In a deal between Capcom and Atlus, Megami Tensei character designer Kazuma Kaneko did the designs for Dante's and Vergil's demonic forms in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. In turn, Atlus included Dante (as he appeared in Devil May Cry 2) as a character in an enhanced release of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne titled Maniax in Japan. The later English localization of Nocturne was based on this Maniax edition of the game.

Man, the first time I fought Dante he tore me a structurally superfluous new behind! Still, the mix of music and how fierce this fight can get really got me pumped, and I took him on again and beat him. I gotta give Atlus credit for this game being so EPIC.

Dante is easy, just get demons resistant to critical hits, a healer, and blow him the hell up. DONE! i used mamunofu and oni, and Senri (mana battery and healer)

I didn't get this far..dear god. I knew the inevitable clash with Dante would be rough, but killing one of your demons on his first damn turn? And that wasn't a low-level demon from the beginning of the game, either. Then one-shoting Nekomata..as if Nocturne wasn't tough enough, why the hell did they have to send in an ace like him? Doesn't help my nerves when he talks as if he wasn't going all out, either..

Just faced him today :P The first battle was rather unfortunate for me because I didn't have a Magatama with Physical resistance equipt. Ah the joy of facing bosses for the first ime, it's all a learning experience.

Just about killed him on my second attempt. Used Sukukaja on my party to raise hit and dodge. Lowered whatever stat of Dante I could in order for him to waste a turn with a Star.

In the end his Taunt gave me the extra strength I needed to pound him down, good times :)

Well I was so freaked out to find Dante in a Shin Megami Tensei Game, then that thought came to my mind

Well considering I lost to Thor in two turns because of two ziongas (which he was weak to) and an extra turn of critical to the face to my mc I decided to train till my nekomata and a monunofu mutated. So two levels later I had a lvl 30 Arahabaki with kickass vit and null physical and a lvl 27 Senri with awesome str and buffs and I managed to fuse a lvl 24 Kikuri-Him that healed for 100+... Plus my 28 MC is a mage so he could heal everyone for around 120 so I pretty much owned his sorry ass. XD

yea this dante was solely based on the dmc2 version of dante

even his costume

he has never worn that in another game since dmc2

rebellion debut in dmc2 but had no background story what so ever

and yea they were basically like hey we have a demon filled game, its the end of the world, why not throw dante in the mix

This is Dante circa DMC 2 because that was the most recent DMC when Nocturne was made. That's the reason.

Although really in the end that makes it possible to fit Dante's appearance here in DMC canon as well.

because rebellion was not named rebellion until the 3rd game, which is a prequel. also he's in this game because clover and the company that does shin megami tensei have little deals here and there.... look at the the devil trigger designs for dante and vergil in DMC 3 and how similar they are to shin megami tensei, and you'll see what i mean....

Rebellion made its debut in DMC 2. So i don't know what you're getting at about it being named in the 3rd game, Rebellion as always been named Rebellion. Clover didn't approve this, Capcom did. The designer to Shin Megami liked Dante so much he wanted him in this game, and he did, and in return Capcom wanted the deigner to design Dante's and Vergil's Devil Forms.

I thought he was pretty easy. I did focus with the main character and focus with Momonofu, then dropped his defense with a High Pixie. It took me surprisingly not long at all. I was indeed worried I would be demolished however.

However it's not an RPG: It's a puzzle action platformer. BUT.... It does have its small share of RPG elements.

@JonathanFerGold I played the Catherine Demo and thought it was pretty interesting. However I will wait for a price drop. I beat Persona 3 FES sometime back and it was incredible! I played through some of Persona 4 but it has yet to grab me the way 3 did. I also have Nocturne on it's way.
