Well it's just obvious to me!! And I think it's obvious to quite a lt of people when they watch Python movies.
The social comments in the series are perhaps a bit harder to grasp!
The sketch about The Piranha brothers is obviusly about how many times criminals are in an terrrible position right from birth, how unintelligent criminals can be, even if they are succesful and about the lameness of the police!
Well most of python sketches have social comment in them. Some are very obvious, some a little less! Don't you think the parrot sketch is about a salesman, who sales you crap and when you come back to complain, he tries to talk himself out of it, instead of giving you something better?! It's social comment, it happens in poor stores.
A good comment on faith, religion and personality cult. In the sketch Eric is basicaly mocking cristianity, budism and islam. In the first part he shows, how ridcioulus it is to blindly admire someone, like he would be a god, especially if he doesn't have anything to show and obviously Harry Fink has nothing to show, just like the Cristian God and the Bible and the church are all a bunch of fake and useless crap and you can get a good idea about that in the movie The meaning of life!
Perfect choice of music and hilarious contrast between the stern look and movements of that animated man. I especially love the part that begins at 2:16.
I'd be super surprised if I got a response, but does anyone know what song that is when Brian Islam and Brucey are breaking it down? This is definitely one of my favorite animations of Gilliam's.
I have no idea. In one of the Flying Circus "All the Words" books, it just says "Two animated men dance to jugband music." So that's all the information I've got. Probably just some old 78 Terry Gilliam had on hand or something.
The chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our four...no... amongst our weapons.... amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again.
@negligiblepond Ya! But Michael Palin does a great job too in some sketches. There's one where he's like "Wasn't she just great ladies and gentlemen? And she can run as fast as she can sing! Believe me because I would know!" Very smarmy!
Brian Islam and Brucie should have won Britain's Got Talent. They were robbed!

@Samoplant For what Python has to say about self-indulgent over-analysis of simple premises, see Gavin Milarrrrrrrrrrr.

Brian Islam and Lucy is one of my favorite Gilliam Animations from Monty Python...it's just so wacky and random, I love it.

I always thought he says Brian Islam and Brucey?
xyntax81 4 years ago 3
It might be, I just went with what it says in the description of the video.
Either way, it still rules.
