  • "You've broken the speed of the sound of loneliness" Beautiful poetic line.

  • My all time favorite song. Says it all for me.

  • Good rendition of a great song!

  • great voices!

  • I have never heard a song with such strong words of emotion!!! Best music video!!!

  • Such a soulful, haunting song - beautiful!

  • Johnny, I love you

  • This is so good. it makes me feel good, even when I don't feel so good!!

  • This song is from one of the best cds ever--"Other Voices, Other Rooms" Glad I picked it up on a whim years ago...

  • good on you its definetly not bad a life i wish you less pain in your future romances ,by the way i love the song

  • I am living this life. It's not so bad--it's the first time I've felt alive, like a woman, in years. It takes a man to make a woman feel alive, and I am so grateful to the men in my life (there's not that many--but each one has given me a special gift--I so appreciate and love them for these precious gifts). What's come over me? I am living a real woman's life, and I love it. It's worth the effort and the pain. C in San Antonio

  • classic nanci

  • Easily in my top 100. Lyrics, melody, artists - all uniquely suited for the message that I hear. Go on John and Nanci...

  • Beautiful.........I too heard this on BBC series Case Histories, there has been some beautiful music on this series, this being one .......thank you for sharing:)

  • Heard this on the BBC series, Case Histories - just beautiful !

  • superb.

  • tfe423: Re your question about how in hell did someone get John Prine to put on that ridiculous angel outfit--If Nancy Griffith asked you to do it, I BET YOU WOULD, as would any red-blooded man. Right?

  • @mellorslover I am with you 100%, my friend.

  • ecspression?

  • Hey Steve. Your a fucking idiot. I wasn't making fun of John Prine . I was only saying it seems a little outta character for him to put on on outfit like that and that someone prolly had to talk him into it

That being said why don't you shut the fuck up you faggot

  • What I wanna know is how in the hell did someone get John Prine to put on that ridicules angel outfit

  • @tfe423 Have you ever heard the ecspression,,If you dont have anything nice to say,,shut the fuck up

  • Two of the best artist if you cant feel their music you are dead.

  • to: mountainman I finally got your message 6 mos later. It's been a couple of months since. Thank you. lynnpwest

  • Great job loved it all!

  • @debbieswinyer Totally wonderful mixture of voices

  • Does anybody know what year John Prine perfromed at Navy Pier in Chicago? It was one of the best live performances I've seen, very small crowd, though, I just can't remember what year it was or who else performed. Anyone know how I can find out the year, Thanks.

  • Definitally in my top 10 of all time,no surperlatives are adaquit

  • I could listen to this duo all day...

Hey, at 2:33, that pyramid-shaped tomb that Nancy is approaching: Isn't that the same one that was in the next-to last scene of the 1979 Peter Sellers movie "Being There"? Anybody know where this video was shot?

  • The best version of one of the best songs ever written.

  • It just don't get no better!

  • What a combination.Surely two of the best country singers around, and what abeautiful haunting song.

  • i love this song.... i think it may be about all of us in some way, i use this sentence all the time with friend's and family.......What Have You Done ??? lol.......it's all gonna be o.k. p.s love jen-jen

  • What a beautiful song! Just Awesome.

  • one of my favorite songs ever

  • One of the best songs ever sung by 2 of my all time favorites! ... and one of the worst video concepts as well.

  • @alienhuman The video is supreme you mug.

  • @saxby01 and your opinion trumps mine? I don't think so. ... you mug LOL

  • @saxby01 agreed

  • Love this ! Nanci and John together are one of my favorite combos !

  • I like the look of the video - but how can they not have sung harmony?

  • B E A U T I F U L!!!

  • John Prine is a legend.

    Nancy is his fancy.

    This is such beautiful song.....

  • I first heard this song by Kim Carnes and loved it then. However, I can't find the tape I had it on by Kim and since I love Nanci also...I will happily listen to this version. :)

  • Lawrence Rasmus (facebook Superstar)

  • John is amazing. Anytime he sings a duet, he & his partner have this look in their eyes like they are intimate partners in crime. This is a bit of an odd video, but a truly beautiful song. No, I still don't believe in G*D, but bless John Prine none the less.

