes thankyou and i do believ there was an sd60 or sd70 and an sd40 or sd402 and what town and state did the derailment happen in?
Trainmasterkreks 4 years ago
On the Vitis sub in Zephyrhills, Fl.
mrmcrailroad 4 years ago
What type of locomotives were pulling the trains and was there any foreign or pooled power on the trains like Ns up Bnsf etc SD402'S GP38'S DASH 9'S ETC
Trainmasterkreks 4 years ago
I belive they were all CSX, as for the type I really don't know. Wow, You sure know some stuff about engines.
