@117MrSmiley MARINE is right. IF you go to medical school (BIG IF) and manage to pass it, you WILL be an officer if you decide to join Army. If you go fresh out of college or high school w/o ROTC, you can enlist as medic. NOBODY , unless if ur stupid, go to medical school and go become a medic. If you want experience in college, i suggest medic in National Guard or Reserve and apply to medical school in college. GO TO COLLEGE. Don't go to West Point if you want to serve as medic.
@MARINE9839 im 16 going on 17. wanna go to medical school first then enlist and be a medic. but at the same time i wanna go to westpoint academy. problem is. im scared to tell my parents. my dad wants me to be a doctor and my whole family is planning on getting me to harvard or stanford. they have no idea that i want to go into the army
@MARINE9839 well, when im up high i think about the feeling of falling and my stomach turning. But im not that scared of hights, (as long as i have a parachute)
@117MrSmiley The question should be do I want to be a part of the greatest soldiers in the U.S. Army. You have to be Airborne to be in the Special Forces, Rangers, 82nd Abn Div, 173rd Abn Bde, and 4th Bde 25th Inf Div. There is a cliche that is part of Airborne legacy."If you are not scared, you're either a liar or you're crazy." I had acrophobia aerophobia, and motion sickness; however, it did not deter me from Airborne School or three years in the 82nd Abn Div. I still can't believe I did it.
101st is Historically 'Airborne', they still wear the airborne patch above the screaming eagle. However, in the new age, they are an Air Assault Unit, repelling from and sling loading helicopters.
The 82nd is still airborne, stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC.
I just got done with airborne school . It was fun but Alot of waiting around.. I actually got to jump out of 3 planes.. C130, C130f, and a C17.. It was awesome!
@rendstar22 airborne= jumping out of planes, air assult= fast roping from helo right?? is the 82 and 101st still airborne or air assult? cuz i know one of them went air assult
@FastEddie718 Yes. Airborne= parachuting. Air Assault = dismounting Helo's with repels and stuff. 82nd is still an Airborne division. 101st is a air Assault,
yes, its something you volunteer for. any soldier with any job (MOS) can apply and go to airborne school, you dont have to be combat arms. If you are assigned to an airborne unit you have to attend and graduate airborne school. you can also get a slot for airborne school by esuring its in your contract when you enlist. or if you are high speed in your unit you can apply and your superiors may allow you to go even if you are not par of an airborne unit. Its for high quality soldiers.
Air assault school is another high speed course, its two weeks but very physically demanding. you learn to rappel out of a helicopter, a lot of people get weeded out. Also google Sapper leader course. i dont know if you can attend right out of basic, but as you get better and move up in rank as a combat engineer you most likely will be offered to go if you are physically fit and motivated enough. Its a course that train selected combat engineers in leadership and specialized engineer tech.
In a sense, you're right. Because you can't EARN an Airborne tab. That tab is just part of different unit patches. So, there could be guys with airborne tabs on that have never gone to airborne school. The tab means nothing, except that that unit has airborne assests and capabilities.
yea we got the airborne engineer patch but its just our unit... alot of ppl goes up to us and ask if we're in airborne.. and we keep telling them thats just our unit
OMG I can't wait to go to airborne school. My Reserve unit is airborne so I will have to go eventually XD
