I love this song! This song is the quintessetial Trance song, loved it ever since I heard it back in 99. But this may make me sound like an idiot, but what is the stroy behind this? Is it Oakenfold's work? Is it Sasha? Is it Gus Gus? Is it just a huge collaboration?
The original version was performed by Gus Gus. This is the Sasha vs The Light remix of the Gus Gus song. Then Oakenfold put it on the Tranceport DJ CD. Oakenfold really has nothing to do with it... although he typically would get the credit for it because that's where most people have heard it.
This song belongs to gus gus, the original is not on youtube but it can be found on p2p. Sasha just remixed it by calling it the (sasha vs the light) sessions. there are various, search them
this song got me into writing techno on logic. my mates still have to slap me when i put noise gates on vocals like hes done here. the drop at 3.05 is pure bliss. i think this type of emotion is lost in alot of new music.
Am I the only one that notices that this is ripped straight from Oakenfold's Tranceport CD? There are mix-ins and mix-outs on here... You can hear the end of "Rendezvous" at the beginning of the video and "Someone" mixing in at the end.. Dope track though.
I found it! I remember spinning this a few times.... then i lost the vinyl. Most known unknown. Can you believe this was a B side for Ladyshave? Good times.
Like everyone else has said, an amazing track. I remember when this came out and how every DJ had to have this record as it was being played week after week after week. One of the many fantastic tunes to come out in that period.
This is still the most incredible track ever, its so spine tingly amazing and still sounds absolutely brilliant today, thank you for posting this, happy memories, what a seminal track !!!
lets not get caught up in labels and whether its prog beats, psy-trance, trance, its an AMAZING track - LOVE IT !!!!!!
Nice one wanker. You just cant stop labeling cant you? I can't handle being a typical EDM n00b? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? What genre is this song then if it isn't trance? You probably think Tiesto is a God and Ferry Corsten is the second coming of Christ. Piss off back to noddy land.
Someone doesn't know how to fucking read. I already mentioned originally that this is fucking progressive breaks you numbskull. Go back to listening to ABBA and Sugababes ya dumb cunt!
PePe240sx - You're a joker who's been winding loads of people up - LOL mate. This song was remixed by Sasha and Sasha has said he doesn't want to be pidgeholed into a strict genre. The material is between trance and breaks. You can't just say it's not trance because you don't want to be associated with trance music such as Tiesto, who I have to agree is a cheesy b*stard.
I'll agree with you that the original track Purple was a classic (the entire album Polydistorion is golden in terms of Electronica history). But what busts me up is that you have to pull your "street creds" as a "dj" and "electronic musician" in order to pad your argument. If you honestly think this remixed track is "meandering aimlessly", you need to unplug your 1200s and return your needles.
I'm not pulling anything to "pad" my argument. I was responding to your accusation of knowing "anything about remixing." It's true, I set a high standard for remixes, and I set it even higher for really unique songs. I think this could have been a lot better.

Wow, so the fact that there are at least a million people out there with bad taste is some sort of argument? As both a club and radio dj, I can honestly say that this song didn't need to be remixed. As an electronic musician, I can say that remixing should be more than adding a bland beat, and removing the progression of the song so that it just meanders aimlessly. Sorry, I think I know more about remixing than you.
Guess what I'm trying to say is that you're comparing apples to oranges. Purple from Polydistortion is part of a seemless art album.
This Purple remix is purely made for the dancefloor. Every track of every alblum GusGus has produced has at least 2-3 remixes by the industries best. Its an extreme form of flattery.
ummmmmmmmmmmm this is trance w/ elements of breakbeat etc. thrown in
BTW who cares! this track rocks my socks!!!!!!!!

This is breaks - the whole Northern Exposure East Coast edition is the preeminent breakbeat album.

Just to clarify this is a breakbeat, not a trance beat.

Agree mate. Why people have to be so pretentious with dance music I will never know.
mickeymusicstar 3 years ago
It doesn't necessarily need to have a 4/4 beat. This is Progressive/PsyTrance.
gorskiegangsta 3 years ago
Incorrect, this is progressive breaks, NOT trance.
PePe240sx 3 years ago
and progressive breaks is a subcategory of?..... TRANCE
gorskiegangsta 3 years ago
gorskiegangsta - it cannot be associated with psychedelic trance - that is something completely away from this.
mickeymusicstar 3 years ago
yeah, the more i come to think about it, it is not psy trance at all, but you cannot disagree that this is progressive breaks.
gorskiegangsta 3 years ago
You're probably right in saying it's prog breaks. The sound reminds me of most of the tracks on Renaissance 2: The Mix Collection by John Digweed.
mickeymusicstar 3 years ago
hardcore, i meant the song is tite not the genre

Utter rubbish. The worst sort of remix, where everything that was good is taken out, and replaced with the generic.
olav7 4 years ago
If you knew anything about remixing, you wouldn't have made such an adolescent comment.
This is the DEFINITIVE remix of purple and a million + club goers would back me up on this from a DECADE back.
