my highschool choir is doing this ina few days for our spring concert and it sounds really good, these people are lucky though, they get to use their music,we have to remember the 26 pages of this song -_-
Mr. Guillaume, Pennsylvania Region 1 Choir just performed this for the Region festival, and it was beautiful and brilliant. This piece is fantastic, thank you so much.
My High School choir sang this my junior year. It was the most fun song I have ever performed, next to Saul. Great job. I wish I had a recording of our performance.
i had the privilage this past weekend of going to all state choir and michael jo schiebe (the USC director who is in this video) was our director. we got to sing this song and it was soo much fun!
I don't know, this isn't a German opera, it's supposed to be a Hatian song of brotherly love. I just don't think that this choir used the right style. Otherwise, yes, I think this is a good song.
Wow this is really good, I'm impressed. However I would've liked it better without folders, but it is long so yea. My chamber choir, Grandview singers is doing this and i'm really excited. but reallly good job :)
well, in my opinion, choir should be tightly engaged with the audience because every song we do might give a different message or story to every person. so memorizing should be mandatory for if you want to focus on the conducting or to engage with the audience with interesting faces instead of looking down at the folder.
Sure, it's definitely easier to convey the message. However, for example, my choir sang in Avery Fisher Hall in March of '09 and we sang the Hayden Theresienmesse, and that's quite a long piece with lots of solos in between. So that would have been hard to memorize. But a 2 minute 30 something minute piece, definitely, would probably benefit from being memorized.
@xMarix I completely disagree. When you memorize a piece, you get your face out of the music. It gives the choir the ability to communicate to a much greater effect. Most college choirs don't memorize their music, that's true, but when they do, it adds so much.

I'm from Mason City High School one of the best high school choirs in the country. We just got back from New York and dominated. I thought it was funny the USC choir didn't have it memorized, not that amazing we learned it one month before our trip and had it memorized.
Just because it's a High School choir does NOT meat they sound like High School students what-so-ever. That's like saying "Texas all state choir is made up of all High Schoolers so they sound like high schoolers" or any all state group for that fact. So you might not want to underestimate a HS choir.
Go Mr. Guillaume!

My brother had to learn the tenor part for this song.
I felt so sorry for him as a fellow singer! I could never keep up that rythm!

It's not a high school choir, nor does it sound like one.
Was the person who posted this in the choir? Or an audience member?

Um. Most college choirs don't memorize their pieces because they have a lot of them. Being memorized does not make the piece better.
