My hair's been natural all of my life, but I cut it five years ago and it still isn't as long as yours. Maybe cause its more tightly curled but still. JEALOUS.
Mae i have a big question... well im only fourteen in highschool so i have a very busy schedule. and i kinda need a style that i can use everyday.. my hair is pretty short because it broke and is damaged (i used to have extrremely long hair) it grows pretty fast too. i have a question why is all of a sudden it is not growing at all. and do u have any tips on helping it to grow and any hairstyles i can use :) sorry for making it so long :(
we have a lotta shea buter in nigeria. i just bought an extremely large jar of it and i am loving my transition. thanks for all the encouragement i get here
@melitimo Natural hair is HIGH maintenance! But she only put 3 things in her hair which isn't bad (I use about the same depending on the style). Also, since her hair is out and not braided/twisted up, she is going to need those oils and the moisture cause her hair will dry out quick and it will be so obvious.
OMGosh Nikki you have inspired me even more to embrace my natural hair. I have been in transition since Dec. 2009 and I was wondering how my hair will look on me. But I now know that I have to just experiment and flow with it, lol I'm cutting all my relaxer off very soon so I pray it all works out well!!!
I LOVE ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS BECAUSE OF THE DETAIL. NO OFFENSE TO OTHER YOUTUBERS BUT, I HAVE TROUBLE WITH JUST SAYIN WHAT YOU DO AND NOT SHOWING EACH STEP. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH AND I LOVE TARGET TOO:) SO YES I WILL BE THERE FIRST THING FRIDAY MORNING AFTER I DROP MY SON OFF TO SCHOOL. YOU ARE A SWEETHEART
@BlkCoffi I was going to get that but, now i think i will try the castor oil first..i am still searching for the ultimate method to style, moisturize and hold. good luck, i know it sucks spending money on hair products and finding something maybe even less costly but we live and learn right :))
@lifeofalady actually the Castor Oil 4 oz from Walgreens was like $6, the gel was $3. I just didnt want to resort to the gel for puffs or pony, but its cool I will find way to get rid of the gel.LOL
@BlkCoffi you are gonna laugh at me because i actually got both gel and oil hahahaha. i find that ( oh i love just for me gel with no alcohol on the tube :)) when i use both that my hair holds, it shiny and moisturized so your tip actually made me rethink my decision, beside why not buy both and save time and gas :)) thanks again mama.
@lifeofalady Cool, now you just gave me an idea on combining the 2 together that way I'm not wasting my money, bcuz I was gonna do a producttswap at my nexy Natural meetup this fall in Chicago. Thanks for the tip. damn it now I got to blow dry my hair for that damn puff, and just think I was doing so good being lazy just wearing a curly fro. Now I got to wash my hair again. LOL. Oh I will will not be buying that castor from Walgreens again $6 for 4oz, Whole Foods 16oz for $10. That sounds better
Thank you for this video...I'm 7 years natural (locs) and just gave my 5 1/2 year old her 1st afro puff and she really likes it so I wanted to see how I could take care of it and tame it a bit. So you don't ever comb the hair before you do that?? My daughter's puff was really tangled because I did it right after I took out her cornrolls... I may wash it and see how it turns out from there. Thanks again! Awesome video!!!
I think you used too much oil in your hair there...but good vid. I use tea tree, clove, and coconut oil for my hair. My hair is so frickin' long now I'm thinking about doing another BC!
This is a great tutorial. This is exactly what I have been looking for. You got right to the point. The music was very tasteful and you made sure it didn't drown out what you were saying. The camera was already adjusted and ready for you to make a video. I wish everyone else who is trying to share their wisdom could conduct themselves like this. Great job. :D
Fist bump* for your afro puff!!! Oh yea Coconut Oil is the best! that oil actually penetrates your hair and gives ultimate moisture!!!! I got some made just have to add it to some grease or i might just leave it the way it is!
I love castor oil, I am currently using black jamaican castor oil and I use it the same way starting with my edges first than my hair I love castor oil!! Your hair is so pretty!!
I'll say it again even though its been said quite a few times already...never thought to use it instead of gel but I will try it tomorrow! I love castor oil also... Great video!
cute style on you. never thought to use castor oil on edges instead of gel. my hair doesn't like gel so maybe i'll see what results i get with the castor oil. thanks. great simple instructional video.
:) yayay for first puff!! I have the same EXACT castor oil. I used it on my face to help with oily skin! youtube oil cleansing method if u have a problem w/ oily skin/acne---does wonders!!
I can't wait to try it on my hair now! awesome video :)
Hi Mae this is TraceyJoy76 from twitter, nice video. Castor oil is the best for my hair I have found. So glad you love it as much as I do. Organic Coconut oil is also a staple in my hair care products. Never would have though to use the Castor in place of gel, love that idea. Now I'm going to have to wear a puff myself now, lol. Nice video, very informative, clear directions, easy to follow instructions. I like the music in the background = )
this question is for mae or anybody who knows the answer how long can you wear the head bands w/o them giving you a head ache? cause i have a huge head and am concerned as to whether i could go all day in one. well it's bigger than most people i know.
i am the same way... i think its because your skin produces too much oil... so when you add more oil it gets in the base of your skin and causes bumps... i hate it too...
very nicely done...really like it ....and i looooove black castor oil -- i hear it does the same as the clear/yellow but im a big castor oil fan..the haitian and jamaican versions are out of this world! do you have a fotki account?
hey first to say love your hair but where did u get the castor oil and denman brush from??

Can't you just comb your hair a little and put the headband on? It seems like a lot of trouble to put all that stuff into your hair.