  • How did they get John Prine to put on that ridiculous angel suit ? Great song though

  • @tfe423 I'm shaking my head and thinking the same thing. He's still in my top five songwriters, nothing'll change that.

  • @Faireweatherfriend who else is in your top 5?

  • @hazzle34 okay, I'm narrowing it down to top five songwriters who were part of the late sixties-early seventies movement and who wrote strong lyrics. John Prine, Jackson Browne, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Bob Dylan. Many, many others were worth a listen, I'm sure people will chime in. John Lennon could sneak in at number 6 (or maybe number 9), but he was not quite the poet that the top 5 are, IMHO. Loved him, though. Imagine should be The National Anthem. Again, IMHO.

  • @Faireweatherfriend Townes van Zandt was also great in late sixties - early seventies. There are still a few top writers today: James McMurtry, Guy Clark, John Gorka, Todd Snider, Steve Earle and Darden Smith.

  • What a blend of vices and lyrics. Does it get any better than this?

  • I like this tune, thanks Nanci and John...

  • Inspired. How can you not believe in God after hearing this?

  • A Prairie Home Companion on NPR on July 3 2010 featured this song. Duet by Garrison Keillor with a female.

  • sublime

  • Some of John Prine's songs make me laugh, while others- such as this one, make my eyes leak.

  • I miss my ex wife every time i play this.my life lesson , out there running just to be on the run is you can't out run yourself , and most times you cant go back

  • i am loving this song, i really dont know how i got into my 40"ties, and never was introduced to this beautiful music, i mean my god , he was handsome as all get out when he was young.......and he 's still not bad lol....just ty for giving me the pleasure of hearing this at a time in my life when im waiting on results....am i gonna live or die? i thank -you sincerley.........jennifer.l.Bell

  • @jessiebear69 The main pont is that you found John Prines' music. I'm now 50 and have been listening to him since I was 17. Fantastic artist.

  • How appropos, Nanci Griffith has a voice befitting an angel, and John Prine has written yet another masterpiece, together they are heavenly! Thanks You Tube!

  • in a way it remind me of Alan Jackson's The Bluesman.. Both this song and "the bluesman" are wonderfull songs..

  • Why does an angel need a wristwatch? Just wondering.

  • @alienhuman So they won't be late for another piece of YOU GOT IT: ANGELFOOD CAKE!

  • i love this song!

  • not bad for a former postperson

  • Song tears my heart up.......I was turned on to John Prine when I was 14 years old . 20 years, tons of cassette tapes, CDs and now MP3 files John Prine is played damn near everyday in my home or car.

  • Beautiful song. I love this song so much.

    Thank you for uploading!!

  • A great version of this lovely song. One of the best I've heard.

  • John Prine has written some divine songe, this sure is one of them. You know when they tore down the Berlin wall, on the east side of the wall, someone had braved the landmines and guards and sprayed on the wall: Thank God for John Prine

  • will tell that one down in the pub on friday.on the berlin wall whooooeeeeee!!!!!!

  • @opelpia I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. That means so much more than the picture of a dog pissing on "Clapton is god" in all those famous photos.

  • @opelpia speed of the soundof lonliness is original to a scottish group called alabama 3, this a cover and bland in contrast to the drinking druggin fuggin runnin psycho mood of the original; not saying JP shouldn't be on the wall but credit where it's due eh.

  • @DuddBudda, Please get it right! This song was from Nanci Griffith's 1993 album, "Other Voices, Other Rooms", Alabama 3's debut album was called "Exile On Coldharbour Lane" and was released in 1997, containing a cover of this song. Plus Alabama 3 are not Scottish, the band is English. I love the Alabama 3 version of this song, it's a great cover.

  • awesome

  • ITS SNOWING!!!!!!!!

  • magic song

  • i love this song and the words are lovely its king here

  • Star69xxx, put the volume on mute and take another look at the video. What do you see? ;-) I know it's a "heavenly" song. (chuckles) However, I wouldn't get carried away with a soppy video (angels?) that has no connection with the lyrics.

Having said that, please note that I'm a long time fan of John Prine and his songwriting. I think you feel the same way about him or you would not bother to "listen" to the video. :-)

  • I agree 100% Thanx for speaking for many!

  • look the video is so so nice and fits this song to perfection.
