That song reminds me when I was in mission, in French Guyana as a military, I had to make patrols in the amazonian jungle, scout to find some illegal gold trafics, The brazilian traficants had guns, so it was dangerous ....

Good memories !!! (sorry for my english I'm french)
This is raw, well-crafted and deep music that touches the mind and soul. Alice in Chains were (and still are) kings at their game. Alot of music these days just doesn't have that power, and sounds recycled or are just failed experiments (if any experimentation at all). I am 18, and unfortunately have to look back in time to find music like this. RIP Layne Staley.
Rock & Roll was getting progressively better & better, until the 90s when it climaxed in it's pants. Since then it hasn't quite been able to get it up again since. :/
@LexCluthor why's that dude? I always thought "dirt" refered to smack & this song was about the only track that wasn't about Heroin. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a smart ass & diss yr comments I just wondered what u meant
@dirlewanger42 I had no idea that the Album's name was refering to herion, merely saw it as a name (which i was rather blind of me considering the band, but sometimes it happens) and just thought of the irony of such a decent album being called "Dirt". I appreciate the knowledge though on the name of the album and the respect.

The 00's are pretty much the 80s all over again. In the 80's sampling was the 'cool' thing, but people went overboard with it and made shitty, repetitious music without any real instrumental talent on display.
In the 00's we have auto-tune and whatever genre (shit rock I guess, if you could even call it rock. Maybe we'll just call it plain 'shit'?) you call Kings of Leon. People will get tired of them and they'll get swept under the rug with the shitty 80's music.

@jackyDoofer music like this means as much to me now as it did when I was 15 in 93. The chavs and bullshit chart today underlines that. And add stone temple pilots to that list.

@david8287878787878 I think that the vietnam people didn't know what the american eagle was, and the airborn simble of the american forces was an eagle, but they called them "Roosters". So that's why the song says "they came to stop the rooster". But that's something I just read around the web. Seems pretty true to me.
I saw this band in Melbourne years ago..was funny the lead singer stuffed a verse, drummer got up, kicked his drum kit over and walked off. Before we knew it, lights came on..show was over. Was awhile ago, i'm 35 now. Was around 18-19 when i saw them. Great track.
badly rolled joints, scruffy clothes, long hair and just not giving a fuck, with the good music, like metallica in their prime, kurt and layne walkin' the top of the world, and hell, even the REAL guns n roses. THIS is why i wish i was old enough to lve properly in the 90's. not be born in '93, unable to understand the amazingness of whats going on around me, now we've got chavs and shitty drum n bass, its so unfair, i need a time machine.
@jackyDoofer This is very, very true. It was a hell of a lot better generally in the 90's and now we're in 2010 where we do have chavs and drum n' bass but also crap like the recession, the freedom of not having to be scared when walking into town. One of the only things I love about the 2000's is Guitar Hero and Rock Band where they capture music from even way back in the 1960's and let us enjoy that music in another way. Your comment is 100% true.
@lPsyckl ermm.. hang on. We had a massive recession in the early 90's. And rock band/guitar hero only encourage kids to not bother picking up a real guitar.
@alexandercominski Well, I guess so, sorry. >.< But also, that's true up until recently with the pro instuments in RB3 and the fact that you can use your real guitar in RB3 too. Hopefully, GH will follow the same path. :D
@jackyDoofer Dude, I grew up in the 90's and honestly we were spoiled with so much good music. I still listen to this stuff today and it brings back so many memories too.... i.e. badly rolled joints, scruffy clothes, long hair and just not giving a fuck :-) Its good to read that its still appreciated by some of the younger generation!
@sskubisnac No, they hadn't even got properly established until 1991 with The Black Album, that was their highest point in the career from 1989-1993. Now they suck, no offence but no Jason Newsted, Kirks' solos on DM aren't my thing, James vocals have gone and the drums are recorded too high, I know Lars made the band but I mean lower the volume a bit down and turn the bass up but i dont care as I've missed the good Metallica, same for AiC and GnR =(
Lets not confuse,"not giving a fu*k" the image with,"not giving a fu*k"the multi million dollar industry. You've named checked Metallica there.Well, theyre the very example of a band that turned their collective middle fingers up to the establishment from 1983 to 1988 to employing Bon Jovi producer Bob Rock to serenade the mainstream from 1991 onwards.Sell outs,I binned the first 4 Metallica albums because of this.True bands NEVER change their sound example:the mighty fuc*ing TESTAMENT.
@jackyDoofer Son, I can just tell you ,as a teenager back in the 90s that it was freakin great! Nice music, good times and fond memories!!! I wish to go back as well!!!
I know exactly how you feel. I was born in 91 and I really do think I was brought into the world way too late. All the best music was back then and we missed alot of it! I'm surrounded by people who think that lady gaga is a fucking artist! Bring back some pearl jam, tool and primus to life and show them all what there missing.
@jackyDoofer Man...I understand your feeling!! At the same time I feel happy to see somebody with 17 old who loves the bands form 90´s anda maybe 80´s. I was born in 72 and lived the golden 80´s & 90´s and all the good rock bands like Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam and other Hard Rock, Metal or Grunge bands. We need and your generation deserves to have the good music back. I know there´s a lot of good rock bands playing today, but the "media" and record labels for some reason don´t want it back.
@jackyDoofer it was the same as it is now, the 90's were quite cool, but remember we had just got out of the shit 80's (although the music was cool), people thought they could do their own thing and everything would work out, but world power issues and oil reserves end up fucking us all up, so praise to anyone that can sing a happy song right now, peace
@jackyDoofer Your parents just didnt raise you right. My son was born in 1991. He grew up on real bands like Metallica, Black Sabbath and AIC. Now he is 19 and he fucking rocks.
Damn I coulndt agree more... If it was not only to try to get in a band and write music and try to make a living of it (okay, you need to be lucky, but if you WANT it it was possible 20 years ago)... I dont give a fuck about the technology of today... I just need a proper guitar, amplifier and a boring apartment in a big american city.
@jackyDoofer I was approaching 20 at that time, and these bands changed my life forever. Besides chicks, listening to this awesome new wave of music, as well as playing and writing music (with guitar obviously) became the focal point of my life. But then the 9-5 thing stifled it for a long, long time. But I've recaptured that spirit with a vengeance over the last 6 mths or so & started appreciating it & writing again
@jackyDoofer Don’t get carried away with thinking you missed out on some kind of utopia. It was a good time with like-minded fans, a ‘movement’ of sorts, but nothing amazing like the 60s movement. Most peoples’ musical taste still sucked back then as it does today. You definitely don't need a time machine. You just need to appreciate the 90s ‘alternative’ genre, that’s all. Better still if you have like-minded friends.
@TheGusto69 Thanks, man! I made a massive list of potential names, then by process of painful elimination ended up with this one. Thanks for your appreciation. BTW, I absolutely love "Rooster" & AIC, now get back to your music appreciation ASAP!!
@TheEnemyIsIgnorance you are so right,,,,actually when this came out we were on the cusp of a really dull decade,,,,,,,,,twas a long time after this til I started buying music again.....
Nice sentiment but yeah, even though I'm an X-Gen, most the ppl around me didn't even recognise the music of our Time. I saw Alice,Chillies,Soundgarden,B-Boys,Suicidal (shit u get the point), even did my first stage dive at Nirvana but they weren't in big stadiums, at best small music halls.
The majority are always in the mainstream pop-culture, whilst the minority experience the future legends of their time.
& the "movement" of ur time comes by only once, so take it by the balls!
@jackyDoofer i know wot u mean im seventeen and all i ever see on music channels is rnb and pop music which is just a load of shit and if ur lucky ull see kings of leon or biffy cylro up there but nobody realy cares about good music anymore i love alternative music and i always will but when i show anyone any indie bands they just think shit and go back to there precious lady gaga or tinchy stryder and it pisses me off so much
everytime i work on night i wait for this song till 2 am on rock tv..and everytime i can only stay watch it cos evry war story is a life lesson story.
specially when its tell by an awesome guitar and a special group like alice in chains.
A 7 minute single, accompanied with a video, with no editing of the song, is unheard of in the present day. It just shows how the music industry has changed. A band like Alice in Chains, though, would still strive to release a song of this length, (aka Acid Bubble) because the meaning and the art is more important than a songs market potential.
@GasPanic08 But there's something people will never forget and is good music. I only thank my folks to be born in 75 and the 90's were my generation. I will be 70 and I will still listen to good music.
Layne Staley & Mike Starr reunited to play in Heaven - RIP.

