Safin's backhand up the line and Sampras' cool under pressure. Federer's cool under pressure too, but it's a whole 'nother level of cool when you are down match point and belt out 2nd serve aces without blinking.

I disagree. Safin has great power from the baseline, but thats about all he has that stands out. Federer's game is far more complete. Federer at the top of his game would run rings around safin.

Far from it... For Federer to be at the top of his game; he needs the kind of tennis that everybody else plays; baseline and three-quarter court. Safin with power will take away a lot from Federer. He has an amazing array of groundies; and good volleys. If Safin had no injuries and was mentally tough; he would have taken over from Sampras.