THIS is why i wish i was old enough to lve properly in the 90's. not be born in '93, unable to understand the amazingness of whats going on around me, now we've got chavs and shitty drum n bass, its so unfair, i need a time machine.
jackyDoofer 1 year ago 107
@jackyDoofer This is very, very true. It was a hell of a lot better generally in the 90's and now we're in 2010 where we do have chavs and drum n' bass but also crap like the recession, the freedom of not having to be scared when walking into town. One of the only things I love about the 2000's is Guitar Hero and Rock Band where they capture music from even way back in the 1960's and let us enjoy that music in another way. Your comment is 100% true.
lPsyckl 1 year ago

@jackyDoofer Sorry buddy, Metallica were REALLY in their prime around '86 with Master.
sskubisnac 1 year ago
@sskubisnac No, they hadn't even got properly established until 1991 with The Black Album, that was their highest point in the career from 1989-1993. Now they suck, no offence but no Jason Newsted, Kirks' solos on DM aren't my thing, James vocals have gone and the drums are recorded too high, I know Lars made the band but I mean lower the volume a bit down and turn the bass up but i dont care as I've missed the good Metallica, same for AiC and GnR =(
Awayze 1 year ago
@jackyDoofer Yeh I was born in 1991 and the UK is run with asshole chavs and shitty DnB, ok some songs by Pendulum are ok but rest are crap.
Awayze 1 year ago
Lets not confuse,"not giving a fu*k" the image with,"not giving a fu*k"the multi million dollar industry. You've named checked Metallica there.Well, theyre the very example of a band that turned their collective middle fingers up to the establishment from 1983 to 1988 to employing Bon Jovi producer Bob Rock to serenade the mainstream from 1991 onwards.Sell outs,I binned the first 4 Metallica albums because of this.True bands NEVER change their sound example:the mighty fuc*ing TESTAMENT.

TheEnemyIsIgnorance 1 year ago
@jackyDoofer Don’t get carried away with thinking you missed out on some kind of utopia. It was a good time with like-minded fans, a ‘movement’ of sorts, but nothing amazing like the 60s movement. Most peoples’ musical taste still sucked back then as it does today. You definitely don't need a time machine. You just need to appreciate the 90s ‘alternative’ genre, that’s all. Better still if you have like-minded friends.
Cheers, Matt :D
